USA Today bestselling series.India Steele is desperate. Her father is dead, her fiancé took her inheritance, and no one will employ her, despite years working for her watchmaker father. Indeed, the other London watchmakers seem frightened of her. Alone, poor, and at the end of her tether, India takes employment with the only person who’ll accept her – an enigmatic and mysterious man from America. … man from America. A man who possesses a strange watch that rejuvenates him when he’s ill.
Matthew Glass must find a particular watchmaker, but he won’t tell India why any old one won’t do. Nor will he tell her what he does back home, and how he can afford to stay in a house in one of London’s best streets. So when she reads about an American outlaw known as the Dark Rider arriving in England, she suspects Mr. Glass is the fugitive. When danger comes to their door, she’s certain of it. But if she notifies the authorities, she’ll find herself unemployed and homeless again – and she will have betrayed the man who saved her life.
With a cast of quirky characters, an intriguing mystery, and a dash of romance, THE WATCHMAKER’S DAUGHTER is the start of a thrilling new historical fantasy series from the author of the bestselling Ministry of Curiosities, Freak House, and Emily Chambers Spirit Medium books.

Listened to this in audio. The only reason I dubbed a four star was because I wasn’t a fan of the voice. The book itself is quite solid, and I did enjoy the storyline. I recommend for 1800’s lovers with a twisted fantasy.

cANT’ WAIT FOR THE NEXT INSTALMENT
I enjoyed the book. It was not predictable. It showed a view of historic England, the times, characters and lifestyle. Unusual in that it has some supernatural aspects to it, but doesn’t explain everything. You’ll have to read another book to see why she has the abilities she has and what does the secret society know about it?
Great book
Great book
The writing gives you just the right amount of information at a time to keep you turning the pages to find out what happens next. Need to get the next installment to find out what happens next to the characters.
Good read.
Very enjoyable.
I want more.
This was a fun read. Seems written with a tongue in cheek style reminiscent of Elizabeth Peter’s “Amelia Peabody” series. Quick, though predictable, I will definitely read the next in the series.
LOVED this book!
C J Archer writes wonderful slightly twisted and unexpected stories. I have read some more of her books and really enjoyed them
Definitely not as expected. In fact, it has taken me a few weeks to decide how to review it. There were many unreached plot lines.
In fact, I kept expecting time travel, or something unexpected to happen. It really didn’t.
The plot is closer to a 3, as it some many threads were unanswered.
It was amazing. Strong female lead that was not mannish or out of step with her times.
Enjoyable and informative. I knew nothing of London’s guilds until reading this book, which made me research them further.
Loved this book.
I enjoyed the romantic relationship building between the two main characters in the strict Victorian times.
Have a good read, you will enjoy this book. It kept me hanging on all the way through. Good author, writes in a way that makes for a quick read and interesting characters.
Liked the characters and the story. Hard to put down the kindle. Wanted to read until finished.
