~Finding herself at home~
—>>> Just when Abbey thinks that her life just could not sink any lower, her truck breaks down not too far from where she grew up and who comes by to rescue her but a boy she used to know. David is now all grown up, a police officer, and quite attractive, to boot. The signs are there to see if they look hard enough, but both her father and David give her breathing space as she makes a new home for her two children in a world who accepts her for herself. It had taken a decade for Abbey to realize that her kids were already well on their way to repeating the roles of abuser and abused by bearing witness to their parents’ relationship, and she finally found the courage to leave her husband Tom.
Much inner struggle is addressed, involving a woman’s bruised and fragile heart and a man’s willing one. They eventually make their way towards a sweet and satisfying HEA, but not without a trial or two to challenge them first before they get their second chance at love.

Abbey and David were best friends growing up and he’s always loved her. Abbey married someone else and he abused her for years. When she finally gets the courage to leave him she takes her kids and heads to her hometown where she runs into David. I loved how protective and gentle David is. This was a hard book to read because it’s an emotional read full of drama, angst, abuse, fear and it felt so real. This author did an awesome job writing about such a difficult topic.
Even though Abbey and David were best friends, she married someone else. Her life was filled with domestic abuse, terror, intimidation, and fear for her children. She and David had many problems to overcome in their search for a HEA. Good read and addresses many problems and fears of domestic issues.

Finding your strength and the love that should have been
Great, enthralling story. Abbey is married to an abuser. When she sees her kids exhibiting traits from this poisonous relationship she decides it’s time to leave. She sets a plan in motion and runs with her kids back to her childhood home. A place she hasn’t seen in 10 years. She needs to repair her kids, herself and the relationships with those that she left behind for the monster that was her husband.
David was her best friend when they were younger, he wasthen and is still now in love with her. He will give her time but intends to make her his and will do anything to protect her. This story shares Abbey’s hopes, her fears and trying to pick up the pieces. David is patient with Abbey. Her actions show him what she’s been through and he needs her to feel safe. Together they are romantic and sexy which just adds to the meat of the story. To me this is a story about love and bravery and finding yourself after horrible experiences. About putting the pieces back together, loving your kids to help them back too and finally getting the love that was right in front of her all along and welcoming it.
What an incredible read! This is a second chance story but this author has put on heck of a spin into it. Yeah, its a girl returning to her small town, hometown but she has one heck of a story to tell and share when she returns. This book contains some serious discussions on some tough topics, including spousal abuse. However, I think that this author is able to share those moments and get Abby’s thoughts and feelings portrayed to the tastefully to the reader. I really enjoyed reading this book and experiencing Abby’s character’s journey from returning home to her second chance at love with an old flame.
