Miss Newton’s companion has married with two months of The Season yet to roll. This second half can be read in one LONG afternoon or split into several sessions. Delightful in any case with just a hint of villainy.

This book is about Lord Guthrie and Miss Sophia Newton. Lord Thackery (from book two) arranged to have Guthrie become Sophia’s chaperon. Thackery and his wife needed to get out of London for Lady Thackery’s health and wellbeing as well as for their honeymoon. Guthrie at first did not want to do it but when Thackery explained his circumstances, he reluctantly agreed. Because he had a dark past, he did not want Sophia to learn about it. Thackery also arranged for a new companion. For some reason Guthrie would not admit his interest in Sophia and kept her at a distant. He also did it because he did not want her tainted by his past. Sophia was always comfortable with Guthrie. But then Guthrie’s past came to haunt him and he became upset and was rude to Sophia. From that point on Sophia was icy cold to him. This pained Sophia as she had been feeling a growing affection for Guthrie. She decided to do her best to ignore him and enjoy her season. Then the devil incarnate appeared. Lord Cardan. Lord Cardan had a large part in why Guthrie had kept a secret from Sophia. Cardan set his eyes on Sophia and Guthrie tried to warn her off without disclosing why. This did not deter Sophia. Although, after spending some time with Cardan, she became uncomfortable. Finally, Guthrie told Sophia about his past. She did not reproach him, she did not reject him and she did not turn away from him. Instead she opened her heart and told him what she felt. Guthrie could not speak and reveal what he felt for her as well. In the meantime, they continued going to ton events and found out that Cardan had no given up on pursuing Sophia for his wicked ends. There is danger in store for Sophia and Guthrie must face his past in order to help her. Another excellent romance.

A very well written historical romance. Great storyline and plot. I like the characters and that the story is clean. There is an amazing chemistry and passion. A story about how to confront your past and take what you want to get your HEA.
Absolutely a captivating mix of drama, love, anger, romance and strong characters.
I can only recommend it to others.
This was a great story, clean and romantic. I loved Sophia and how she wasn’t afraid to show her love. I like to see strong women not mousy women that do everything they’re told and get used and walked on. This was one of my favorites so far!

A well written, sweet and clean historical romance that is a stand-alone story with likable characters, some you may of met in previous stories. Hector was shamed and disgraced 5 years previously because he divorced his wife who cheated on him, and divorce was considered shameful. Sophia was in her first season in London and in need of a chaperone Hector was asked to due it. Their chemistry is intense and attraction mutual but Hector won’t chance tainting her. I enjoyed this Sweet suspenseful Regency romance.

Lord Thackeray and his wife wish to go on their honey moon so they ask lord Hector Guthrie to take on the responsibility of sponsoring his ward sophia
Hector and Sophia and Hector instantly like each other but Hector keeps his feelings hidden from her as he has had things happen in his past he isn’t proud of.
I like it how eventually they sat down and he explained things to Sophia. As thru a lot of the book he hardly speaks to her.
But I realize that is because he is trying to help her find someone other then him to court her.

We find in this story a Viscount with a sordid past, and his friend foisting his ward on him so his friend can go on his honeymoon. The problem is that he is already falling in love with Sophia, and this puts him in a tentative position. As in all good stories, the past comes rearing it’s ugly head in the form of one Lord Cardan. Here the the author does an excellent job of writing intrigue and secrecy into the story. It also deals with the intricacies of divorce in the Regency Era.
This is a sweet, easy to read, Regency romance. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sophia is an adorable heroine, content with herself. Hector is handsome, yet tormented by his past. Sophia wants to continue their friendship and Hector fears that it will turn in to more. Sophia can only hope. The reader will hope right along with her!
Although this is the third book in the series, it can easily be read as a stand alone.

Sophia Newton first appeared in The Reluctant Viscount as Simon’s cousin. Simon marries Sophie’s companion Clara and asks Lord Hector Guthrie to take over Sophia’s sponsorship so he can go on his honeymoon. Hector has divorced his wife, so I was surprised that Simon would want Hector take this on since he could taint Sophia by association. Hector is attracted to Sophia but he doesn’t think he is worthy of her and he is afraid to tell her about his past. But when Lord Cardin, the man who had an affair with Hector’s wife and caused him to divorce her starts to court Sophia, he realizes that he has to protect her from his evil intentions and that he can’t live without her. Sweet suspenseful Regency romance.
I received an arc of this book and was blown away at the story. it was so much more than i expected. I loved that the story had drama and suspense as well as romance and chemistry, and the way they are thrown together is clever, I love the way they both try to deny or push their feelings away, yet sometimes you can’t help who you love, and the turns of his past catching up to him, etc…its just clever and intense and fun. i loved it! will definately reread this book

Lord Guthrie is acquainted with Miss Sophia Newton, as he is a good friend of Lord Thackery (from the previous book), her cousin, with whom she is staying for “the season”. They have actually developed feelings for each other (via Thackery’s home, which makes me wonder if Thackery hoped it would end this way). When Thackery asks Guthrie to take over as chaperone for Sophia, Guthrie hesitates. He does not want to watch her meeting, talking and dancing with other men, but he has a shameful secret. He is divorced, and people just didn’t do that then. When he found his wife with another man, he could not stay in a marriage where each of them just did what (and who) they pleased. Now, after 5 years, he is starting to ease back into society, although people are still whispering about him. He doesn’t want that “stain” on his reputation to affect Sophia, so he maintains a distance from her. She is at first offended by that, but she keeps pushing him. She knows he has feelings for her.
When the man who cheated with Guthrie’s ex-wife returns to London, he’s as sleazy as he always was, and angry with Guthrie for making his indiscretion public.
Of course – misunderstandings, secrets, a bad guy, treachery, rescue, HEA.
I like that Sophia sets Guthrie straight about what is “good for her” and got him eventually to tell his secret so she could decide whether she could accept it.

A very entertaining and enjoyable story. Well rounded characters and story. It is fun, exciting, suspenseful, emotional and so much more. The Lady’s and the Lord’s they love and the journey to get there. I recommend it. I was given a review copy and voluntarily review it.
Wonderfully written story that captivated me right from the very first page and the characters were so well detailed that I remained totally enthralled until I finished reading the very last page!
I recieved this GREAT book free for an honest review. I loved this GREAT book about a young lady that was sent from Scotland to London to stay with her cousin during the season because in Scotland she didn’t have much of a chance to meet a man that would make her a good husband. The cousin had recently married and left her in the guardianship of his friend while he went on his honeymoon.
Following Lord Thackery’s marriage, he needed to entrust his cousin, Sophia, to a good guardian for the duration of her first season in London. Her new guardian has a past, but will it collide with Sophia’s future? This charming story is definitely well written. The characters feel authentic, and remind us of our ability to grow more than we think we can, and love beyond measure. It left me with a smile on my face and hope in my heart.
Lord Thackery, wanting to take his wife on their honeymoon, was trying to convince Lord Hector Guthrie to take over his responsibility of sponsoring his ward, Sophia Newton, during the last two months of the Season. If Hector refused and since both Hector and Sophia’s father have estates in Scotland, Thackery argued that Hector could simply escort her home to her father instead of helping her with this. But Thackery suggested that he would find a companion for her during the day and Hector would only have to chaperone her at the balls and make decisions about courting. After all, he reminded Hector, Sophia would be upset to have to return home so early in the Season. Hector had hoped to avoid the balls, but Thackery maneuvered him into the favor. Hector did request that Thackery not tell Sophia why others might look askance at him because of the shame of divorce when his wife cheated on him.
Things were a little awkward as Hector met an old acquaintance at the ball, one who had disappeared at the time he was going through the divorce and had not been back until now. Hector felt abandoned and betrayed by his friend and was not joyful to see him again. When Sophia asked if he was okay, he was a bit brusque answering her.
Hector found himself attracted to Sophia but had determined he would not take another chance on marriage after what had happened to him. Sophia could not stop thinking about Hector. But with neither feeling able to make their feelings known, would Sophia feel forced to accept other suitors? Was Hector willing to give her up without an effort to discover if he could open his heart again?
This book was so good, a combination of the strong, compelling characters along with the intriguing story line. The character development was done well, with the main characters clearly showing their values and kind natures. The reader wanted the best for them, because they are worthy of the best. It was definitely an emotional journey and very well handled by the author.
This is another great story from Emma Evans. Sophia is in London for a season to find a husband. In a previous book, her companion Clara, caught the eye of her cousin, Lord Thackery. After they marry, Sophia is in need of a chaperone. Thackery calls on his friend, Lord Guthrie, to be Sophia’s chaperone. Lord Guthrie is reluctant because of something that happened five years ago. Sophia had previously developed a friendship with Lord Guthrie, and with Mrs.Drake as her companion; she continues with her season. While she attends events and has a good time, her thoughts and feelings keep turning to Lord Guthrie, but he is pulling away The story moves along at a good pace and secrets are revealed for a HEA. I loved the characters in this book. I would recommend it and the rest of the series, but it can be read as a standalone.
