The first in a series of Discworld novels starring the young witch Tiffany Aching.
A nightmarish danger threatens from the other side of reality…
Armed with only a frying pan and her common sense, young witch-to-be Tiffany Aching must defend her home against the monsters of Fairyland. Luckily she has some very unusual help: the local Nac Mac Feegle — aka the Wee Free Men — a clan of fierce, … clan of fierce, sheep-stealing, sword-wielding, six-inch-high blue men.
Together they must face headless horsemen, ferocious grimhounds, terrifying dreams come true, and ultimately the sinister Queen of the Elves herself…

This fantasy contains 2 mysteries: What happened to wannabe witch Tiffany’s five-year-old brother? Where is the Baron’s twelve-year-old son? The “thriller” elements stem from the slapstick efforts by the Nac Mac Feegle (Wee Free Men) to save Tiffany–from what she doesn’t know about Fairyland, from her somewhat limited magical powers and from the …
If you like Harry Potter, I’d say you need to read the Tiffany Aching books.
Yes they’re a fantasy series set in a very different world, where magic is real, but the thing that’s really important about being true witch in that world, is something any person can do in this world.
You don’t just have to wish you’d one day get your invitation, …
Hilarious and imaginative!
I only recently discovered the Disc World series, starting with the witches, and the Tiffany Aching books are wonderful. This is the first in her adventures, and it’s a whimsical delight.
Wonderful book for adults as well as kids!
Hilarious! One of Pratchett’s finest with brand new characters ans species. And a very young witch with a lot of talent. Superb!
This may be the best Pratchett book in the series–and that is saying a lot! If you are looking for where to start reading about the Discworld, this is the place to start. It is both funny and insighful. I have recommended this book for anyone who loves fantasy or who wants to understand the Discwordl.
The witches are my fave of the Discworld series (just pipping the Watch) and Tiffany is the next generation of the witches. Pratchett is always good and Tiffany is just a great girl character!
It’s Terry Pratchett, no more need be said.
CRIVENS! What’s not to like about Terry Pratchett or young girl discovering her witch powers? Nothing. But throw in a bunch of hyperactive, Pictsies(who are six inch tall, blue-skinned, caricatures of Scotsmen) and you’ve got a priceless piece of fun and excitement.
Mr. Pratchett’s efforts to branch out his popular Discworld series into the arena …
Terry Pratchett has a way to turn serious subjects into fun stories but still full of common sense. It is a delight to be in a fantasy world and still so close to our earthy life. It can be read by a young crowd and still be such entertaining for adults. I will read it with my daughter when she is old enough to appreciate chapter books.
Terry Pratchett. What more needs to be said. If you love Pratchett you will love this. If this is the first Pratchett book you are reading, you will be entranced for the rest of your life.
What’s not to love, it’s Terry Pratchett
I’d give this book 10 stars if I could. The Wee Free men in the Disc world series by Terry Pratchett are probably my favorite characters. That’s saying a lot because I simply adore the Disc World series. It’s probably my favorite series of all time. I love Terry Pratchett’s writing style, humor, and parody. The world building and characters …
The Wee Free Men will never be forgotten by anyone who reads this book. Funny!
All of the Disc novels are priceless and Wee Free Men is no exception. I highly recommend any of them. A romp with Terry Pratchett through the wilds of Disc is always enjoyable.
It’s part of the Discworld series, so of course it’s awesome. The only reason it’s not five stars is because it isn’t quite as awesome as some of the rest of the books.
I’m not entirely clear if this actually takes place ON the Discworld world or on a different world that is somehow connected (through magic),
I didn’t realize this was a YA book …
The first of the Tiffany novels and a good start to a great series.
