In The Way of Kings, #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson introduces readers to the fascinating world of Roshar, a world of stone and storms. It has been centuries since the fall of the Knights Radiant, but their mystical swords and armor remain, transforming ordinary men into near-invincible warriors. I have gotten bogged down in the latest book in this series and have yet to be able to work my way through to the end, but this first novel in the series moves along at a decent pace with Sanderson’s phenomenal world-building and pays off it’s considerable lengths with lots of twists and surprises.
It was amazing
Another terrific read by Sanderson
Very good, hard to put down.
Very surprising

…just read it. 🙂
If you are a fan of Epic Fantasy, it doesn’t get any better than Brandon Sanderson’s “The Way of Kings” — the first book in his “Stormlight Archive” series.
Brandon Sanderson is an exceptional author of fantasy fiction. One of his greatest strengths is in world building and creating a story that draws the reader into the world of his making. Very creative, superb character building, just a great read. One caution: don’t expect to read this book in a day. It’s definitely not a beach read, but so worthwhile for fans of fantasy fiction!
Brandon Sanderson deserves all the praise he gets, and then some. His books are epic and extreme but believable and very down to earth. He has a writing style that differs from nearly everyone else I’ve ever read and it’s beautiful. This series in particular, starting with Way of Kings, Words of Radiance Oathbringer is AMAZING. Honestly, these are what got me into reading any fantasy and I devoured this story line. The combination of creative landscapes with wonderfully diverse characters will keep you coming back for more!
This book is perfect for anyone looking to dive into a new world and get lost between the pages. Brandon Sanderson is, plainly put, the master of creating worlds and this series is no exception.
My favorite book of all time! This was my first exposure to Brandon Sanderson, and I have to say I am far from disappointed. Incredible world-building, complex characters, and a great plot.
awesome.
This is Brandon Sanderson’s masterpiece, and rightly so. The characters are well developed, and the world building is on a whole different level. I highly recommend this book for all lovers of fantasy and fighting and of the world type of stories. It is a lengthy book, about a thousand pages. That would be my only knockdown. It is difficult to carry around a school, as it is kind of heavy. But a well-written book can overcome all downfalls, and this one has been the highlight of my summer. I have moved on to the second book, words of radiance, and can’t wait to see where he picks up the many cliffhangers he left in this first book. High praise and heaps of love Sanderson!
The incredible world building in this book is some of the best in fantasy. There is so much heart in the characters and a remarkable amount of detail in their fantastic world.
This being the third book In this series it is easily the third best book in the series so far. Not as intense or far reaching as the first two books leaving it feeling as a gap novel to get to better stuff upcoming.
Having said that it is still Brandon Sanderson who is maybe the best sci-fi/fantasy writer currently writing. Worth the read and it does advance the story.
Amazing characters and great plot. Sanderson is one of, if not the best!
4.5 – The beginning of this book was a major slugfest for me. Lots of info dumping. It took me about two years of picking it up and putting it back down to finally get to what felt like some measure of payoff. I persevered. I’m glad I did. The last half of this book was absolutely incredible. Payoffs that we’re so satisfying that any grudge I held at Sanderson for giving me lecture after lecture about rock buds (<— book specific reference) has been entirely forgiven. The first half took two years to read. The last half—four days. Can’t wait to read the next one!
This is the first book I’ve read by Mr. Sanderson, and I sure picked a great one.
The depth of the world building is astounding, creative, and just plain cool. Kudos, Mr. Sanderson, kudos! I loved the way the characters’ pasts were woven into the story, how they continually add depth to not only the characters but the world. I enjoyed how the pseudo-cursing added to the story.
This is an epic tale (not to mention an epic-sized book), and I was astounded to learn it’s just the first of a ten book (and one “novella” that’s as long as many novels–a mere 300+ pages!) and that the books seem to get longer and longer.
I’ve just finished the third book and the total pages I’ve read are longer than most series by a significant factor, so if you enjoy complex, epic sagas, this is for you!
Possibly my favorite book of all time!
This is one of my favorite books. It will introduce you to a whole new world with well constructed characters and an innovative plot. Once you start this book, you cannot put it down.
