A sweet, fun and well written read. I liked the mix of drama, danger and mystery. Likeable characters and true to the time period.
This was a clean, sweet, romantic mystery. Viscount Oliver Patton unexpectedly died, leaving his soldier brother Joseph as the new viscount. Joseph discovers he’s up to his ears in debt and is pretty much penniless. He also needs to find a wife to produce an heir, but is too poor to do this. I loved Lady Hannah Marlstone’s character, but I loved her aunt, Lady Martha Baroness Dalton’s character more. The end of the story brought some unexpected twists. It was fast paced and quite interesting. I loved this story!

I adore Ms. Alec’s style of writing. Her books are sweet, enjoyable to read and always introduces something extra special. In this book, it’s a mystery with some twists, turns and a building romance.
I was drawn in from the opening words. The plot continued to thicken as new characters were introduced. The romance was woven in quite nicely.
Quite simply, it was another wonderful book!

Joseph, Viscount Patton returned to London after his brother Oliver, Viscount Patton fell to his death in the Thomas River. He found the estate in terrible financial difficulties because of poor financial management by his brother. When he went to tell one of the tenants of a property he intended to sell he met Lady Hannah Marlstone who had been thrown out of her home by her brother after her father’s death. When Joseph meets Hannah he cannot sell the property. There is just enough romance, mystery and suspence in this enjoyable book by Joyce Alec to keep the reader’s interest. A real page turner.

I loved this story. The heroine is a woman who knows what she wants and even when her brother throws her to the streets she finds a way to survive. Lord Patton is a second son and he is very timid, but his new friend, Lord Fernley insists that Oliver was murdered. Lord Fernley is a kick. He is rambunctious, overbearing and extremely excitable. His mouth runs off at the wrong places and times. He is probably the best character in this story. It is Lady Hannah that brings Lord Patton out of his shell, and she pushes him to reveal his feelings so that she is not wondering if she has a chance with him.
I like this story It is well written and quite and engaging read. Takes you on a journey through their relationship with stupifying scenes and challenging scenarios.

This is about Viscount James Patton, who’s brother was either murdered or died an early death. He was trying to get to the bottom of this mystery. Lady Hannah ,who was living with her aunt as her companion, after having to leave her brothers home because she wouldn’t marry who he wanted. Will she help him solve the mystery? This is a good clean story and I highly recommend reading this book.

This was a mystery romance that took me a little while to get into. The prologue was catching and had me reading to find out exactly what happened. Lord Patton became a lord by default. I felt like there was a lot of information about his lot in life, but not much about who he was as a character. Lady Hannah was introduced later in the book and that is when the plot thickened and became more interesting. Lady Hannah came from a difficult background, but she was able to stand tall and proud of who she was. The mystery surrounding the death of Lord Patton’s brother was great. I’m not a specialist on mysteries at all, but I really enjoyed that part of the book. The added bonus of another romance brewing in the book was also a treat. Overall, this was a good book to read to pass the time and try to figure out who-done-it.

Joseph inherits the title of Viscount Patten after his brother Oliver drunkenly falls into the Thames. Lord Fernley was with him right before he died and believes he was murdered. Joseph discovers Oliver lived beyond his means and has left him in debt and with too many houses one of which is being leased to Lady Hannah Marlstone and her widowed aunt Baroness Martha Dalton. Hannah and Joseph discover they might have a connection to his brother through Viscount Walton, a man who her brother Phillip tried to force her to marry to settle a debt, who was there when Oliver died. Was Oliver murdered or was it an accident? Is Lord Walton behind it or someone else? I loved that there were two romances in this story: between Martha and Lord Fernley and Hannah and Joseph. Nice Regency romance with plenty of intrigue that kept me guessing until the end.
I absolutely love this book. It was an enchanting story. I cannot recommend it enough. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book in exchange for a free copy.
Another quality book from Joyce Alec. She hits her stride in this Regency romance that mixes romance and mystery into a concoction that is both satisfying and rewarding. A very good read.
Oliver, Viscount Patton, was downing yet another drink to forget Mrs. H, who had disappointed him, while his friend, Lord Fernley, tried to talk him into stopping. Although Lord Patton would often drink to excess, Lord Fernley was worried that this time there was something more going on. Lord Patton got up to leave but motioned Lord Fernley to sit back down, he would not be needing his company where he was going. He left and Lord Fernley paid their tab at White’s and decided to walk home. He heard a scream and a woman said her companion slipped over the rail and fell into the water. She did not know his name – he was her “customer” – but she said he was very drunk. Lord Fernley described Lord Patton and the woman nervously confirmed that he was the man she was with who just fell into the Thames.
Joseph, the new viscount after his brother’s death, was not yet used to the title when his butler called “Lord Patton” to get his attention. The accounts he had requested had finally arrived after waiting 8 months to review his brother’s finances. It soon became obvious how badly his brother had neglected the estate and his tenants. He discovered his brother owned 5 estates, so he asked that they be sold and anything of value also sold. The solicitor suggested he find a lady with a large dowry, but he ignored the man. Curious about Lady Hannah Marlstone, apparently now his tenant renting one of the houses, he made arrangements to meet her and let her know she would have to leave at the end of the year when the lease expired.
Reaching for a brandy, Lord Patton was interrupted by the butler who said Lord Fernley wanted to speak with him. Lord Fernley was troubled by suspicions that Joseph’s brother was murdered, not an accident or suicide.
Lady Hannah is living with her Aunt, who acts as her companion, in London. Her brother had tried to force her to marry someone she was not interested in. When she refused, he threw her out of the family home. Her father had fortunately made sure she had money of her own that no one could touch, so she was able to rent Lord Patton’s townhome. When she meets Joseph, there is an attraction. She wants to help him solve the murder of his brother. Will they be able to resolve all of the problems they face? Will they find out what really happens with Lord Oliver? And how will Lord Fernley become involved?
I loved the mystery involved in this story. With all the other things happening, it just amped up the suspense and kept things interesting! Grab your copy and sort out the issues to see how they resolve themselves to take us to a happy ending!
The twist at the end is phenomenal and comes out of left field! A great read! The intrigue and suspense in this romance is unexpected! The twists keep you off balance! Read it through in one sitting!
