Excellent story. Mystery, suspense, drama, crime, suspense and so much more. She is forced into a marriage to a evil old man who wants to run her life completely. He is murdered and it looks like she did it, but another man who likes her and his friends are committed to proving she didn’t do it. I loved it and highly recommend it. Miss Henrietta Reapson’s cruel, controlling father arranged for her marriage to Viscount Chaucer, a man 15 years her senior. Rude and inconsiderate, Lord Chaucer tried to immediately get her to leave without thanking their guests. He gave her 3 minutes to say goodbye – then he left her and went out to his carriage. When she returns, he hits her and threatens to hurt her more. He’s very controlling, cruel, and abusive.
When Lord Chaucer gets drunk after the wedding breakfast, she then went to the library and collapsed on the floor and wept. She discovered she wasn’t alone, but another guest unaquainted with the bride and groom witnessed her crying. After talking freely for hours with Newton gained get trust. He is a man once wrongly accused of crimes he had not committed but later received a full pardon and restitution when the truth was discovered.
After the breakfast, Francis returned to his own townhouse in London as his dear friend Viscount Wickton joined him. Francis told him how worried he was about Lady Chaucer’s situation and they decide to visit the couple and ensure she was all right.
The butler at Chaucer’s residence, extremely nervous and frowning, would not allow them to see Lord or Lady Chaucer, claiming that she was ill. Lord Wickton came up with an excuse and they walked into the house to look for her, despite the butler and footmen trying to stop their search. In the dark library, he opened the dark curtains – and saw a man’s arm on the floor. He found Lady Chaucer unconscious and drugged in a chair, horribly pale, with a bloody knife on her lap. The man was dead. Believing her to be innocent, he ran out the side door with Lady Chaucer to save her reputation. Wrapping her in a sheet, he told Lord Wickton’s startled footman and driver to take her back to his townhouse. Who wanted her blamed for murder?
Can they solve the mystery???
Rated 4.5 stars- some things were not realistic. Why did Newton go to such lengths for a complete stranger? Why was her husband so cruel in front of strangers? Usually narcissists want to appear benevolent in public and are cruel in private.
Fast-paced, intriguing, and interesting! Not a sweet romance, due to the violence and cruelty of her husband.
This little mystery is quite strange, and the evil that her father and Lord Chaucer contrived is beyond means. The arrogance of Lord Chaucer is unbelievable and the fear he instilled in his servants is ridiculous. Not all of his servants could be loyal enough to cover up crimes by his Lord of this magnitude. The characters are well-developed, but I felt this story was a little bit over the top.
This book was a real pleasure to read with the wonderfully written storyline and interesting characters that kept me totally engaged throughout the entire book!

Well written historical romance and mystery. Nice storyline and plot. Characters well described and they develop nicely through the story. They are likeable.
A mix of secrets, mysteries, murder, emotional ups and downs, danger, drama, friendship relations and twists makes this an entertaining and enjoyable read.
I like the personalities and how they develop.
Recommendable to others who likes their romances spiced with a bit of mystery.
This story was so good, the mystery of this story was so good. I was so confused when The Viscount showed up again I was so shocked. I love how Mr. Newton and his friends jumped in and helped her they were so awesome. This was a very well written story, with mystery and intrigue.
Very well done!!

Great storyline, definitely a page turner, with an interesting plot. Horrible father with no love for his daughter, makes her marry a nasty man. Strangers that are kind, compassionate and very understanding help her survive. Some places tend to repeat details 2 to 3 times, which wasn’t necessary, that’s why 4 stars instead of 5. Definitely worth reading!

A Regency with dark twists! A groom dead on his wedding night! But where did the body go? This mystery will suck you in as well as the romance that starts after her wedding! Who can be trusted? What really happened and who killed him? A great addition to the series! I cannot wait for the next book.

Regency Era Murder Mystery
The mystery of the “whodunit” set in the Regency Era. A lady framed for murder, and an admirer who is determined to prove her innocence.
It should be noted that there is evidence of a lot of emotional and physical abuse directed to the women of the story. There are also very violent parts depicted, although there is nothing sexual in the book. That aside it is a very interesting story, very gripping and intriguing as you try to solve the mystery along with the characters.

An extremely satisfying PG13 one-day read with a VERY complicated plot set in Regency England. Henrietta is the unloved second daughter, but to say any more would be a spoiler.
