USA Today bestselling series.India Steele is desperate. Her father is dead, her fiancé took her inheritance, and no one will employ her, despite years working for her watchmaker father. Indeed, the other London watchmakers seem frightened of her. Alone, poor, and at the end of her tether, India takes employment with the only person who’ll accept her – an enigmatic and mysterious man from America. … man from America. A man who possesses a strange watch that rejuvenates him when he’s ill.
Matthew Glass must find a particular watchmaker, but he won’t tell India why any old one won’t do. Nor will he tell her what he does back home, and how he can afford to stay in a house in one of London’s best streets. So when she reads about an American outlaw known as the Dark Rider arriving in England, she suspects Mr. Glass is the fugitive. When danger comes to their door, she’s certain of it. But if she notifies the authorities, she’ll find herself unemployed and homeless again – and she will have betrayed the man who saved her life.
With a cast of quirky characters, an intriguing mystery, and a dash of romance, THE WATCHMAKER’S DAUGHTER is the start of a thrilling new historical fantasy series from the author of the bestselling Ministry of Curiosities, Freak House, and Emily Chambers Spirit Medium books.

Great read, fun characters
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters were unpredictable and clever. I look forward to reading more in this series.
I enjoyed this book so much that I purchased the next two in the series.
Fun mysteries, set in Victorian London, with a smart and sassy heroine and well drawn original supporting characters.
CJ Archer has created characters that have substance and depth within a lighthearted murder mystery series buoyed by a slow-burning, believable romance. Miss Steele is unashamedly demure and proper, and the development of her character, including sassy intelligence and independence, is fun to watch unfold.
The magical aspect of the story is understated and flat – India Steele focuses very little of her attention on the astonishing discovery that she has magical powers associated with her inherited talent with timepieces. It is a surprisingly small part of the story. If this part of the story were developed more the series would be much more satisfying.
No reason not to read these though – they’re entertaining and fun.
Took too long to get into the story
I really liked this book, kept me guessing until the end.
I liked it very much. More of a YA age book. But I have bought the whole series.
I really enjoyed the character development and truly cared about them. Love the fantasy element and can’t wait to read the next book in the series
An amazing tale of the troubles and achievements of a watchmaker’s daughter after the death of her father. I loved it!
Great fantasy! Easy to get immersed into the plot. I didn’t want the story to finish. Good thing there are sequels!
Loved it
Loved this book! Filled with fun, unique characters that bring the book to life.
Loved this book and the entire series. So well written and entertaining. A page Turner for sure.
I really enjoyed this story. It kept my attention and the characters were interesting. Loved the setting of Victorian England.
Well written and was enjoyable to read.
Obviously intended to introduce a series. Not so good as a stand-alone.
I loved it! It is a book that, if you are used to predicting what will happen next and being right, you’ll want to read. Because you’ll be wrong!
Not a bad book, but it was designed to lay ground work for subsequent books in the series. Interesting premise, but because it is the first of a series it tended to drag in the middle.
At points, I became impatient with this book. Plot moved to slowly for me. The premise was good, the secondary characters were my favorite and they lightened the tone of the book.
I love this book I can’t wait to start the next one!!
