As darkness falls after sunset, the corelings rise — demons who possess supernatural powers and burn with a consuming hatred of humanity. For hundreds of years the demons have terrorized the night, slowly culling the human herd that shelters behind magical wards — symbols of power whose origins are lost in myth and whose protection is terrifyingly fragile. It was not always this way. Once, men … and women battled the corelings on equal terms, but those days are gone. Night by night the demons grow stronger, while human numbers dwindle under their relentless assault. Now, with hope for the future fading, three young survivors of vicious demon attacks will dare the impossible, stepping beyond the crumbling safety of the wards to risk everything in a desperate quest to regain the secrets of the past. Together, they will stand against the night.

I enjoyed the development of the characters in book one and how they tie into and continue to build in the second book of the series. Sometimes it felt like far too many characters but that didn’t last long. The story and theme was captivating.
I bought the first book used. I bought all the rest new.
One of the greatest series on the market. All books are available too so no waiting for the next one. Great story!
A new take on an old story
Loved reading this book
The trials of life, where life has faded away to that of simply existing. Then realizing that your life needs to be fought for, and made into something meaningful. Then when death come to take you in the night, and you find yourself unwilling to go down without a fight… who knows, maybe you will find the will and the way to survive and become …
Very well written. I enjoyed the story and the development of characters
Peter V. Brett reminds me of the writings of Raymond Feist. Very well developed characters, I was immersed in the Demon Cycle Universe and couldn’t put it down. A dangerous book to pick up and open!
a great read
Original concept-good character development
Really intricate world building, immersive
Loved this series The only thing wrong with it is that it ended.
I don’t leave reviews. This deserves the exception. Very well written, original take on the theme. Left me wanting more.
One of the better stories I’ve read in the past ten years. Up there with Brandon Sanderson and Brent Weeks. Great storyline.
One of the best books I have ever read! I am 68 and have been reading many years and without a doubt [get this book].
Loved this book. The entire series is incredible! I will definitely read this book many times and not tire of it.
Good fantasy and the books that follow are are also very entertaining.
Like nothing I’ve ever read before. It was a little slow getting going at the beginning but then it became much faster paced. The characters were very realistically portrayed, and it was a very good read.
