USA Today bestselling series.India Steele is desperate. Her father is dead, her fiancé took her inheritance, and no one will employ her, despite years working for her watchmaker father. Indeed, the other London watchmakers seem frightened of her. Alone, poor, and at the end of her tether, India takes employment with the only person who’ll accept her – an enigmatic and mysterious man from America. … man from America. A man who possesses a strange watch that rejuvenates him when he’s ill.
Matthew Glass must find a particular watchmaker, but he won’t tell India why any old one won’t do. Nor will he tell her what he does back home, and how he can afford to stay in a house in one of London’s best streets. So when she reads about an American outlaw known as the Dark Rider arriving in England, she suspects Mr. Glass is the fugitive. When danger comes to their door, she’s certain of it. But if she notifies the authorities, she’ll find herself unemployed and homeless again – and she will have betrayed the man who saved her life.
With a cast of quirky characters, an intriguing mystery, and a dash of romance, THE WATCHMAKER’S DAUGHTER is the start of a thrilling new historical fantasy series from the author of the bestselling Ministry of Curiosities, Freak House, and Emily Chambers Spirit Medium books.

I loved this book! A great start to a new series that will pull you along on the adventure 🙂
I like historical fiction and I totally enjoyed this book. It’s a little suspenseful, intriguing and imaginative. The characters draw you in and I can’t wait to see what happens to them in the next book. No cliffhangers, thankfully. They just make you want to spend more time with them.
I will be looking for the following books in the series. It is a well enough written story to outweigh the romance novel nature of some of the prose.
I really love this look and the whole series. This has become one of my favorite books. I found it different and very entertaining! I had to read book to you as soon as possible and I spent a lot of nights of reading.
I am addicted to Archer’s writing style and love this series!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will read the rest of this series. The characters were great fun and well written.
Unusual contrast between the old style west and London.the portrayal off the times and day to day life is excellent ,characters are excellent as is the plot ,unusual ans an excellent read.
From the first paragraph you are drawn into a world of intriguing characters, action packed & fast moving storyline. Read this whole series in under a week, I couldn’t put it down!!!
5 All the way!
I loved this book! I could not put it down.
Loved the flow and characters.
I don’t like “romance novels but a good story with a little romance if fine. In fact, this one is very good. It is urban fantasy with unexpected characters and story. It was just the fast reading summer entertainment I needed. In fact, I have read the entire series and anxiously await the next installment.
A twist of fate brings two people together that perhaps should never have met, but they do and the rest that follows is nothing short of a nerve-jangling adventure to get the watch repaired in order to keep Glass alive. Steel, skeptical at first as she lives with reality all the time believes nothing more than this – watches keep time. Nothing more. This newcomer into her world is going to change that belief once and for all. And hopefully in time to save his life before time literally runs out.
I loved the mystery of the story, the characters, and the entire world built. So many possibilities such a thoughtful book.
I really enjoyed this book and the characters with just a touch of interesting magic and light steampunk. The characters are endearing, and well developed. I ordered the rest of the series and looking forward to the release of #4 in Sept.
Good story with interesting characters. I would recommend this book.
So who IS Mr.Steel anyway? It’s Victorian England, manners are a necessity but standing up for your rights are even more important. Throw in a mystery watch and the quest to find the watchmaker and you,’ve got a great read.. Highly entertaining a d enjoyable.
Too similar to other romantic novels for me.
It was another great read in the series and I can’t wait to read the next!
As the short synopsis of the story says India is without… and her employer may be a criminal.
Well now, I would like to add to that. First, the young man who courted India is the real crook. Once he had her father’s shop and the business he turned India out, penniless. As fate, according to our author, would have it India is granted a respite by Mr. Glass, who just happened to be in her former shop and wittness to her repremanding her former fiance.
Now India is a proper English lady and knows how to behave and how proper gentlemen should act as well. Mr. Glass (Matt) is not an Englishman, nor are his associates. He is a relative of a “Lord” and as such Properly English. He makes note of India and for reasons that will be revealed later, he hires her to help him find a “clock maker.”
I found the story interesting enough that I want to read more about them, the entorage of Matt and the abilities of India.
Good entertaining reading for all, language is limited to very vew “outburst” and no lurid encounters, although they do come close.
This is an entertaining read, somewhat predictable but satisfyingly so.
