Nice-guy Brett is accustomed to life in the friend zone, but when he meets the delectable Liv he’s ready for a change in zip code. What will it take to convince her to ditch her usual type and give him a shot?
I couldn’t wait to get my hands on ‘The Way You Are.’ It kind of snuck up on me and my newsfeed as a new release just three days before it was to go live and thus hit my kindle and I have to say it was a long three days. But, I was grateful that I didn’t have a longer anticipation time lol. I absolutely adored the first four Carolina Connections Novels. Noting that this is the fifth book in the series, these are all written in a way that they could be read as standalone’s. However, the characters from the previous books also make guest appearances here and there, so that is a bonus!
‘The Way You Are’ was such a funny read. It balanced the perfect amount of romance and comedy just like we are used to seeing from Sylvie Stewart. This is partly why I absolutely can’t help but one-click everything from her. Of course the romance had the zing that made you want that tall glass of wine and a fan. Sylvie has a knack for that slow burn build up too! I could honestly gush about the writing for days but…. onto the goods.
OH, Olivia, Liv… I loved her. Sometimes I wanted to yell at her and others I wanted to cheer for her. A lot like she hackle all those players. Liv loves her baseball. She loves her boyfriend. At least she thinks she does. He is perfect. The ballplayer of her dreams. But, there is her best friend that is starting to look really good. Like, not just friend zone good.
Brett gives up. He really likes Liv. But there is that friend zone. He is infamous for it and really it’s just made it to the point where he is just focusing on his career and enjoying what and who he does have in his life at the moment. What will happen when his chance finally comes and the prince charming messes up big-time?

The Way You Are is the fifth book in Sylvie Stewart’s Carolina Connections series! I have read every single story in the series and I have loved every single one of them! You can read the story as a standalone BUT I would recommend taking it from the beginning as you meet the rest of the gang and understand some of the back story.
Sylvie is a fantastic story teller and pulls you in from page one! The sense of humour and the care she takes of her characters … oh my! I was so happy to see that finally we have another story in the series AND I giggled a bit when I saw that she is planning at least couple of more!
The Way You Are is the story of Brett, the eternal nice guy (we have met him before, he is Gavin’s best friend), and Liv, a diehard baseball fan veterinarian. What do you think you will get when you throw together essentially a nice guy and a smart and loyal girl who is not a good judge of character and who also has a boyfriend? They start off in the ‘friend zone’ and yeah, it is sort of a slow burn but oh my when it finally catches fire, it burns hot! And as I said previously, I was great to see all the other old friends from the previous stories and I cannot wait to see what Sylvie as in store for Ari and Jax and Haley …

This is the fifth book in this series and the best yet. This is a funny, creative and engaging story that I had a hard time putting down. I loved the characters, Liv and Jason. They both have the same problem, bad choices in relationships. Just when they find the perfect relationship there is a couple of problems. One, they are friends, are they willing to cross that line? Two, Liv already has a boyfriend. Who will she chose? I highly recommend reading this fun romance story.

The Way You Are by Sylvie Stewart is the fifth book in the Carolina Connections series. This is a great series and can be read individually. The characters recur and it is great to see the progression of them. This tells the story of Brett. He is good with the ladies if being in the friend zone is considered good. Liv is a baseball fan and a smart woman who is a vet. Can Brett get and stay out of the friend zone? He is so cute when he is interacting with Liv.
I have enjoyed this entire series because the characters have their own personal issues and stories to tell. No one is depicted as perfect and no relationship is perfect. Everyone has their ups and downs. The characters are well written and the dialogue is great. The stories alternate between POV which is great giving insight to both primary characters. I look forward to reading books in this series and hope you enjoy it also.

The Way You Are by Sylvie Stewart a five-star read. This is the fifth book in the Carolina Connections series, I have read the series in order and loved it, this one just made me giggle so much harder though. I kept promising myself just one more chapter when I finished and was so tired, I desperately needed to sleep, but then I would read the chapter titles and be like how can I put this down they intrigued me. Brett was so sweet, and just goes to show that a true gent is and how far they can go. Liv will make you smile and pull your hair out, then be smiling again. A great story overall, I cant tell you to get this story quick enough.

The Way You Are (Carolina Connections Book 5)
By: Sylvie Stewart
5 out of 5 stars
The story The Way You Are (Carolina Connections Book 5) by Sylvie Stewart is a wonderful romance book that I loved reading. I have loved this series ever since reading the first book and am excited when a new story in the series comes out. In this book, I enjoyed reading about the characters of Liv and Brett. Liv is a woman who is smart and beautiful. She can also be fiery when she speaks. A friend is what she calls Brett. She then begins to realize she has a crush on him. Brett is used to the friend zone. However, being friends with Liv is sometimes a problem with the thoughts and feelings that he has for her. Oh, and the other problem is Liv’s current boyfriend. Will Brett be able to get Liv to take him out of the friend-zone? What does the future hold for Brett and Liv? Read this story to find out. Brett and Liv are characters that I grew to love with each chapter of the book I read. I found that I was rooting for them to find happiness. The characters show many different emotions throughout the story and I found myself feeling what they did. I also enjoyed reading about some of the additional characters that interact with Brett and Liv. This is a book that I found I didn’t want to put down until I had read the final page. Don’t miss out on the next exciting story in the Carolina Connections series.

An entertaining book from the first until last page. Liv is a feisty girl who lives now. Brett is not that outgoing as Liv. They start in the ’friend zone’, but ends up in….
I liked the characters as they were described – even the scumbag.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Trust me, it was not easy squirming in my chair from anticipatory heat, while I was holding my sides from laughing so much. But that was my predicament while reading this book. It was so much fun, and oh so hot. I LOVED it. Brett was adorable and Liv was uniquely special. They were in the friend zone and getting out of it was hilarious and delicious. No one does witty quips, or sets a sexy scene like Sylvie.
I volunteered to review an arc of this book, and saying that I enjoyed it would be a definite understatement. I had to buy a permanent copy. No one who enjoys romance novels should miss it.

I really love this series so it was exciting to see that there is a 5th book that’s been added (which can totally be read as a standalone, one of my favorite parts of true series). Another favorite? When authors make strong women as their main characters, so Sylvie has hitten a home run (pun intended) on those two aspects alone. Now let’s get to the meat of the book.
Brett seems to have the worst luck with women and while he isn’t opposed to having a relationship, he isn’t meeting the right one, so he’d rather stay single and enjoy his love of baseball.
Liv is a diehard baseball fan, and it just so happens that her cousin and her boyfriend play for the same local team. So when she is cheering (and heckling), it draws attention, specifically the attention of Brett. He loves her quick thinking of comebacks and jeers to throw at the umpire (if only the players liked it as much as he did, she wouldn’t risk getting booted out of the games). But it’s because of this he introduces himself, and a friendship is born.
Brett is totally smitten with Liv, but she’s got a boyfriend, so he has to be okay with being just friends. Even when he spies Liv’s boyfriend cheating on her, he knows it can’t be him that tells her. So he waits in the wings hoping that maybe one day, there can be something more for them. Slowly, over time, Liv is seeing Brett in a different light. He’s a great friend, but it seems that he too, only wants friendship, heck he’s even asking her for dating advice.
The Way You Are is a delicious slow burn, there’s tension that they are both circling and denying. Liv and Brett are great together and the reader is drawn into both of their amazing personalities, they are a really fun duo. Not only are they crazy fun, but their friends are too, friends that we’ve met in previous books, and it’s nice seeing them again. Not only are they a fun duo but their chemistry is crazy hot. This is such a great addition to the Carolina Connections series. Stewart continues to give her readers fun characters with laugh out loud and swoon-worthy moments, a truly great read.

Oh, how I love this group! The way these two met was perfect and the way they tip toed around their attraction to the point of causing each other pain was just perfect. I was so happy when they finally admitted that they liked each other more than just friends and were willing to take that next step. A perfect love story.

While The Way You Are is a stand alone story, it’s better to listen the series in order because the characters from previous books feature prominently. Plus, it’s a really fun series with characters that come to life in the audiobooks. The Way You Are is an entertaining friends to lovers story. I recommend it for listeners who like a slow build up into a relationship.
I listened to the Audible version. The performances by Amanda Stribling and David Black really add to the story. They make a great narration team.

Brett and Liz brings this cute story to life. Brett has been placed in the friend zone with Liz but he wants so much more when it comes to her. There are some sweet spots in this story that will have you cheering this couple on. The story draws you in and have you empathizing with Brett and wanting thigs to go his way.

“The Way You Are” blew me away. Since Brett is Gavin’s best friend, there were glimpses of him in previous books but we never really got to know him. Just putting together what we learned about Brett in the other books, you would have thought that he was a player and not very deep. So very glad that Sylvie decided to treat us to Brett and Olivia’s story so we could learn more about Brett. These two started as friends and over the course of the book grew into so much more. Brett is such a wonderful guy. It was so sweet to see him put his growing attraction on the back burner so he could be the friend Liv needed. Watching Liv work through her issues so she could get to a place where she could experience intimacy was truly a fantastic journey. I can’t wait to see who’s next…..Ari?

I just loved book, it is a great friends to lovers romantic comedy. It is well written with perfect balance of romance and humor. The storylines are interesting and original, they captivated me from start to end. The characters are likable and easy to relate to. I adored the two leads, Brett and Liv, both are full of personality and hilarious at times. Liv catches Brett’s attention at a baseball game, he is instantly attracted to her but she has a boyfriend, but he takes what he could get from her even if it is only friends. I loved the chemistry between these two, also loved how it all plays out for them. There is never a dull moment in this book, it is well plotted with drama, a touch of angst, some great humor, some heartfelt moments and hot ones too. Sylvie Stewart, thank you for another enjoyable story in this awesome series, I am looking forward to the next one, Ari’s story!
I listened to the Audible edition, Amanda Stripling and David Black are talented narrators and voice artists. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another great listen

This is the first book that I’ve read by Sylvie Stewart but it won’t be the last! It’s the 5th book in the series but I found that absolutely no problem to my enjoyment of the storyline. IN fact, there were so many humourous moments that it was just one long moment of fun and love. Brett, our hero, is wonderful and oh so easy to love. His friend, Liv, is his love interest but he’d be probably squashed by her current boyfriend if he annoyed him. But then, Liv starts noticing Brett in more than the light of a friend so maybe, just maybe, Brett’s dearest wish could come through. A Thoroughly enjoyable story with great characters that were believable and likeable. Plenty of fun and witty banter. I look forward to reading the rest of the series in the correct order and then more of Sylvie’s books as I didn’t want to put this page turner down. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Most definitely recommended.

hey Way You Are (Carolina Connections Book 5) By Sylvie Stewart. I love these books, there’s a little romance, a little comedy and sexual tension for days! This book is no different, its the 5th book in the series but it can be read as a standalone. This is the story of Liv who is a lover of baseball and sex. Not in that order. She has a baseball player boyfriend and he checks those boxes off until she meets Brett, a super nice guy who loves baseball as much as she does. Brett has always been the guy next door and the one that finishes last but he’s determined Liv will break that mold. He is smitten with her, she’s loud, sexy and fun and he’s made up his mind he will have her. Liv looks at Brett as only a friend but as they become closer she begins to have doubts about her boyfriend. Will the nice guy finally finish first? This is a fun, sexy read and I love Sylvie Stewart’s books.
