USA Today bestselling series.India Steele is desperate. Her father is dead, her fiancé took her inheritance, and no one will employ her, despite years working for her watchmaker father. Indeed, the other London watchmakers seem frightened of her. Alone, poor, and at the end of her tether, India takes employment with the only person who’ll accept her – an enigmatic and mysterious man from America. … man from America. A man who possesses a strange watch that rejuvenates him when he’s ill.
Matthew Glass must find a particular watchmaker, but he won’t tell India why any old one won’t do. Nor will he tell her what he does back home, and how he can afford to stay in a house in one of London’s best streets. So when she reads about an American outlaw known as the Dark Rider arriving in England, she suspects Mr. Glass is the fugitive. When danger comes to their door, she’s certain of it. But if she notifies the authorities, she’ll find herself unemployed and homeless again – and she will have betrayed the man who saved her life.
With a cast of quirky characters, an intriguing mystery, and a dash of romance, THE WATCHMAKER’S DAUGHTER is the start of a thrilling new historical fantasy series from the author of the bestselling Ministry of Curiosities, Freak House, and Emily Chambers Spirit Medium books.

Good read
Felt like I was in the middle of a story instead of a stand alone one. Too many elements that didn’t hang together.
What a delightful historical fantasy! The entire ensemble is so varied and entertaining. I find India to be sadly jaded and hope she is able to look past her history and enjoy the relationships around her. Matt is such a fantastic character. He’s the perfect combination of British Lord and American outlaw. There’s so much to be said for all the interactions amongst the characters here. This will be a terribly enjoyable series.
Dull and unengaging. Stopped after the first three chapters.
It was so interesting. I love the way that she writes. Excited to read the rest of the series!!
Could not put this down!
This is the first I’ve read from CJ Archer, and it won’t be the last. What a lovely story. True to the time period, unique characters. I loved India! So spunky and yet true to herself and her social status. She recognized her flaws and did her best to improve herself, in spite of being kicked down at every turn. I’ve already bought book two. Can’t wait to see if they find Chronos!
This is a wonderful Victorian era novel. Not strictly a romance but with beautiful forshadowing to what might “possibly” happen further along in the series. PLUS there is a enticing tease about magic. This is an excellent novel.
Free flow, scaring often with d characters on display.
Only that it didn’t conclude then n there itself.
Good story but language needs to be changed, remove the gd’s.
Loved it.
strangely compelling story
A compelling historical fantasy book.
Great book
I found the story and characters entertaining and interesting. The only draw back was it is continued to another book. But it still is worth reading.
enjoyed the start of a who done it, romance, and magic
This is a spectaclarly good story with evocative characters who are vividly drawn and about whom we cannot help but care. The plot turns and twists and the relationships among the characters are wonderfully well drawn.
i absolutely enjoyed this book. the story is interesting and the characters enjoyable. the story line is definitely original. a young woman ends up homeless and jobless after her father dies and her fiance reveals his true intentions of stealing her father’s shop. she ends up in the company of some rough american types who are her saving grace, at least for a week. there are a handful or swear words in it. so far, no sex. i hope the series continues that way.
cool
I regret to say that I was unable to finish this book because my Saviour’s name was used in vain. It is unfortunate because it was an engaging story and interesting plot. I really wish I could have finished it.
Really enjoyed this book from a new, self-published author! Interesting plot, characters you immediately relate to, and skilled conversations that move the story along. Buying the next one!
