Four brides. One Dress.
A tale of faith, redemption, and timeless love
Charlotte owns a chic Birmingham bridal boutique. Dressing brides for their big day is her gift… and her passion. But with her own wedding day approaching, why can’t she find the perfect dress or feel certain she should marry Tim?
Then Charlotte discovers a … find the perfect dress or feel certain she should marry Tim?
Then Charlotte discovers a vintage dress in a battered trunk at an estate sale. It looks brand-new, shimmering with pearls and satin, hand-stitched and timeless in its design. But where did it come from? Who wore it? Who welded the lock shut and tucked the dog tags in that little sachet? Who left it in the basement for a ten-year-old girl? And what about the mysterious man in the purple vest who insists the dress had been redeemed.
Charlotte’s search for the gown’s history, and its new bride, begins as a distraction from her sputtering love life. But it takes on a life of its own as she comes to know the women who have worn the dress. Emily from 1912. Mary Grace from 1939. Hillary from 1968. Each with her own story of promise, pain, and destiny. And each with something unique to share. For woven within the threads of the beautiful hundred-year-old gown is the truth about Charlotte’s heritage, the power of courage and faith, and the timeless beauty of finding true love.
“The story of four loveable women, miraculously bound by one gown, whose lives span a century . . . will take your breath away.” —Beth Webb Hart, bestselling author of Love, Charleston

Four women and one dress with a well-done storyline. Initially the book started out almost too slow but Oh! My! it was worth getting into. The author has brought us a well-done book about faith and love. This is my first book by Rachel Hauck but not my last. Thank you Ms. Hauck.
The Wedding Dress is a book I’ve shared with friends many times, purchasing multiple copies. Rachel Hauck handles the multiple time periods effortlessly, and I came to care about each of the main characters. The wedding dress was a wonderful symbol of faith and from the opening sentence, I enjoyed Hauck’s lyrical writing voice.
This book is such a treat! Give you a boost of hope, happiness and love. It’s part mystery and part finding new nuisances of oneself. Your outlook will become more and help heal your heart of any wounds.
Charlotte is the owner of a successful bridal shop in Birmingham, Alabama. She loves helping brides find just the right dress – although it’s been more difficult for her to find HER dress for her upcoming wedding. When Charlotte discovers an old – but perfectly preserved – wedding dress in an antique trunk, she sets off to discover who the dress …
A book about a wedding dress and the three women who wear it. It is not only about the dress but how these women come to know their family. The wedding dress has another meaning and it is how Christ can comes to fit us all no matter the size.
My opinion: this book has potential but needs good editorial assistance. The writing is immature, the characters lack depth, but the story has potential. Would love to see a rewrite with a good editor.
I always enjoy learning something as I read a good storyline. This book was entertaining, good characters, inspirational, and presented a realistic picture of life in the deep south after slavery was abolished.
This is the kind of book that stays with you when you put it down. While I didn’t love the references to charismatic Christianity (speaking in tongues, healings, etc.), they didn’t take up much of the story and were only mentioned in passing.
I was engrossed in this dual-timeline multi-generational story. The inspirational aspect and theme of …
Great book
Rachel definitely has a new fan in me. I finished Sweet Caroline not long ago and this one recently, and I just ordered another of hers.
This split-era romance definitely delivers. Intriguing plot, charming characters, feel-good endings for both stories–it’s all there. Another Highly Recommended Rachel Hauk novel!
A fascinating story covering several time periods of women who wore a wedding dress. With the exception of the ‘purple man’, this was a great inspirational story. In the present time Charlotte, a bridal store owner,, finds the wedding dress in a trunk she bids on at an auction. She is questioning her upcoming marriage and the trunk proves to be a …
What is it about a wedding that turns even the most unsentimental heart to mush? Or that transforms an ordinary man and woman in a tux and white gown into emissaries of True Love Always? Maybe it’s the rich biblical symbolism that makes us swoon over bride and groom—because God so often uses the wedding metaphor to describe how He woos us. (“As a …
There were several twists and turns and that made for fun reading.
I enjoy the characters and the story.
This was a delightful read. I enjoyed the historical aspect regarding racism that connected in a very real way to present day. The female protagonists of the historical story and present day story are spunky fun—full of conviction, but honest about their own feelings. Rachel Hauck is a wonderful writer.
This is the only book I’ve read from Rachel Hauck. And it was wonderful. I loved the whole story. I can’t wait to read more from her.
I was hoping for more spiritual depth and less magical realism in this book (purple man/Mr. Oddfellow). A couple of other issues: (1) Dirt bikes weigh 500 pounds? I think it’s a little over half that. Just google it. (2) Mary Grace & Thomas married 72 or 74 years? I don’t think 2 years transpired from the date Charlotte met them to the end of the …
Rachel Hauke’s, The Wedding Dress, is a romantic take on an ever-popular trope. With a surprising spiritual element, this story takes the heroine on a healing journey as she finds her true self. Loved it!
After reading over 100 pages in three different books and setting each aside, The Wedding Dress sucked me in. Everything about it was beautiful from the bit of magical realism to the rich detail in the lovely backdrop of Birmingham. I loved the idea of one mysterious dress that fits each of four women as if it was made for each of them, but with a …
I loved this book! Wish I had read it sooner. You will not be disappointed!
