I can’t believe I have to go home to Nebraska for my sister’s wedding. I’m gonna need a wingman and a whole lot of vodka for this level of family interaction. At least my bestie agreed he’d man up and help. Too bad he had to catch a different flight than me. Then his plane got delayed. And finally–because bad things always happen in threes–instead of my best friend, his evil twin strolls out of … of the airport.
If you looked up doesn’t-deserve-to-be-that-confident, way-too-hot-for-his-own-good billionaire in the dictionary, you’d find a picture of Will Holt. He’s awful. Horrible. The worst–even if his butt looks phenomenal in those jeans.
Ten times worse? My buffer was supposed to be there to keep me away from the million and one family events. But Satan’s spawn just grins and signs us up for every. Single. Thing.
Fine. “Cutthroat” Scrabble? I’m in. I can’t wait to take this guy down a notch.
But somewhere between Pictionary and the teasing glint in his eyes, our bickering starts to feel like more than just a game…

While I don’t always like the a$$hole romantic hero, Will Holt’s attitude is somewhat understandable.
There were times I felt he just needed to man-up and talk to Hadley or his brother to learn the truth but I kind of understood his hesitancy. What I didn’t understand is Hadley, a lovely, intelligent woman who was willing to let some guy treat her badly and she still wanted him. Yes, he had a few redeeming moments but they were few and after she was already enthralled. I’m just not sure I agreed with her allowing him to keep coming back to her bed after constantly thinking she was a gold digger. This just didn’t quiet fit who I thought Hadley was from her other relationships. She isn’t weak. She’s not so lonely she’d put up with bad treatment, so why wouldn’t she simply tell him to get lost.
There were some wonderful parts of this story, namely Hadley’s family. Pa-Paw and her stepfather, were better romantic heroes that Will Holt.
I gave this book a four because it was a good story, it just wasn’t a great love story.
Fresh, sexy, and laugh-out-loud funny, The Wedding Date Disaster is the best sort of fun. This is the sort of book you can read all in one sitting and enjoy every second. It’s the perfect escape!
If you like a good rom-com, this is not only good one but a great one! Loved the banter and the one liners that Avery Flynn delivers so well. Can we talk about the chemistry and the flirts? YEEESS!?!? (I’ll wait while you one click and read.)
I immediately rooted for Hadley. Her family in Nebraska is the best! I could see a series from the characters in her family and home town. I may not have moved to the big city from my small town but I totally get her motivation.
I could easily see how Hadley had the pull of emotions – I mean come on, evil twin after all. .
I love the way Avery can write a hero that you want to dislike because he is jerkish. However you can’t because he’s not completely a bad guy. Since she has a way of showing his softer side you fall for him. I loved how Will is set out to protect the family.
Promise you will not regret this purchase!!
Wii Holt is a putz !
But despite that fact I really enjoyed this book. Avery Flynn never lets me down.
She brings more steam than usual, but that is OK. I love her writing style.

I feel so at home reading a rom-com by Avery Flynn. She has a fluid storytelling that speaks to me on so many levels.
I started out with some mixed feelings about this book but by the end, I ended up really liking it. The thing that had my feelings out of whack for this book at the start was that the characters felt a little one-dimensional to me and their romance didn’t really feel all that convincing through most of the story. What I learned is that those things were just really slow-moving. So I suppose it’s the pace of the story that had me teetering on how many stars to rate this book. Ultimately, I had a smile on my face at the close of the story.
Will and Hadley actually had some really nice character development once the story picked up a bit. It was easy to get into their heads and get to know them as the story progressed. I totally adored all of the secondary characters. Hadley’s family was the absolute best. Her grandfather kept putting a smile on my face. I would be so overjoyed to see some of these side characters star in their own books by Avery Flynn.
The romance between Will and Hadley wasn’t totally convincing at first but they certainly had chemistry. I think that their romance just lacked a little oomph for me. I can’t really place my finger on it but I didn’t feel as connected to their romance as I normally do when I read an Avery Flynn book. Though I have to say, even though I wasn’t as into it throughout most of the story, I was really convinced by the end. I loved how the two of them came together and the epilogue was so charming.
Overall, this was such an amusing story with very relatable characters and an interesting plot. If you enjoy enemies-to-lovers stories with a lot of sass and excellent storytelling then pick this one up!

Do you want the good news or bad news first?
I always pick the bad so here we go.
I listened to this on audio and the narrator reads for both the H and h so that threw me because at some points it was difficult to remember who was speaking.
There was a lot of repetition from Will. I’m not sure how many more times I could listen to him whine about her being a gold digger. It got very annoying.
There wasn’t a lot of connection between the two. It took until almost the end of the book for me to like them together. I wanted to smack them both.
I do like a fake relationship, enemies to lovers book so check on this story. I also liked the secondary characters. They were fun and helped this story a lot.
This was a solid 2.5, would have been a 3.5 if there were two narrators.
2.5 stars
I cannot recall all the different reviews I read about this book last fall, but it seemed to be pretty popular when it came out. This is a new-to-me author, but the premise seemed right up my alley. I love a fake boyfriend story. Throw in some forced proximity and enemies to lovers and it seems like the perfect story. It’s quite possible I set my hopes too high with all of those amazing tropes. While I enjoyed this story for the most part, there were quite a few things that either fell flat or just rubbed me the wrong way.
First, let me say that I just discovered this is actually part of a series. Which I did not pick up on at all while I was reading. I may be wrong, but I have a feeling this isn’t a series in the sense of seeing the characters show up in each other’s books very often. More of a series about people who live in a certain place, Harbor City. That was the first thing that bugged me. It’s quite obvious, at least in this story, that Harbor City is New York City. It really made me wonder why the author didn’t just use NYC? Luckily, they didn’t spend a lot of time there. But it was still mentioned enough that it always took me out of the narrative when the city was mentioned. I’m fine with fictional cities and towns, it’s that this was so obviously New York it would stand out to me each time.
Hadley actually had me on the hook from the start. I really enjoyed the first chapter immensely. The author did a fantastic job of pulling me into the story. The sparks between Hadley and Will were flying everywhere and the situation was a perfect set up for the rest of this story. That’s why this book got confusing for me. Not the storyline. But how at times I was fully immersed and engaged, and other times I was pulled out and often had to scratch my head.
There is no denying that the scenes where Will and Hadley are connecting, be it to argue or to tease or to give into their emotions, are on point. These two have a beautiful connection and just don’t want to admit their feelings. But when it comes to their families and their thoughts and discussions and actions, that’s where things tend to fall apart.
It is expressly stated in the first few chapters that Will’s grandmother died and left him and his twin as the only people left in their rich family. The heirs to a fortune. Yet there are many, many other times later in the story where Will references his grandmother who seems to be alive and well. That is just not something that is easy to ignore, especially for someone who is a stickler for details like I am. How has nobody caught this issue and fixed it?
I said earlier that I really like Hadley. And I did (do?). But the way she acted toward her sister once she got back to Nebraska for her wedding just didn’t fit her personality. So maybe it’s not that I stopped liking Hadley, but I didn’t feel the author was being true to the character. After all, Hadley went home for a full week to “help with the wedding”, yet didn’t seem to be doing anything to help. Or even having a heart to heart with her sister, who was obviously conflicted about her upcoming wedding. It didn’t make sense that Hadley, who I found to be kind and compassionate, wouldn’t be overly concerned about her sister’s obvious distress.
That all being said, I know this sounds like quite a negative review. Yet, like I’ve mentioned, this story kept reeling me back in. It was like there would be two or three chapters where I was all in, then something out of character or that didn’t fit the narrative would happen and pull me out of the story. Very annoying.
I’ll probably give this author another chance, though. There was more positive than negative and I’m generally one to give an author a few tries, especially when I can see the potential.
Avery Flynn has done it again with her wonderful, snarky, and funny book, The Wedding Date Disaster, an enemies to lovers, fake-boyfriend story. Hadley Donavan is struggling to make it as an event planner for charities in the big city, has no time to date, has to go home to the family farm in Nebraska for her sister’s wedding. Needing a plus-one and someone to keep her sane amongst all the family interaction, her bestie agreed to man-up and help her; taking a different flight than her. Instead of her best friend, his evil, identical twin walks into baggage claim. Will Holt is way too confident and way too good looking for his own good, this billionaire is suspicious of Hadley and her friendship with his brother; never hiding that fact. Instead of keeping her away from all of the family events, Will signs the up and grins at her; happy to torture her. Hadley doesn’t understand how there can be so much chemistry with this guy, and not his twin. Soon their bickering and teasing starts to feel like more than just a game, and Hadley’s family is all in, supporting their relationship.
Ms. Flynn wrote a wonderful and hysterical story that was moving and filled with sizzling chemistry, humorous dialogue, snark, a three-legged fox, a missing groom-to-be, and charming characters that should definitely not be missed. I highly recommend The Wedding Date Disaster to other readers.
Ridiculously fun, laugh-out-loud humor filled “evil” twin swap/ steamy fake-romance with a fantastic set of characters.
4.5 stars
I enjoyed reading about the characters in this book. The plot was enjoyable and I think the author nailed the enemies-to-lovers trope. However, the F-bomb was dropped a bit too much and unnecessarily, so fair warning if that bothers you as a reader.
The Wedding Date Disaster
By Avery Flynn
A fun enemies to love trope about a small town girl pretending to have made it with a perfect life and a boyfriend in tow. I thought the writing was fun and engaging with some lovely laugh out loud moments. I found that the characters had good chemistry and great banter. I enjoyed the secondary characters and Hadley’s family and the attraction between Hadley and Will was just mesmerizing. Overall an enjoyable book and a fun escape read I had fun reading.
Story was good it was language that was an insult to readers and to the author
I don’t usually enjoy wedding date romances. The need to have a date for a wedding usually makes me cringe, but this book changed my mind. Thoroughly enjoyed the romance between Will, the evil twin, and Hadley. Definitely worth the read.
It was a fun read. The characters were very likeable.
This is a fun book with well developed characters. It’s sweet and charming and lots of fun to read. It explores the trials and tribulations of a close family, but also the joys and love of family too.
This is exactly the type of book to relieve the stress of the pandemic. It’s light and funny with interesting characters that you can relate to. The plot is simple and predictible but it doesn’t matter because it’s a good read. In a word, it’s entertaining.
Loved it. A must read
Will is the twin brother of Hadley’s best friend, Web. From the beginning he has suspected that Hadley is a gold digger and intends to save his brother from her clutches. When he stands in for his brother and escorts her to her sisters wedding the sparks fly. Just when you think his pulled his head out of his @## he jumps on the gold digger nonsense again.
Loved Hadley’s loud and out there family, especially Paw Paw.
Really enjoyed this book. A must read
Hadley is stuck attending a wedding and she enilsts her best friend Wes to be her wing man. Will, the twin brother of Wes, shows up much to Hadley’s dread and ends up signing them up to everything for the wedding. A fun, frolic that moves enemies to lovers into the love category.
I received a copy of this book and am leaving a review.
