It was great to read a shifter story set in Australia; I love when the setting is of different continents, so we can get different cultures and ways…
Kit is an eagle shifter who is injured in an attack. Kit is brought to Errol, a vet that can communicate with animals through his magic. I really enjoyed this story. It had a mixture of everything, from fated mates, angst (my fave),hunters, drama, lust, heartbreak and all…
This book 4 in the series is just amazing! A wonderful twist in the fated mates topic, an amazing new installment on this series that can be read as standalone. The story has a very interesting plot, romance, magic moments, intrigue and danger and a happy ending. However, it also has some angst difficult situations that caused me distress and could be a trigger for some people so you’d need to be careful when reading it. A wonderful entertaining reading!
I love this series, and enjoyed Kit and Errol’s story. I love the world building, and that this story is set in Australia. I also liked that Kit and Errol weren’t sure how much of their attraction was magic, and how much was them, so needed to work through that as well as the danger of the hunters.
I liked the idea of a shifter who doesn’t want to shift, and would prefer to be human, and I liked Kit’s journey in embracing who he is, although at a terrible cost. I thought Errol’s power was very cool, although one very easily abused. The way he figures out how to communicate with Kit while he’s stuck in eagle form is very clever. I liked how Errol shows Kit how to calm his thoughts, and the description of how he shields himself from being constantly bombarded. I liked the realistic approach to powers in this series, and that there’s a down side as well. Ditto with the fated mate bond.
I liked the animals in the story, and their personalities, and how they help out Errol when he needs them. I liked Sam as soon as he showed up and figured there was a story behind his comments, so very happy his book is next in the series. The Coven is an interesting organisation, with a ruthless streak in order to keep the paranormal world a secret from humans. The bad guy was a nasty piece of work, and I liked how the animals dealt with the human hunter.
More please.
This was a very intriguing story. Some parts were slower than others. There were quite a few twists and turns which kept me engaged to the very end. Overall, I enjoyed getting to know Kit and Errol. I read an advanced copy of this book and this is my unbiased review!
The Vet’s Christmas Familiar by author TJ Nichols is the 4th book in the Familiar Mates series. I have not read the books in order and I was not lost at all. I found this story to be heartbreaking and sweet at the same time.
Kit is an Eagle shifter. He is not keen on shifting. He normally does not unless like today his family makes it a special thing and he has no way out of doing it. When he sees his entire family shot by hunters, he becomes stuck in his shifter form. Wounded and in need of help he bravely goes searching for it.
Kit might be young, but he is smart and so brave. I just wanted to hug him and tell him everything was going to be okay.
Errol is a vet. His magic allows him to talk to animals. When Kit is brought to him stuck in his shifter form at first Errol cannot understand why they cannot communicate. He wants to do what is best for Kit but how can he if he cannot talk to him?
Errol is a kind soul. His kindness shines throughout this story. He is a perfect match for Kit.
Overall a great story with memorable characters. I am looking forward to more from this series in the future.
Five Shooting Stars
A doctor who can talk to the animals and an injured hawk are brought together and magic happens. I just adored this book. Errol is healing from a divorce and Kit is set on recovering in order to get revenge on those who shot him and killed his family. They have to learn each others’ secrets and learn to trust each other and their relationship in order to heal physically and emotionally.
This was my first story by the author, I loved it!! Kit is an eagle shifter on a flight with his family when hunters shoot them all down. He gets help and is taken to a vet. Errol is a vet that has recently moved to town to get his life in order. He can also hear/speak with animals, but he cannot hear Kit. Badly wounded Kit struggles both mentally and physically. Kit and Errol eventually find a way to communicate with each other. I loved it, now I’ve got to go looking for the rest in the series! I received an advanced copy; this is my honest and voluntary review.
This was an interesting and emotionally gripping story, a bit different than the usual shifter books I’ve read. I liked the premises of a witch who could communicate with animals and I found it a bit ironic that his familiar/mate turned out to be the only one he couldn’t talk to initially. And there was Kit, an unusual shifter, who wasn’t well connected to his animal half…also ironically trapped in his eagle form at the beginning of the story.
The book had a lot going on. Cute and entertaining while Errol and Kit tried to communicate at first, but with serious undertones like Kit’s thirst for revenge and the problems with the hunters. The fated mates bond didn’t mean instant love, and I really appreciated that. Both Errol and Kit had a lot of issues to overcome, doubts and insecurities, and they had to explore those issues by themselves and together before they fully opened to each other. I liked seeing them as they slowly worked their way towards an amazing balance between both emotional and physical connection, making their interactions intimate and steamy.
I found this book a thoroughly enjoyable and well crafted read. Funny, tender, with just enough drama and suspense to keep me captivated, sweet and romantic….intriguing to the point I’m hungry for more in this world created by TJ Nichols.
I enjoyed reading this beautiful, slow-burn MM shifter romance that has an age-gap between the two main characters (Kit & Errol) who are quite complex individuals & they are surprisingly well-developed with amazing chemistry between them. The storyline flowed smoothly throughout a well-written plot which is set in Australia.
There is: an male eagle shifter (Kit Linfield) who is the sole survivor of his family that was murdered, a vet & male witch (Errol Hart) with a strong affinity to animals, helpful crows, cat shifters, wolf shifters, hunters/villainous villains, illegal hunting, murder, fated mates, bonds, familiars, magic, humour, drama, intrigue, suspense, some action, injuries, confusion, attractions, insecurities, anguish, anger, sadness, complications, danger, threats, conflict, violence, vengeful feelings, compromises, trust, some steam & a happy conclusion with a interesting end. I look forward to future books from this author & would recommend this book.
3.5 stars…The book was a quick read and mostly enjoyable though the pace is uneven and I wish there had been more character development. There were several books in the series before this book (which I have not read) so I am wondering if there was more world building in those.
The first half of the book seems to drag with little movement of the story arc. There is a shocking beginning and then kind of a lull and things bog down. Then towards the end we get some action but it is so anticlimactic and there isn’t a real resolution which made me feel like I’d been robbed. There is a whole lot left just hanging and I wanted a ton more detail. So I’d say a it’s a good sign I was invested but frustrating that I did it get a return on my investment. An additional issue is that both MCs struck me as indecisive and whiny. I just wanted to smack both of them at points.
However, the world here is interesting and the secondary action (for lack of a better term) is intriguing and entertaining. One of the secondary characters here is the subject of the next book and I was more drawn to him than these MCs so I am likely to read the next book, which is a positive reflection on this one.
**I voluntarily read an arc and this is my unbiased opinion.**
I appreciated the fact that I was able to read this book without having read the previous books in the series. I was on the hunt for all things Christmas, and this one sounded promising. I’m fairly new to reading books with shifters in it. By fairly new, I mean this is my second one. I found that I enjoyed it.
My heart ached for Kit, and all he went through. To lose your family in that kind of way is terrible. I don’t blame him for wanting revenge. I enjoyed the time he was stuck in eagle form, as he had to use Errol’s laptop to communicate. It gave it an interesting element while they were getting to know each other. Once Kit was able to shift back into his human form, it really got interesting. Who knew that this tragedy was going to bring him to his fated mate/witch’s familiar? That doesn’t make their path to HEA easy, though. They both have some things to work through, and talk about.
This book was well written. I enjoyed the characters, and felt like they were multidimensional. While this book was all fantasy, there was enough realism to the story that it was believable. I enjoyed the book, and look forward to reading more by the author.
***I voluntarily accepted a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews. My review reflects my own thoughts and opinions***
Four stars for this witch-shifter romance. Errol had a love of work to do to heal Kit not only of his physical injuries but also his loss. Kit had some very human thoughts toward Errol that gave this book a bit of humor and steam.
4.5 stars
It was great to read a shifter story set in Australia and I was drawn right into this one.
Kit is an eagle shifter who is injured in an attack. Kit is brought to Errol, a vet that can usually communicate with animals through his magic.
I really enjoyed this story. It had a bit of everything… fated mates, conflict, hunters, drama, lust, heartbreak and loss and hope.
Kit and Errol story was an interesting and entertaining experience. It teaches us about acceptance, about what greed and arrogance can to other people, and lastly about justice.
Kit looses all his family in a hunting in which he’s badly hurt and ends up being patched up by his mate. Errol is for Kit he’s dream come true, but he thinks he doesn’t deserves him. Errol retreated as a veterinarian after a failed relationship and is reluctant to being hurt again. He is attracted by Kit, but is afraid of being hurt and abandoned again.
Their relationship is a hard one in which both have their baggage and reluctance and being afraid of not being enough for the other. Even if fate deemed them mates they have to fight and to work to make the relationship worthwhile.
I liked the characters dynamic, the plot, the magic involved and the action and suspense this book provided for us.
I’m really looking forward to see what happens next.
