From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Orphan Train, and the critically acclaimed author of Bird in Hand, comes a novel of love, risk, and self-discovery—includes a special PS section featuring insights, interviews, and more.
Angela can feel the clock ticking. She is single in New York City, stuck in a job she doesn’t want and a life that seems to have, somehow, just happened. She … happened. She inherited a flair for Italian cooking from her grandmother, but she never seems to have the time for it—these days, her oven holds only sweaters. Tacked to her office bulletin board is a photo from a magazine of a tidy cottage on the coast of Maine—a charming reminder of a life that could be hers, if she could only muster the courage to go after it.
On a hope and a chance, Angela decides to pack it all up and move to Maine, finding the nudge she needs in the dating profile of a handsome sailor who loves dogs and Italian food. But her new home isn’t quite matching up with the fantasy. Far from everything familiar, Angela begins to rebuild her life from the ground up. Working at a local coffeehouse, she begins to discover the pleasures and secrets of her new small-town community and, in the process, realizes there’s really no such thing as the way life should be.

Great book enjoyed reading
It’s been a long while since I read this book, but one that stands out in my memory of books read. I chose it for my book club.
Enjoyed book, interesting character development.
This was okay, I didn’t love it, but it was okay.
Amazing!
It was a “fun read “! Sometimes you have to take a chance to find a better chance!
Sick of your job in the city and dreaming of living a cottage at the seaside? This is your perfect escape novel. It is peopled with a likeable protagonist and readily identifiable members of her family and friend group, including the Italian grandmother we all wish we had. My only complaint was that it ended unexpectedly, (a downside of reading …
very good
Not a bad book, but nothing special about it, and the ending wasn’t firm. Not open enough to make me feel cheated, but not really satisfying.
The grandmother refers to stone soup and character Angela found ways to make stone soup- life lessons for readers.
This was a new-to-me book by a new-to-me author, and I’ll definitely be reading her other works. While it is is romantic in a lot of ways, it is not a romance per se. It explores one of my favorite themes: finding (creating!) your true home. And as an added bonus, it has tons of foodie talk and recipes, mmmm, and a dog. Dogs make every story …
A good story and a good cook book.
Good story, well told about a young lady exploring a risk. Her way was not perfect and she made some poor, but not devastating choices. I enjoyed reading her experiences in her growth to new discoveries about herself.
Love all her books! This was no exception.
Really enjoyed this book. Easy reading with a believable main character. Nice real life outcome.
Good beach read – moves right along, but nothing to tragic or emotional to keep you up at night!
Love this author
Disappointing book from such a good writer – started off very promisingly but petered out into a predicable romance/cookery book.
