USA Today bestselling series.India Steele is desperate. Her father is dead, her fiancé took her inheritance, and no one will employ her, despite years working for her watchmaker father. Indeed, the other London watchmakers seem frightened of her. Alone, poor, and at the end of her tether, India takes employment with the only person who’ll accept her – an enigmatic and mysterious man from America. … man from America. A man who possesses a strange watch that rejuvenates him when he’s ill.
Matthew Glass must find a particular watchmaker, but he won’t tell India why any old one won’t do. Nor will he tell her what he does back home, and how he can afford to stay in a house in one of London’s best streets. So when she reads about an American outlaw known as the Dark Rider arriving in England, she suspects Mr. Glass is the fugitive. When danger comes to their door, she’s certain of it. But if she notifies the authorities, she’ll find herself unemployed and homeless again – and she will have betrayed the man who saved her life.
With a cast of quirky characters, an intriguing mystery, and a dash of romance, THE WATCHMAKER’S DAUGHTER is the start of a thrilling new historical fantasy series from the author of the bestselling Ministry of Curiosities, Freak House, and Emily Chambers Spirit Medium books.

Do not remember much about book, probably have read thirty books since then. Remember looking into buying book two it was that good.
I enjoyed this book. The characters were relatable and fun to read about. The romance was there but not extensive. I continued to read the series.
Good fast read, and I have read the whole series and will read the next one. However, if the author doesn’t get to a resolution of the characters love interest in the next one, I will stop getting them.
The Watchmaker’s Daughter was an eye-opener for me! I had not realized how powerful the guilds were to shop owners and other talented and gifted individuals in the 1800’s, though I did realize women were often thought useless outside the home, other than their influence on their husband’s monetary or social status.
C. J. Archer brought the period alive and made magic seem totally possible, giving plausible reasons for its almost complete banishment in her heroine’s time. The cast of characters is absolutely wonderful, and I especially loved Matt’s hilarious cousin Willie and his wonderfully sweet, memory-lapsing, upper-crust Aunt. After this first book, I had to read the rest of the series, and Archer does a great job of story and character development. You’ll come to love all of Matt’s close-knit crew, and as the novels progress, the plot definitely thickens!
I’m looking forward to C. J. Archer’s next Glass & Steele novel which is supposed to be out in March of 2018!
Loved it!
The Watchmaker’s Daughter was well-constructed, using the background of the Victorian England culture to create an intriguing story in which the characters lives and the culture played into the development of the story, while reflecting the struggles we all face in unfamiliar situations. The development of relationships is well portrayed. The story develops well and has some nice twists.
I enjoyed the characters reation to each other.
I loved the characters and the storyline.

This book is a very easy read.
It was a nice story, the characters were very likable. It wasn’t a steamy novel which was nice.
An interesting story. Kept my attention, not what I would call a “page turner” but still a good story
This book was just ok; I thought it was drawn out too much a
D I was disappointed in the ending…not really and ending but a continuation of the story when I anticipated closure. I won’t be buying the next book.
