This is the duet Novel, the second book to The Name of Red. in the Red series. Don’t forget to scroll up and purchase the book! The sequel can be read without reading the first book, but it’s recommended to read the first book. This would mark Kabir’s story complete.

The Weight on Skin continues Beena Khan’s Red series. I really enjoyed the first book, The Name of Red, and this one does not disappoint I would definitely recommend to read this series in order.
Beena Khan’s talent really shines through in The Weight on Skin. I loved getting to know Kabin and see how he deals with tragedy. I read the whole book in a few hours.
The Weight on Skin gets a five plus stars from me. I loved it. I look forward to reading the third installment of the Red series, Color Me Red.
I received this book from the author, but was not required to write a review. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
Brilliant book well written and a great cast of characters loved this book. A wonderful gripping story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It was filled with heartbreaking and emotional scenes. The second book has some taboo subjects such as bullying, toxic relationships, self harm, BDSM. This book is more serious, dark. The time and effort that the author put into this is story is really good and the characters were developed equally great. I felt so many different emotions while reading the story from anguish to tears and smiles. I’m glad in the end he was able to get his happily ever after.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review
Beena Khan continues Red and Kabir’s tale in The Weight on Skin.
Using a skillful mix of the past and present, Khan weaves the tale of Kabir’s teenager/young adult years, showing us how he met Wafa and how he and Nadia were as younger people. Throughout the tale, we watch Kabir grieve and heal, letting go of one love and allowing another to come into his life.
Touching on topics that we all can relate to including bullying, harmful habits, and dealing with loss, The Weight on Skin is a poignant novel that hits hard right where it hurts.
I truly loved every minute of this. Small details aside, this story was wonderful, and I’m looking forward to reading more by Benna Khan.
Beena Khan, ‘The Weight on Skin’.
“Breathe, Kabir, Breathe”.
As a reviewer I received a free copy of this book and promised an honest comment. Here it is.
Rating: 3,5 (of 5 stars).
In general: Grieving and regaining interest in life.
Since a long time I considered Milan Kundera’s “The Unbearable Lightness of Being” (great novel!) one of the most intriguing book titles I knew. The title “The Weight on Skin” falls almost in the same category.
Unfortunately, for me, the content of the book does not have the same quality. I’m not a fan of fantasy and ‘The Weight on Skin’ contains some of these fantasy aspects.
The novel is a stand alone and sequel to ‘The Name of Red’, Beena Khan’s first book. I was glad to have read book 1 before I started ‘The Weight on Skin’. The author meticulously builts her plot, like a puzzle. And for this reader solving that puzzle would have been a lot more difficult without the knowledge of book 1.
The main characters:
– Kabir.
He has a Pakistani background and came to the States as a kid. He studied Medicine in New York. But left his medical profession after he lost a patient when he made a mistake. He then becomes the owner of the bar/restaurant which his girlfriend ‘Red’ visited in the months before she died. After her death he sold the bar and bought a second restaurant.
– Nadia.
She’s the sister of Samar, one of Kabir’s best friends. For years she had a crush on Kabir and was devastated when Kabir fell in love with her girlfriend Wafa and – thereafter – with the dying ‘Red’. After Kabir’s second relationship she never wants to meet him again. Now she’s a respected Neurochirurg.
Beena Khan describes how Kabir – after Red’s death – step by step regains interest in life again. After Red’s demise Kabir found her moving farewell letter, which – among others – contained a 12 points ‘to-do- list’ for him. Some of these points were ‘find closure with Wafa’, (who left him at their wedding-day after a 12 year long relationship) and another point was ‘court Nadia’, (the soulmate from his youth who never wanted to speak to him again after he fell in love with Red).
Red’s ghost(?) or hallucination(?) assists Kabir in fulfilling the points of the ‘to-do-list’ and learning to overcome his grief.
A beautiful, moving story, but – as I said before – the role of Red in it was too much fantasy to make the plot credible for me.

This book can be read even if you haven’t read the first book. This is Kabir’s story after Red. The ending of book 1 is very emotional and now Kabir is finding a way to go on with his life, if not to enjoy, then just to live. Red left with a list for Kabir and Kabir’s love for her makes him want to finish the list.
The storyline, the emotions, the constant push and pull in his mind and his heartache all makes this a great read. Kabir grows into himself now, he becomes the man he suppressed himself from being, he’s now stronger (emotionally and mentally), he’s brave and he has allowed himself to feel.
Yes, Kabir and Red had the epic love, the one that we can never forget but the one that wasn’t meant to be together. Red and Kabir were meant to fall in love for their own growth and acceptance.
And as before, the epilogue, ugh the epilogue is just amazing. It brought tears because of the letter!! ()
This is a well written book with strong, well developed characters and a heartbreaking story line. The author does a fantastic job bringing out all the emotions flowing throughout and had me captivated from start to finish reading. This is a much more serious story than the first book dealing with Kabir’s unhappiness and loss. The author brings her story to life with her descriptive and detailed writing and moves the story fluidly ,delivering another wonderful read. Highly recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
4 stars for The Weight of Skin by Beena Khan. This is book two in the Red Series duet. Kabir just cannot seem to move on from the woman he loves. He still loves Red and cannot get over her. In this book we got a different side of Kabir. He is now a big playboy and cannot get away from his past. Nadia is back. Uh Oh. “Hope, Kabir. Hope gives you the courage to move on.” I know this might be a different opinion from some, but I was excited for Nadia to be back. She deserves something great. Nadia is back to deal with her feelings for Kabir and what he did to her in the last book. I was emotional while reading and could not wait to see what happened between these two. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and Nadia and Kabir.
