Some people stay all summer long on the idyllic island of Belle Isle, North Carolina. Others come only for the weekends-and the mix between the regulars and “the weekenders” can sometimes make the sparks fly. Riley Griggs has a season of good times with friends and family ahead of her on Belle Isle when things take an unexpected turn. While waiting for her husband to arrive on the ferry one … Friday afternoon, Riley is confronted by a process server who thrusts papers into her hand. And her husband is nowhere to be found.
So she turns to her island friends for help and support, but it turns out that each of them has their own secrets, and the clock is ticking as the mystery deepens…in a murderous way. Cocktail parties aside, Riley must find a way to investigate the secrets of Belle Island, the husband she might not really know, and the summer that could change everything.
Told with Mary Kay Andrews’ trademark blend of humor and warmth, and with characters and a setting that you can’t help but fall for, the New York Times bestseller The Weekenders is the perfect summer escape.

Enjoyable romantic modern novel
Enjoyed the back and forth. Not a real deep book but enjoyable
Read this when it first arrived on the book shelves. Very enjoyable since I like murder mysteries and this one is highly enjoyable! Mary Kay Andrews is an author I enjoy reading. Have even read under her other name if Kathy Hogan Trocheck . Trust me you cannot go wrong with this one!
Mary Kay Andrews’ books are always a fun read! Since I live in a beach town with lots of visitors, I could relate to the characters that are “locals”. Made me want to visit there.
Loved it!
A good summer read.
The Weekenders was an okay read. Lots of stuff going on and you are left wondering who dunnit…all the way until the end of the book. But I have to say that the main character’s daughter was irritating as snot! She was so over the top snooty and disrespectful. I know her mom was concerned because she had been diagnosed with Type I diabetes, but she was allowed too much freedom.
I have to say that I love the books Mary Kay Andrews writes that have a little more humor thrown in. that was not the case with this book. This story was about the well-to-do and their obnoxious whining. It’s a good thing I have read other books by Ms. Andrews or this might be my last one. I will give her another chance, but not too many more!
One of my favorite authors.
This was an easy read. I didn’t want put it down!
It’s a great light beach-type book 🙂
I have several books by this author and they all have been good quick reads. She puts in romance, mystery and her characters are life like which makes the book a page turner. You can never go wrong with a Mary Kay Andrews book.
Loved the book! I have read all her books and they never fail to entertain!
Loved the characters
super easy read & hilarious! I would consider this a chick flick! loved it!
Enjoyable beach resd!
Quick read, beach tempo, good.
I enjoyed this book very much. Good mystery buildup.
Always enjoy Mary Kay Andrews books. Little twists and turns
I love all her books and this is no exception!! Very vivid characters and great locales.
In the category of an easy read I give the Weekenders 5 stars. It is just the read you want when you do no want to read a tear jerker or anything to complicated. The Weekenders is a good summer read with a few unexpected twists. The characters were interesting folk, and most but not all of the outcome was predictable.
