The saga continues with Meira Amon and her quest for what’s right in the thrilling, adventurous ride in The Warrior King, Inferno Rising series.
All our favorite dragons and the ones who we don’t care for are all present in this journey of perseverance, trust and love. I am overjoyed with these stories as they are captivating- like your hanging on the cliff of Ben Nevis waiting for a dragon to swoop on.
However, this third book in my opinion had a little flow issue and was harder to concentrate on all the secondary characters- coming, going, who Meira is looking at through the glass, etc. don’t get me wrong, it was enjoyable, but I skimmed a lot to get to dialogue and action.
Meira Amon was definitely different than her two sisters prior that we have come across. But she is a leader above all else and it really showed. Samuel Veles is a protector 100%. No wonder why he is apart of the Black clan. Together they are fierce and loyal- even when their brain tells them otherwise. Haha.
”…the real Meira emerging from the flames, tested by fire and forged into something amazing.

THE WARRIOR KING by Abigail Owen is book Three in the Inferno Rising Series. This is the story of Samael Veles and Meira Amon. I have read the previous book which of course added to my enjoyment of this one. But, I do believe you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Meria is a Phoenix who doesn’t enjoy being around people much which is how she found working around computers so much better. But she is willing to marry King Gorgon of the Black Clan to get revenge on King Pytheors who murder her parents. Meria sisters have been finding their mates but that is something Meria doesn’t believe in at all. Meria uses mirrors as portals which normally she isn’t every seen by another until one day Samael happens to see. her. Samael is a dragon who is a high ranking guard for King Georgon so he has to resits he immediate feeling for Meria. But Meria isn’t really allow to mate with anyone but her true mate which ends up putting King Gorgon into ashes. This was a very exciting read and I do want to read more from this author.

This third book in the Inferno Rising series picks right up where the prior volume left off. The allied dragon rebel clans continue to face off over the bogus High King and his various lackeys. But things seem to keep going from bad to worse for our little band of do-gooders.
Hoping to help turn the tide of war in their favor, Meira offers herself as mate to the ally King Gorgon. Although a good guy in nearly every regard, he is not, however, her fated mate, so I really do not understand how she can think a union with him would result in anything other than his death. In point of fact, after their wedding ceremony, when it is time to seal the deal, Meira ends up killing the king with her phoenix fire. Except that somehow it isn’t Gorgon. Of course, hardly anyone believes her, and she must escape from her own people while she tries to find the real king and discover what is going on.
Luckily, she has Samael to help her with this monumental task. Although he spends just as much time fighting off his attraction to Meira as he does protecting her, which doesn’t leave a whole lot of time for sleuthing. They manage, with the help of her magic and some exceptional friends, to explore quite a bit though, and do learn, if not all, at least quite a bit of what is happening around them and in the world at large, in the larger struggle against the forces of evil arrayed against them.
That these two do not immediately realize that they are fated mates, or at least as the story goes along, is just absurd to me. He sees her through a mirror when she is eavesdropping via her magic, something that no one else has ever been able to do. And he is able to touch her when she is using her phoenix fire, without his being burned to a crisp like her erstwhile (fake) husband.
And both of them are willing to give up the love that they share in order to further the cause of their group, not to mention avoid betraying the love of their mentor and friend. But Gorgon discovers their betrayal, too late to do much about it, but soon enough to forgive them even that.
There were some significant sacrifices made in this tale; ones that had meaningful emotional and strategic importance in the story overall and specifically to the main characters and their closest allies. I believe there is one more book in the series, which I can’t wait to read. I just hope that they are able to avenge some of their losses.

Love from afar during a crisis fills the pages of The Warrior King. Meira Amon knows in her head that mating the dragon king of the Black Clan, and aligning herself with his people, is the only way to work toward revenge on the Rotting King. When a different dragon views her through her magic mirrors though, her heart has other ideas. If she doesn’t see him again, Meira can maintain control.
Samael Veles is nothing but loyal to King Gorgon. As one of the fiercest Black Clan warriors, Samael takes his position seriously. Falling for his King’s betrothed was never part of his plan. What is part of the plan includes ignoring his feelings and his dragon for the good of the Clan.
When calamity strikes the Black Clan, Meira and Samael face difficult decisions, dangerous situations, and the wrath of those around them.
The Warrior King is an epic paranormal romance. One I couldn’t put down, reading it all day today. Once I began Meira and Samael’s story there was no putting it down. I was hooked, engaged in the characters, story, and setting from the very beginning. Throughout the book I anxiously awaited the ending, wondering how, if Meira was promised to another, she and Samael could be together. Maybe they couldn’t be, and I was headed for heartbreak.
This book is simply amazing. The longing and intense chemistry between Meira and Samael is off-the-charts hot from the minute they viewed each other through the looking glass. The drama fueled my intense need to binge this book. I loved how the author drew me in with her fiery (pun intended) hero and heroine, evil baddie, relationship twist, and epic dragon showdown. I enjoyed the slow-burn romance, the climactic battle, and the fierceness of Meira, Samael, and the rest of the characters. There is also a sadness that I felt to my bones.
I love the author’s writing style, conversational and easy to follow. The pacing of the story is perfect, not too fast, not too slow. There aren’t any boring or dull spots, as the author created 3-dimensional characters and a 3-dimensional world. I was engrossed in this book from the very beginning and was drawn in by the action, romance, snark, and strength of both Meira and Samael. Abigail Owen is a favorite and I can’t wait to dive into more of her books.

The Warrior King by Abigail Owen is Book III in the Inferno Rising series. Even though the storyline is familiar, dragon meets phoenix and….Abigail Owen always adds those little bits that make an amazing story unputdownable and the characters to die for.
The Warrior King is Meira and Samael’s story and it is a HOT one.
Being an empath and a Phoenix, Meira enjoys the solitude of working with computers. She has chosen her mate, not for love, but to get her revenge for the death of her parents.
A glance in the mirror from Samael changed their lives. Meira uses mirrors as portals, but she couldn’t understand how he was able to see her. That had never happened before. What does it mean?
She must forget she ever saw Samael, .but he is her intended mate’s friend and protector. He thinks of King Gorgon as a father figure. He would be assigned as her protector and I foresee some problems. I wondered how this would work out and Abigail Owen never fails to surprise me. She takes me to places I can’t go on my own and makes me love every minute of it.
The torment that Meira and Samael go through trying to do the right thing and not betray a good man and friend like King Gorgon is torturous and agonizing. Her Phoenix “lights” up when he is near and his dragon fights to take control, to be free to claim her.
The Phoenix’s are desired by the Rotting King Pytheios. When a dragon is unmated, his body rots and a Phoenix can save him and declare him High King. He wants all of their powers and will do anything to obtain them.
Meira and her sisters are protected by more than dragons. We have werewolves and Carrick, a gargoyle, who play a role. We have Maul, a Hellhound and Vincent Van Goat.
Do dragons have pets? Meira has rescued a kitten and I wonder if it will become a dragon snack or a clan pet.
Meira’s comment…”release the Kraken”, had me cracking up, creating some wild visions dancing in my head.
Dragons flying, slashing, clawing, fighting to the death, going down in flames.
I have read each book as it has been published and Abigail Owen includes bits and pieces to update what’s happening in each book so you can follow along. It didn’t take me long to catch up. BUT, I would have loved to binge read the entire series, fully lost in this world.
While each book tells the story of a couple, a Phoenix and a dragon falling in love and mating, each story has unique events that keep adding to the book surprises, and twists and turns, that I love so much.
With tears in my eyes, some of the good guys fall. I love that Abigail Owen is not afraid to kill off a character if it improves the story and gets my emotions all riled up.
The mating is HOT! and the future, though filled with danger, is bright, hopeful. I love that it ends on a positive note, leaving me feeling good and wanting more.
The secret they have fought to keep has been exposed. There are four Phoenix sisters and Angelique’s story will be told. She may be a Phoenix and daughter of the past king of the White Clan, but she has no power…does she?
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of The Warrior King by Abigail Owen.
nother great book in the series! Meira and Sameal are destined for each other,… However Meira has made the decision to marry Gorgon the King of the Black Dragons, and Samael is loyal to the king.. hes been like a father to him so there is no way hes going to do anything about the feelings he has for Meira.
After Meira and Gorgon marry some major things happen, and Meira and Samael end up on the run.. They are going to do whatever they can to stop the Rotting King, who has some tricks up his sleeve.. Things that are going to throw all the dragon kingdoms in to chaos..
Through this story we get to see Meira really starting to believe in herself, and realize that although she is different than her sisters she still has some skills.. Which I mean being able to move through mirrors, and being a wiz with technology is nothing to sneeze at, I also enjoyed seeing Samael let go a little bit and show the feelings hes had for Meira ever since the first time he saw her. Once they admit that they do have feelings for each other their chemistry is explosive.
. Its full of action, awesome fight sceens, and steamly love scenes. Also we get to see more of Maul my favorite hellhound, a goat, and a clan of gargoyles..
Starting this book I was so curious how Meira and Samael were going to end up together.. Meira is so determined to marry Gorgon and help unite the dragon kings against Pythos.. and Samael is determined to be loyal to Gorgon and not let his feelings get in the way of what Meira and Gorgon are trying to do.. The journey was long and crazy.. I mean especially at the end this thing happens and I was like OMG.. but they do finally end up with their happily ever after which was really beautiful..
I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and see whats going to happen next!!!

Meira has offered to marry the king of the black dragons. She wants to get revenge for her parent’s deaths. Samael has worked hard to get where he is in the king’s guard. He is loyal but the minute he sees Meira he’s attracted to her. After a tragic accident leaves his people without their king because of Meira, he is left with deciding how to protect her and serve his people. A good read with appearances from some of the former characters from the other books.
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.

This is best read after the first two books in the series which are about the heroine’s sisters. I just loved the first two books and have reread them a couple times. This book continues where the previous one left off, the battle to take down the Rotting King, but it just doesn’t measure up to the Wow factor of the other two books. I really liked the hero and the heroine was likable enough, but it seemed like they got dragged through the book as things happened to them and then they had to deal with it; reacting, not acting. Even when they came up with a plan, it either didn’t happen or it was anti-climactic. Their romance just didn’t have the steam that was evident in the previous books. There were some surprises/twists, action, humor, and appearances by beloved characters. I was glad to have read this book because of the major story arc and needing to know what happened and hints at what is coming next. I probably won’t reread this one, but I will definitely be reading the next one, because I have to know the final sister’s story and how they finally put an end to the Rotting King.

Meira and Samuels book is a slow burn romance, you can feel their connection, even if they try to ignore it! She has promised herself to the Black King Gorgon, who is a good person. Fated mates are once in a lifetime though…
Their story is told around the continuing battle between good and evil and lots of previous characters appear as they all start to come together to fight. The story held my attention and the were some touching moments and a twist or two.
Fiery dragon/phoenix romance, best enjoyed in series order in my opinion.
Enjoy.

This was a good paranormal story. There were things I liked and disliked about this story. I enjoyed the characters in this story a lot. This story had suspense, action and steamy scenes and but I do wish there was a little bit more romance in this story when it came to Meira and Samael. I enjoyed the moments Meira and Samael spent together even when they were trying to make each other laugh, but I wish there were more heartfelt moments between the two. I liked how the characters in the previous story that I loved were also a part of this story. It was good getting more of Kasia, Brand, Skylar, Ladon, Angelik and Arik, even though Angelik and Arik only made an appearance at the end of this story. I disliked how Meira and Samael spent most of the book looking for King Gorgon. There were also parts of the story that I thought were too descriptive and it made some parts of the story seem slow. However, the ending was full of action and it definitely left me wanting to read Angelika and Airk’s story. I’m wanting to know how she will break down his walls and get him to agree with her, and I can’t wait to read how she does it.

I came into this series with this book and though it referenced some things in the previous two books, it stands on it’s own merit as an original dragon shifter novel. The characters were strong and vivid with an intriguing storyline!

I think this is my favorite of the 3 so far. Meira and Samael are great together even when they are not really together. Meira is smart and I loved that she a techno. Sam was stuck between love and loyalty. Each of them were fighting the mate pull to try to do the right things. Story was fast paced and we see some characters from the past books. The dragons and phoenixes are coming together to face the big bad and suffering with some losses along the way that were heartbreaking.

The Warrior King (Inferno Rising, #3) by Abigail Owen
This is a great series Samael and Meira’s story. We catch up with old friends, family and enemies there is danger, evil “Red King”, angst, strong feelings, mystery (some solved, some still needing solving), laughter, tears “ugly” and some happy and plenty of steam to get us to a very HEA. I am hoping Airk and Angelika will get a story and solve the last mystery.

What would you do if the woman you can’t stop thinking about, the woman your dragon wants, is marrying your king? If you are Samael, intent on doing what is right, you step aside and you hope the hurt goes away.
Meira has always done what is right and in order to unite the Blue, Gold and Black Dragon clans, the Black Dragon King needs to mate a phoenix. Months go into the planning of the mating ceremony. Meira doing what is right, even if she has dreams of another. Samael keeps his distance because he can’t bear to watch the woman he dreams about marrying another.
After the exchanging of formal vows, Gorgon (the Black Dragon King) and Meira return to his chambers to begin the mating ceremony. What is the one thing we have learned in all the books? If the phoenix does not choose the mate completely, the dragon will go up in flames.
One kiss is all that is exchanged before he goes up in flames, but just as he is dying something happens…. Yikes…not going to tell you but something happens! Samael races into the room, takes a look at the situation and fulfills his promise to the king, keeping the queen safe. Next thing you know they are teleporting through the mirror and on the run!
Samael is a warrior through and through, duty and honor are not just words but a way of life, a code. He has lost his king and is with the woman he dreams of, lovely, logical, scientific, Meira. These two have a hard path in front of them.
This book is filled with lies, betrayal, treachery, pain, and loss. I will be honest, I teared up at the end of this book, my heart broke, and then slowly started to mend.
The war with the Red false King is coming to a head and the battle has just begun. The Warrior King is filled with suspense, twists, and turns that will keep you guessing, characters I am completely invested in, and another swoon-worthy mate match, Samael and Meira are simply perfect for each other. This book and series gets my recommendation!

THE WARRIOR KING is the third book in the Inferno Rising series, and this time it is the time of the Black Clan and Meira. She has promised herself to Gorgon, the King of the Black Clan before she realised that Samael was her mate. Of course, she has been told for years that phoenixes can choose and so she doesn’t have quite as much faith in the whole ‘fated mates’ thing as others do. Samael, on the other hand, does believe in fated mates, but he also believes in loyalty, and so he refuses to do anything about it when Meira is with Gorgon.
This was an amazing addition to the series. I thoroughly enjoyed books one and two, but this one? This one blew them right out of the water! And I don’t know why! I know it sounds like I’m disappointed, I’m not. I just wish I could say more clearly WHY I thought this one was better. Is it because I ended up in tears over the death of a faithful friend? Maybe. Is it because of the sensual, slow-burn, forbidden love romance between Samael and Meira? Possibly. Or maybe it was the intermingling of technology and magic? Could be.
Whatever the reason, I was fully engrossed in this story, fully invested in whether Samael and Meira would end up together, and even though I hoped that would be the case, I was desperate to know HOW they managed it.
Although this finishes with a HEA, it also gives us a teaser for Angelika. Bless her, I don’t think she’s going to have it easy either. I really can’t wait for this series to continue.
Absolutely amazing and highly recommended.

Warrior King is the 3rd book in the Inferno Rising series and I have to say my favorite so far. I loved both Meira and Samael so much! They have this strong sense of duty that both choose duty over their own heart. Meira offered her hand to the King of the Black Clan to assist in the revenge against King Pytheios, who murdered her parents. Samael Veles had pledged his life and loyalty to the very king that Meira had wed, and his dragon is not happy. Samael may have found his mate, but his loyalty to his king will not allow him to claim her. But as they are on the run together to try to figure out what happened to their king, their attraction and their mating bond could no longer be denied.
Meira and Samael’s story was such a joy to read, in their hearts they knew they belonged together but it was duty over love until they could not fight it. The story is action packed and there are some twists and turns that definitely had me turning the pages. Overall, a great read and looking forward to reading the 4th phoenix sister’s story.

Killer Quidditch!
The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance:
Heat/Steam:
Story/Plot:
World building:
Character development:
The setting: Mount Ararat, Turkey-Black Dragons; Mount Everest, Nepal-Red Dragons; Ben Nevis, Scotland-Blue Dragons; Store Skagastølstind, Norway-Gold Dragons; The Andes, South America-Rogue Dragons; Gargoyle Castle-Hidden
The Hero(s): Samael Veles – worked hard to make it from his meager beginnings to the Captain of the royal guard of the Black Dragon Clan though he doesn’t have royal blood. The Black King Gorgon trusts him above all others.
The heroine: Meira Amon – one of the quadruplets of the last Phoenix. Both her mother and father were killed by the Red King. She has promised to mate with the Black King Gorgon who seems to be a very good person. However, at the time of mating, if the mating is not approved by the fates or one of their hearts is not in it, the flames of the Phoenix can burn the Dragon King to ashes (not totally unfair because most dragons mate with human women and the human women can similarly be burned to ashes by Dragon fire).
The Love Story: Samael first sees Meira when she is using one of her special Phoenix powers. She is able to use any mirror as a sort of two way mirror that she can see through and she is also able to turn it into a portal. She was looking in a mirror at an event that one of her sisters and her husband the Gold King were having when Samael saw her in the mirror. He shouldn’t have been able to see her but he did and immediately knew she was his fated mate. Though Phoenix’s are for mating with Royalty so he knew he could never have her.
I have been waiting for this one. I love this series. It is about Six Kings and only one can be the High King. That is the Dragon Shifter King that mates with the Phoenix. In order to become the High King, the Red King killed the Phoenix and her Mate. However, the Phoenix (and there has only ever been one at a time), had quadruplets whom she hid from the Red King. Two of her phoenix daughters have already mated to the Gold King and the Blue King in the first two books.
I have to say, I am in love with the covers of these books, but I don’t understand why the first one was red if it was about the King of the gold dragon clan and this one was green when it was about the Black clan. The second was blue, which was correct as it was about the King of the blue clan, so I guess I just wish the colors were more reminiscent of the books themselves.
The character development and story were great as well. It continued the saga of the Evil Red King trying to remain High King and rule over all the dragon shifters. He is undated and has lived far beyond his years for an undated dragon and he is rotting away. However, he has a witch that has helped him stay alive by feeding off other supernatural creatures. I like that these books are standalone within a series and even though there is an overlying story going through the books. Abigail Owens does a great job at making these so you can easily pick up the new one without having to reread the last books. You can even pick up any one and start from there, though I would read the series from the start. I loved every book.
Lastly, I loved the fight scenes with the dragons. It was like a game of killer Quidditch with all those souls flying around in the sky trying to best each other. Great stuff and it looks like the next book is shaping up to be the best of the bunch!
I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.
Loved being back in this world, Abigail Owen did not disappoint. You will be on the edge of your seat while you are reading. This book is full of action, suspense and romance. Definitely a must read and I can not wait for the next book in this series. Abigail Owen is a definite one click author for me.

She may be a Phoenix and daughter of the past king of the White Clan, but she has no power…does she?

nother great book in the series!

I received an ARC copy on Netgalley for my honest review.
What a fantastic addition to the Inferno Series! Samael and Meira’s tale is fraught with danger, heartache, and sacrifice.

Archaeolibrarian – I Dig Good Books!
