Didn’t want it to end
Quinn Lotus never fails at keeping me up till the wee hours of the morning trying to finish so I know what happens. Great characters and a plot with more twists and turns than a roller coaster. She always leaves me hungry wanting for more. It’s just the beginning of a new series! I am hooked.
Liked the characters, liked the plot, looking forward to reading the sequel.
Okay story line and characters but I hate to be left hanging at the end of a book without a clean finish. I won’t read another in this series.
Historical romance with humor! You will enjoy!
Loved this story!
Twist and turns that keep you going. The really nice thing is the emphasis on the proper way to treat women. Which of course can never be said enough times!
Loved the chemistry with the characters! Couldn’t wait to start the next book in the series
I hate when the purposely end so that you’ll have to buy the next book to see what happens. It wasn’t good enough for me to buy it
I’m so looking forward to the next in the series!
A great read! A little magic, evil and romance. Who could ask for more?
You really love to hate the bad guy in this story. He’s despicable and disgusting which makes the male protagonist that much more wonderful. The magical element also improves the story. I was disappointed on where the first installment ended; however, I’m looking forward to picking up where it left off.
I went into this book expecting historical fiction with some romance mixed in, and as a result I was very disappointed, because I only found predictability in characters and their relationships and absolutely no historical research. In this book, a Viking chooses the princess of England to be his bride. No time frame is mentioned, but if we put the Viking Age at around the 8th – 11th centuries, then England as we think of it did not exist as a settled and unified kingdom, which is the way it’s depicted in this book. The author didn’t seem to bother with making the setting plausible. The characters often drank tea (!), because I guess that’s what the author assumed every rich noble in England has always done from the dawn of time, but that wouldn’t have even been introduced in Europe yet, so it certainly wouldn’t have been a popular or accessible beverage. There were verbal anachronisms – characters spoke just like modern teens with words like “sure and “okay” in abundance. I can understand a degree of language adjustment to make this book readable for a younger modern audience, but some attempt to develop a time appropriate voice would have been nice. Because of the overall lack of research so obviously apparent, it seemed to be done from an inability to make the characters have authentic voices, rather than a conscious decision. Costuming was described almost as if we were dealing with the early 19th century when France would have pioneered fashionable but “less modest” women’s garments. I can’t imagine anyone saying in the actual Viking Age that something is “the style in France.” Also, I think it’s a nice thought that coming of age would have worked like it does now, with girls in the upper classes not being married off until they’re legally an adult at the age of 18, and the oldest daughter waiting to be betrothed until she’s 20, but that’s not how it would have been arranged for most women back then, especially among the nobility.
This book dealt more in romance and fantasy than history, so if I had picked it up with that expectation, maybe I could have forgiven the rest. Still, good books in those genres can remain true to historical settings (Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, Outlander, Shades of Magic all come to mind). I will say that the romance side is rather sweet, even if predictable, and the characters are likable…except, of course, for the villain who really is detestable as he should be. The villain is someone who exhibits classic abuser traits, like possessiveness, objectifying women, “marking” his victim with physical harm, putting on a good face for the public, etc. These behaviors do lead to good discussions between the other characters, male and female, about consent and supporting the victim as they understand her predicament and try to help her out of it. There is no victim blaming, or when a character seems close to judging a woman for her situation, the others quickly point out that it isn’t her fault and that the woman needs support and understanding instead.
If you go into this book expecting an easy and entertaining read, I think you’ll be happy. The writing is not at all great, but I liked the story well enough to finish it. Since I downloaded it for less than a dollar, and needed to get more books read quickly to finish my reading challenge, I don’t regret it. But I will say that it doesn’t resolve at the end, so if you want the full story you’d have to read books 2 and 3…and I’m not sure whether I can handle committing more time to this type of writing.
I love this YA Viking romance series!
I enjoyed the characters and the story.
Story ends in a cliff hanger. Can’t wait for the second book to come out.
An unusual period tale of free will versus fate. The characters hooked me right away.I found myself chuckling along with the side banter and waiting for feelings to sort themselves between interested parties. Cant wait for the next in series!
Excellent read with Happily Ever After presumably in the sequel in November.
A prophecy spoken, known by few, important to so many.
The son of an Oracle Torben, head’s off on his quest too win over princess Allete. The one prophesied to be his bride. Only to fall in love himself, and he’ll do anything to be with her.
She is betrothed to an arrogant, mean, man who hurts her, but her duty to marry him, form an alliance to save her kingdom and people, is strong. So, she tries to suffer in silence. However Torben can see she’s being hurt and it kills him, not to kill this pompous ass of a King where he stands, but he has to bide his time.
Meanwhile, Torben and Princess Allete get to know each other, stealing time together whenever possible and become more too each other than they ever imagined, or even thought possible. There love is so pure and perfect, it’s a pleasure reading about it. The book is not all, pleasure and perfect love. There’s ugliness, lying, cruelty.
Towards the end, Princess Allete ends up getting kidnapped along with her younger sister Dayna. You won’t believe who takes them, but Torben and his men have quite a fight ahead of them. Let’s hope Torben is up to the task after being injured badly.
Little do the kidnappers know, but Princess Allete is not without skills of her own, nor is her sister Dayna a shrinking violate. She is full of fire, brave and has quite a mouth on her.
This book is great, the love that’s grown between Allete and Torben, is sweet, pure and passionate.
This whole book is written with passion, from somewhere deep in the heart. Believe me, I hardly told you anything about what happens in this book, so much happens. It’s written so well, with everything coming together perfectly and reads so smoothly. I was transfixed on this book. It does end with with a cliffhanger, so to find out how thing’s end you’ll have to read the next book. But if there were 10 book’s, everyone of them would be worth reading. Author Quinn Loftis is magic when it comes to writing, truly magic. I’ve read other books by this Author and all have been amazing, I don’t think you can go wrong with this Author. This book is really a must read, your heart will just sing, open and take it all in. Yet don’t get me wrong it’s not mushy, it’s just quality writing that draws us in. It also has funny parts, that sister Dayna is a wild one.
You really don’t want to miss out on this story. All of you Author Quinn Loftis lovers, you know what I mean. Excellent, quality writing that doesn’t disappoint.
I received this ARC from the Author, however the review I did on my own and is my opinion after reading the book.
I just finished the first book…only to find I have to wait until November to get the next one! I loved the book. It was heartbreaking and I could feel the tension within myself as I read. It was funny and witty and had me laughing out loud at times. It definitely left me wanting more of the story and I hate waiting until November….but it is something to look forward to. This author really knows how to bring out the readers emotions. It is rare for me to find books that get me so completely involved that I feel all of the emotions so vividly. I highly recommend the book and I can’t wait for the final book!
