USA Today bestselling series.India Steele is desperate. Her father is dead, her fiancé took her inheritance, and no one will employ her, despite years working for her watchmaker father. Indeed, the other London watchmakers seem frightened of her. Alone, poor, and at the end of her tether, India takes employment with the only person who’ll accept her – an enigmatic and mysterious man from America. … man from America. A man who possesses a strange watch that rejuvenates him when he’s ill.
Matthew Glass must find a particular watchmaker, but he won’t tell India why any old one won’t do. Nor will he tell her what he does back home, and how he can afford to stay in a house in one of London’s best streets. So when she reads about an American outlaw known as the Dark Rider arriving in England, she suspects Mr. Glass is the fugitive. When danger comes to their door, she’s certain of it. But if she notifies the authorities, she’ll find herself unemployed and homeless again – and she will have betrayed the man who saved her life.
With a cast of quirky characters, an intriguing mystery, and a dash of romance, THE WATCHMAKER’S DAUGHTER is the start of a thrilling new historical fantasy series from the author of the bestselling Ministry of Curiosities, Freak House, and Emily Chambers Spirit Medium books.

I am not a sci fi fan but am a historical fiction fan and this book was a pleasant combo of the two. Good read.
I loved this book. Wish there was a sequel, would like to know more of they story.
This story left me wanting more when finished.
Great book. Hard to put down. Good story and unique!
Loved it loved it loved it a very different story line to what I am use to but loved the twists and turns the story line took very good book.
Excellent mystery with some romance and intrigue.
This book was a fast read. Fun and engaging.
India and Matt are great characters and I couldn’t put this book down. A great historical fantasy book. It is the start of a series, but I will continue to read until the end.
I liked it well enough to finish it
Personally, I prefer standalone books, which is why the first installment of a series is always a bit hard to rate. I also prefer romances with a mystery, which is the opposite of this novel. That said, The Watchmaker’s Daughter by C.J. Archer is well written with an interesting story and a steady pace. The lead characters, Matthew Glass and India Steele are both complex but likable. The supporting characters each have strong personalities, especially Aunt Letitia (she’s my favorite).
If you’re wanting a standalone romance, this is not what you’re looking for. Yes the two main characters are attracted to each other, only reading further into this mystery series will the reader find out whether or not they get together. Also, the immediate mystery will be solved, but the over-arching mystery continues into the next book(s) in the series.
Content 411: Although there is no sex in this book, there is a moderate amount of non-vulgar secular and religious swearing, and some mildly described violence.
I enjoyed the read. It was a very interesting story. A book with new and fresh concepts even though it was set in the past.
I was so excited to read this book from the “blurb” It sounded exciting, original & fresh. However, to my dismay it had the fatal flaw. The one thing that to me I will NOT read regardless who the author is the single letter on a page. I don’t know why this has come in vogue, to me it seems a way to add pages to a book. Making a short story a Novella, a Novella a Novel. One Novel into Two Novels & the 900 to 1200 page Books I so fondly remember from my 30 – 40’s into 4 to 6 Novel’s of today.
I thought this book had a good plot good writing good charactersAnd I will probably continue the series. However I wish that the author would tone down some of the sexual innuendo and leave us with a good fantasy adventure
Loved it! I’m on the 3rd in the series.
Did not hold my attention
