Can Emily find the courage to save herself and give her heart to the man she truly loves?Miss Emily Smythe has loved Viscount Wickton ever since she set eyes on him. Having always been a quiet wallflower, she lacks the courage to tell Lord Wickton the truth about how she feels. However, Lord Wickton does not appear to be at all interested in her and, despite her sorrow, Emily decides that she … decides that she will have to allow Lord Davenport to pursue her instead.
Lord Arthur Wickton has always appreciated Miss Smythe’s acquaintance but has never allowed himself to consider his heart. When witnessing Lord Davenport’s callous treatment of Miss Smythe, Arthur finds himself suddenly determined to stop their courtship – only to suddenly find himself trapped and unable to get to Miss Smythe.
Has he realized the truth of his feelings too late? Can Miss Smythe find the courage and determination she needs to rescue both him and herself? Or will Lord Davenport prove the victor, despite their attempts?

Liked the story of Viscount Wickton and his sisters best friend Lady Emily Smythe. He promised his sister Charlotte he would look out for, but forgot about her. When he rembers and comes to London he finds her mixed up with an unscrupulous Lord. When he confronts the Lord he is kidnapped and held a prisoner until the wedding, but he realizes what his really wants.
Lovely characters and a nefarious scheme. Will the beautiful lady be trapped, never to find happiness? Wonderful characters and storyline.
This story is delightful. Emily and Arthur are wonderful. Arthur is a little slow to realize his feelings, but knows that Davenport is not right for Emily. Emily is looking at spinsterhood, if she doesn’t attract a man soon. What hoops and lines that Arthur crosses to prove to Emily that Davenport is not worth her, doesn’t matter until Arthur can face his own feelings and what he wants from Emily.
Great book that you’ll love to read
I liked that the leading lady was a wallflower. Emphasis is placed too often on the outward appearance of people when it is the heart of a person that makes them beautiful.
I enjoyed reading it. A little different from the usual recency novels.
Locking up the opposition presents a challenge.

Once again Ms. Alex has written another sweet recency romance that will keep you entertained from the first page to the last. You will find yourself pulling for Emily and Arthur when there are those who are determined to keep them apart.

It was good but I was under the impression that these two had a past together but I didn’t read that, only hinted at a time. There is a murder mystery side to this Romance and at the end there is a blackmail of a deal struck and justice has been handled. This is the first time reading this author and I’ll look forward to read more in the near future.
Emily has loved her friend Charlotte’s brother Arthur for a long time. Arthur was so wrapped up in getting Charlotte married off he is oblivious to all around him. The Villain Lord Davenport steps in to try to win her for his wife. She’s a wallflower, so he thought no one else wanted her and her huge dowry. He planned to marry, have an heir then take his old bad devices.
Suddenly Arthur, Lord Wickton, realizes he cares for Emily, Miss Smythe.
Arthur is kidnapped and held against his will.
Read the story to see by who and why.
I recommend this book. It was very entertaining and a real page-turner.

The shy girl is smart and tough when she needed to be. The snake isn’t very clever at all. This clean story moves along at a nice pace. I think you will enjoy this book, I did!
This book is about Emily and Arthur. Emily is a wallflower and Arthur is her best friend’s brother. She has loved him since they first met. It takes a lot for Arthur to wake up to Emily’s affections because he just seems to be distracted by everything else. There is a bit of excitement including a villian and a kidnapping. The story moves quickly and I was hooked from the beginning. This is a pleasant story without all the tedious descriptions of what everyone is wearing.

A short fast read that is well written with misunderstandings, not believing in your self, kidnapping, a villain, and romance. I enjoyed reading how these two get their happy ending. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
$Emily Smythe was a wallflower who had a crush on Viscount Arthur Wickton for years, but he hardly noticed her until a fickle rake Lord Davenport took an interest in her. When Arthur tries to warn Emily about Lord Davenport he is kidnapped. Will he escape or will Emily find courage and rescue him? Another beautiful story by Joyce Alec.

Sweet story filled with missed and mixed signals. Poor Arthur while trying to do the right thing albeit a little to late he stumbles upon feelings he didn’t know he had. And Emily well she’s loved Arthur forever and has been too shy and afraid to let him know. Now we have our villains Emily’s poor excuse for a father and Lord Davenport an even poorer example of a gentleman. But thanks to Lord Davenports nastiness, when Author is put in danger Emily finds her backbone and saves the day for the man she loves.

Lady Glenister TOLD Lord Wickton to look after Miss Smythe but did he? No. Such is the background of this family-friendly tale which takes about a day to read.
