The Waratah Inn is the first book in Lilly Mirren’s Waratah Inn series. Sisters Kate, Bindi, and Reeta gather for their dear Nan’s funeral at her beloved Waratah Inn. When the sisters, who have become distant in their adult years, inherit the rundown inn the question is whether to renovate or sell. They begin the renovation process when an offer is made on the property. The offer makes the question even more stressful, so will they rehab the inn or sell it to a developer? The other question is how much of Nan’s journals were accurate? And if they are true accounts, what does this mean for them?
This lovely story with such warm and endearing characters explores the relationships between siblings and the discovery of past secrets turning what they thought they knew about their grandmother and father was way off target. The Waratah Inn is a lovely exploration of family dynamics and emotions. I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it!
I really enjoyed reading this book. Romance, family stories, and remodeling an inn. Sisters working together. Making decisions about life and resolving issues.
Beach stories. The characters were well done.
Kate is at that point in her life…she’s re-evaluating
her choices…then she learns that her beloved grandmother has passed away. When Kate returns home, she discovers that she and her sisters have inherited her grandmother’s inn. Now it’s up to the sisters to carry on with the Inn. Kate discovers her grandmother’s diary, which reveals family secrets. Will her grandmother’s insight help Kate to decide what’s next for her life? Beautiful story. Love the great relationship between the sisters and looking forward to the next book.
This is the first book in The Waratah Inn Series, a women’s fiction. Three estranged sisters, Kate, Reeda and Bindi, are called back to their hometown when their grandmother died. This first book is centered around Kate’s story. This is a beautifully written story. I loved it! The back and forth, from her Grandmother’s past, and Kate’s present, is well done and fascinating. The storyline is original, and filled with secrets, and intrigue. The scenery is wonderful. Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Series, One Summer in Italy, Reeda’s story. I can’t wait to know what will happen next. Brigid Lohrey did a geat job with the narration. She has a beautiful voice.

Kate and her two sisters come home to the Waratah Inn. Not the happiest of circumstances, the death of their grandmother gives the women the much needed bonding time that they have missed. Now there are questions regarding the Inn and it’s future. Will the sisters keep it? This book features Kate, and she has come from the rat race, finding that she is enjoying the slower pace this life would give her. Caught up in relationships she needs to make decisions that will make her happy. Kate also finds secrets about her family that without being at the Inn would never have come forth. It’s a fun, family filled adventure and while ending on a cliffhanger, Kate’s story was very warm and satisfying. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next!
Brigid Lohrey gives a good narrative to the story. Her accent gives us the authentic feel of the area and her voices for the characters are enjoyable. Her pacing is a little slow, but the story flows and it’s very entertaining.

A good woman’s fiction of three sisters gaining their grandmother’s legacy, an inn and getting more than they bargained for: a stronger sisterhood, new starts, and finding secrets. I really enjoyed reading this beautifully written story, the characters are well developed and I would highly recommend it.
An excellent read set in a coastal town in New South Wales.
When their beloved Nan passes away, Kate and her two sisters are faced with a dilemma. Do they sell the run-down Waratah Inn where they spent many happy times during their childhood, or do they keep it?
While deliberating, Kate discovers that there are quite a few secrets in her Nan’s past which none of them were aware of.
Well written, and a real page-turner which I can thoroughly recommend.
I loved this book! The characters and story seemed so real at times that I just couldn’t put this novel down! If you love contemporary fiction with well-done dual storylines and clean romance then I highly recommend this book to you!
The Waratah Inn is the first book in a new series.

Final Rating: 5 Stars
This is a well written book that holds your attention from beginning until the end. A wonderful start to a new series. I can’t wait to read book two. I received an ARC copy of this book and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
An intriguing, spell-binding story!
Three sisters are called to come to the Inn where their grandparents finished raising them after their parents died. None of them had been back very often, after pursuing their jobs; but all were determined to go back, when they heard their grandmother (Nan), died. Kate was head chef and beginning a change of menu, which she was excited about. Then she was called to the phone, and heard the news. Dropping everything, she turned things over to the sous chef and let the owner know she was going to leave, and wasn’t sure how soon she could return. She was the first of the girls to arrive. There is so much they learn, as Kate finds Nan’s journals, then begins to share what she read. After Reeda and Bindi arrive, they are all reeling with the information, and the waiting. Soon, each realizes they haven’t kept in touch with each other, never-the-less their Nan. They begin to make up for that, during the wait.
This book drew me in immediately, and I found it to be mesmerizing and somewhat complex, as they discover things. Lilly Mirren is a good writer, and I never was wanting to put it down for very long. I highly recommend this book, and look forward to additional book in this series!

A beautiful written story. Three sisters return to their grandmother’s bed and breakfast after her passing. Ms. Mirren tells about several generations of family ties. These sisters grew up with their grandmother at this Inn. They learn somethings they did not know. This old bed and breakfast is falling apart. Will they sell or will they try to bring it back to its glory? Can the three agree on anything? All three sisters live in other towns and have other lives.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book , but was not told that I Had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
A lovely start to this series revolving around three sisters who have lost their focus on their busy lives, the inn their grandmother left them and her journals that open up a past that will need some looking into. As the story melds between the grandmother’s journals and present day, this emotion filled story will have you anxiously turning the pages. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
This is a rich family drama that will span more then one generation with a beautiful told story that will take you a journey. As Kate and her sisters discover things about there family and beloved Nan who has passed away.
Kate has come home to Cabarita Beach to attend her Nan’s funeral and to sell her beloved Waratah Inn but she soon discovers that returning to her life in the big city may not be set in stone she’s not the only one who owns the Inn her sister’s do as well. She will have to make peace with them while fixing up the Inn and discover who her grandmother was threw her journals and just what sadness she carried with her.
I can’t say enough nice things about this book with love and loss the description of the Australian coast it was very vivid and you could imagine yourself there can’t wait for the next book.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
The Waratah Inn is a complex, emotional family saga. The sisters are each quite complex. We learn more about Kate than anyone else in this book. We also begin to learn the grandmother’s story. The wonderful story is told in present (1995-1996) time and flash backs to World War II. This book quickly grabbed my attention and would not let me go. I enjoyed the saga and the complex, well drawn characters.
Love and Life on the Australian Coast
This is a wonderful bit of women’s fiction. Be aware that it takes 3 books to complete the whole story. This episode is about how several generations of women lived and loved and dreamed. It is emotionally quite heavy. The description of the beach and the seasons makes the reader able to imagine it all in great detail. I greatly enjoyed this book and this is my honest opinion.
