One night. That’s all we had. That’s all it took. I woke up the next day with his phone number smeared and illegible. When I couldn’t find him, I tried to forget. But in that one night, he’d crawled so far under my skin,I couldn’t erase him. Then, he walks back into my life where I least expect him: my job. He’s just like I remember, except for one detail. He goes by a different name.
Beautiful! Captivating! Inspiring!
When I say that I loved Lo & King…I mean it! I loved everything about these two! But man, Mercedes stole my heart from the first meeting! I could just look straight through every bit of her anger and see the kind of pain that is so unfair for a child that age to know that early in life. But the most magical thing was Lo with Mercedes! Who she became to her! This wasn’t just a love story but a story of growth. Not just the growth of the hero and heroine, but the growth that exists because a single person that comes into a family and the effects of her care and love ripples along each member healing little pieces along the way.
One main reason I adored this book so much is because rather than being filled with stupid drama (which no judgment because at times I enjoy reading that, lol!!). It is instead filled with hardships and the scars left behind, stolen moments and the aftermath of losing the people that make those moments worthwhile, hard choices that should be simple to make but know that both options could alter your life in unimaginable ways, learning what the most important things in life are to you and the most valuable lesson being that family isn’t always what you are born with but instead who you choose to make it! Any of you who have read this and any who might read it after me might not feel the same way about this book and that is okay.
This is a complete standalone, but if you enjoy this world…know that The Effects of Falling is book 2 in the same world just a different couple. I’m headed off to read that one now!
This is a beautiful story about feelings – there´s lots of love, but there´s also friendship, loss, thankfulness, regret… The way the author – Mariah Dietz – describes either the good or bad feelings the characters have is so dense that it does touch you and makes you relate to situations you once lived. It´s a love story almost made like poetry. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and will certainly keep on reading the series.
I downloaded a free copy of this book from Amazon and this is my unbiased review.
This book is so full of feels, that you are transported into living the book instead of just reading it. Mariah has a way of making you a part of the story, not just reading it but living and breathing it. Every book written by Mariah gets better and better and the Weight of Rain is her finest work yet.
Lauren is a bit of a loner. With only a few friends, she gets lost in her world of art. Taking in every aspect of the world around her. There seems to be one person she just can’t get out of her mind. He’s a mystery. An enigma. Yet she can remember the plains of his body, the curve of his lips, the scars that riddle his body. She just doesn’t know who he is. After months of trying to remember, asking anyone who may know who this guy is…she gives up. That is until he literally walks back into her life one day, sending her world is a spin. She doesn’t know whether to be giddy with joy that he’s back in her life, or want to stab the arrogant asshole who seems to take joy in teasing her about their one night. Turns out to be the night that neither of them can forget.
Crossed paths and miscommunication brought them to where they are now. But can either of them walk away?
The book paints the story in vivid detail, but not in a way that is too wordy or overdone. You know their thoughts, their fears, their hopes. Getting drawn in, turning page after page, needing to know more.
Secondary characters take a piece of your heart along with Lauren and King and you care for the entire group as a whole.
This book is definitely in my top 5 for 2015 and Mariah is a contender that I hope more and more people discover – a true diamond in the rough
From beginning until end, I really enjoyed reading this story. It was beautifully written but the story had a real depth to it. It was a story I haven’t read in a while. Loved the romance between Lauren and King, I want a King for myself 🙂 The real thing about this story and what we need to remember is that we can never let anyone take our dreams away! That its you who makes your future. No one can make our lives for us and people who stand by our side are the ones who truly care for us. Family isn’t always blood! I highly recommend this book.
Poor writing, endlessly repetitive and boring, unbelievably poor editing. I really tried but had to give up halfway through. Very disappointed.
Nothing. I did just could not get into. Read first 5 pages and quit.
Great book!
Hard to get started.
It was good but the main characters were a little tiresome with their back and forth with each other. The other characters were good around the story.
Fast read.
Finally new subject matter. Not the same old plot we read book after book. Great easy flow that held my interest.
Very good read.
I wanted more! I was not ready for the end of this book I wanted it to keep going! Very good read
