Seven minutes in heaven awarded me seven years in hell.I’ve admired Savannah Fontane since she whizzed down our street on her hot pink bike with rainbow tassels taped on the handlebars. I was in awe someone so small could ride without training wheels, I asked my mom to remove mine that same afternoon.Savannah drew a rainbow heart on my cast the very next day. From then, we were inseparable. I … we were inseparable. I thought Savannah would heal the cracks my parent’s volatile relationship caused to my heart. Only now am I realizing she may fracture it beyond repair.
Author warning: this book has domestic violence situations that may be distressing for some readers. Due to content, it’s only recommended to those over the age of eighteen years. The Way We Are/Were duet can be read away from the enigma series, however spoilers may occur.

This is book one in the Pinkie Promise duet. This is Ryan and Savannah’s story. These two have a long and complicated past and present but it’s worth it all in the end…….right? The ending is not included but it was one heck of a journey so far. Hang on to this wild ride as this road gets steep and bumpy. Enjoy!

Revives memories of my teenage years!
by sewsummore
Ryan and savannah were once as close as family but that changed when his father and her mother became lovers. Years later Ryan still yearned for his best friend while Savannah now a senior in high school was involved with a douchebag with money. Now in their last year of high school, they begin again as friends with a past neither can forget. This was a book full of the angst of teenage love, a mystery that must be solved, and the promise of a future weighed down by the pain of the past and a lie that can’t be forgiven. This is only the first part of the story that continues in the next book. This book revived memories of my teenage years with all the angst and drama that went with it before maturity gave me the wisdom to see life is as good as it gets and you deal with it.

So intense!!! I can’t get over the rollercoaster ride in this book…up and down and it’s starts all over again. Ryan and Savannah’s love story is so innocent and sweet and so genuine. The secondary characters are great and so loyal. Some really hot scenes too. That freakin cliffhanger!
Loved the book it was great, the story was well written and the characters are interesting. Once I started I could not put the book down from start to finish you just could not get enough with twists and turns hot and steamy like a rollercoaster ride of emotions that makes you want more. Ryan and Savannah have been inseparable since they were children.

Brilliant and emotional in all the right ways
The Way We Are is the first book in the Pinkie Promise Duet by Shandi Boyes. It is the story of Ryan and Savannah. These characters have been in previous books by this author in the Enigma Series but here they are center stage. Their story is complicated, deep, emotional, turbulent, and so much for for these childhood friends who turned into young loves and then a whole lot more in so many ways. But the one thing about these two is that they are truly meant for each other.
This is a really great book with an engrossing story-line and a couple wonderfully written characters. But be warned that as you get taken on Ryan and Savannah’s journey their story is not over at the end of this book so be ready to read the second part to their story.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
Ryan just about had me swooning. This is the start of Ryan and Savannah’s story and it’s heartbreaking and confusing and passionate and sweet. It’s a second chance romance with heart. Both Ryan and Savannah have their pasts to get through but I love how Ryan just keeps trying. There are some triggers here but they added so much to the story.

Part one
This is Ryan’s beginning. A background of the sexy detective and what/who made him the man he is today. He grew up with an alcoholic abusive father. His mother was beaten so far down that she literally blamed herself for his behavior. He and Savannah had a close friendship from 6-13yrs old. Secrets, circumstances and bad decisions separated them. Ryan and Savannah were obsessed with each other but each felt the other abandoned their friendship. Now Savannah is in an abusive relationship. Ryan, ever the protector, wants to save her. Their connection is strong. And just when it looks things are going to work out, things fall apart. Can’t wait to read Ryan’s HEA in the next book.

This explains so much about Ryan. He has loved Savannah his whole life and has tried to protect her while he was at it. He lived a very rough childhood and grew up to be a very strong loving man from it. It taught him to take care of the ones he loves and hold them close and protect them. He has losses that cut him deep but they just add to his character. He would risk his own life to save Savannah. Savannah on the outside appears like the spoiled rich girl but what everyone doesn’t see is that she has a sick dad and is doing all she can to stay afloat with him. She wears a mask in front of everyone except Ryan. When she is with him she can be herself. The love between these two is amazing. THis is an amazing book!!

Oh wow – FML!!!
If you are after a book that will send you swooning, get your heart racing, your mind thinking and your anger to rise, this is the book you need to read!!!
The tension between Ryan (my 2nd book husband by this author) and Savannah is rife as they reconnect after years of misguided hurt.
Unfortunately for Ryan, Savannah is in a relationship with a jerk and it will take everything to get her to be his girl!
But can promises made years ago be broken or can they lead to promises of a future?
I binged this book so bad, my work seriously suffered today! Damn real life! But you know it’s good when you want to skip out on work to read it!!
Absolutely loved this story!
This is a wonderfully emotional story and I loved every minute of it! I can’t wait to read the rest of Ryan’s story in The Way We Were!

This was definitely a memorable piece and truly heart wrenching! Ryan and Savannah are soul mates, and have found love at such a tender age. Their relationship was sadly tumultuous and yet bittersweet; as the years pass, they still held onto the other despite all the things going on in their worlds. As a reader, you just couldn’t help but hope that the two would finally get the happiness they both deserve. Definitely worthy!

I love this first part of Ryan’s story. It had me by the edge of my seat! Ryan and Savhanna are a steamy couple! I cried in a couple of spots during this read. Shandi Boyes knows how to take her characters to heaven then crash them back to reality! An awesome read!!

As soon as he saw her he knew he would have her but they were children so they became friends and she helped him feel better from his parents. Will they be more than friends? Will it all fail? See how they get on

Nothing like a cold chill with great characters to enjoy while snuggled up…
I enjoyed reading this book. You can feel the chill in the air, but you continue on as the characters pull you in and make you want to read more. You fall in deep with them, you become hooked on their story. Keep it coming…

When I realized that this book is about two teenagers’ second chance, I did not think I would really enjoy it. I was wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. It is not insipid, immature or silly. It is a very realistic view of how teens take on burdens way too young that cause them to grow up fast. I was impressed with the way the author wrote about the subjects of spousal abuse, manslaughter, Alzheimer, underground fight ring, loyalty, criminal activity and worse. On the bright side there is the childhood love between Savannah and Ryan that was emotionally beautiful as it grew. After being separated for five years they become reacquainted and resume their deep friendship and affection for each other. This is a must read. It definitely is not boring, it is engaging, a real page turner, an excellent storyline, and realistic emotions of the characters. I highly recommend this book and look forward to the sequel.
