He kept his salacious secret for years. But soon, everyone is going to be reading about it in their morning paper… be. He’s got a secret, one that will tarnish his reputation forever.
THE VOYEUR (and the VARLET)
Josey Kavanagh is a self-proclaimed mess, but she’s finally get her shi…uh, act together. She’s set her sights on becoming a veterinarian, but there’s one teeny tiny road bump. Her living arrangements are coming to an abrupt end, leaving Josey homeless and in need of a job to pay her way through college.
THE PLAN
What he needs is a companion to keep him on the right path.
What she needs is an apartment with free rent.
Will is convinced Josey will make the perfect companion, since she’s brutally honest and basically ‘just one of the guys.’ Josey is convinced she can ensure Will doesn’t succumb to his voyeuristic proclivities by keeping a scrupulous eye on him.
Except, what happens when the varlet is tempted by the voyeur, and vice-versa?!
Perchance something very, very volatile. And vexing.
The Varlet and the Voyeur is a full-length romantic comedy novel, can be read as a standalone, and is the 4th (and last) book in the USA TODAY bestselling Rugby Series

4.5 ‘YOU’RE EVERYTHING’ STARS!
The Varlet and the Voyeur, is the final installment to the Rubgy series by the dynamic writing duo, L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid #sniff
Josey Kavanagh in plain words is simply a hot freaking mess! She’s awkward and has absolutely no filter what so ever, but she’s also trusting… At times too trusting which makes her somewhat naive. Even so, I absolutely loved her personality and the way Cosway and Reid penned her characteristics!
After getting the boot from her parents house Josey moves on to living with her best friend, Eilish and Eilish’s fiance, Bryan. This new living situation isn’t panning out, so a suggestion of a roommate comes up. And who better but William!
William Moore is the all American dream man on the Irish Rugby team. He’s quiet, laid back, and reserved. In fact, he’s a true gentleman, but he also has a secret that could ultimately ruin his career. Recon mode to fix the problem, Will feels living alone is a problem, so whom better to keep him in line but Josey… Or so he thought
This pair couldn’t be more opposite!! They’re like day and night, yet they mesh together perfectly. Between the two of them there’s a lot of weirdness, laughs, and pure genuine feelings. And you should probably watch out when these two get together, because hot damn was it hot and really sexy #yaasss
Once again I’m reminded why I love this duo. This book was so much fun and it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it sure as heck was mine! The Rugby series was one crazy, fun ride, and I won’t soon forget it!!
I love these authors work. They always writes smart characters, communicators, with realistic hot romances. She’s not afraid to make the woman the more sexually advanced either, and she doesn’t make this an ego buster for the men. I loved this one, I have so many highlights it’s crazy.
Josey, a college student, young unsettled and odd to most finds herself suddenly homeless. She needs to find a job and a place to live quick to support her education. After wearing out her friends couch she is pointed in the direction of a live in paid job. Her new boss, a hot rugby player who needs company/babysitter to keep him from his kink. Yep, he, Will has a kink and it as exposed and exploited in the media hurting his career and more. The two of them are opposites, which makes for fun, snark and much more.
So, so many laughs and great characters
Book 4 in The Rugby series, this can easily be read as a standalone. Though I read and enjoyed the previous books, it’s been quite a while and a LOT of books since then, so I came in with only hazy memories of the previous couples but didn’t have any trouble jumping into this. It did make me want to go back and re-read the previous books, though, lol.
Set against a rugby team background, the sport itself is pretty limited (to give you some background on where I’m coming from, I’ve never actually seen a rugby match, I just have a minimal knowledge of the sport based on reading different rugby-based sports romances over the last few years). it’s really the characters that drive the story here, and what a set of characters Will and Josey are! Endearing in their individual brands of awkwardness, I laughed and cringed (and related) by turn. I loved how well they fit together and watching their relationship evolve as the barriers between them come down in spite of their best intentions.
Lots of support and interest came from the secondary characters as well, in the form of those previous couples in addition to Josey’s parents and Will’s team, not to mention Josey’s dog, Rocky. I laughed at the competitive streak the guys displayed, while aww’ing a little at the protectiveness for their partners. And having owned a small diva dog myself, I could totally relate to Rocky’s shenanigans.
The one (relatively minor) thing I did feel was lacking was background on Will’s family. While we got a lot of Josey and her background with her parents, and we did get some info on Will, I just felt like like something was missing there.
With so, so many laughs and great characters, this was a highly enjoyable read and a great addition to the series. Now I’m off to do a binge re-read of the earlier books. 4.5 stars

5 “Wosey for the win” stars!
Oh this whole series by these two authors make me so happy. I loved every single one. I always end up with a big smile on my face once I finish the book. I was excited to read Will’s story. I’ve never read a book about a voyeur before so it was fun to see where that topic was going to go. Will had no shame in his voyeur game. He’s all this is me, and? He owned it and had rules, expectations and boundaries for it. Then there’s the adorable awkward rambling Josey. She’s the best! I loved these two together. They’re like ying and yang and are just so perfect for each other. Even though I’m sad this series is over, I hope these two keep writing books together. They are so entertaining and I can’t get enough of them.
“We were opposites on every way. Mismatched. If we were words, we’d be anotnyms.”
Penny Reid and L.H Cosway write beautiful endearing stories together that will make you feel, laugh out loud and most importantly believe that there is someone out there for everyone. They make the imperfect look perfect… their words are like magic.
William Moore *SWOON* I love his character so so much. He is sexy, alpha, adorable and vulnerable. The hot Irish player is a voyeur. However, when the journalists drag his name through the mud by making up trash stories about his sexual habits, Will needs to act and preserve the reputation of the team.
Will swept me off my feet BIG TIME!
Josey… she is super-duper!! She is endearing, sweet and has no filter. I simply loved her quirkiness and uniqueness. I would LOVE to live inside her brain! Her inner dialogue and interaction with Will had me in stitches the whole way through.
Josey needs somewhere to stay and a job…
Will needs a flatmate, someone that would keep him company…
“It’s Josey. She brings life with her- and light, and joy- wherever she goes, where before there was only silence and … absence.”
You see where this is going? Yes they will move together and it only gets better from that moment!
The Varlet and the Voyeur is a deliciously hot and endearingly sweet romance! I thoroughly enjoyed the blazing chemistry and hilarious verbal sparring.
L.H Cosway and Penny Reid writing is smart, witty, and priceless, and again I was blown away by their talent.
The Varlet and the Voyeur Loved these witty, fun, “take me away” sports romances co-authored by one of my all time favorite authors, Penny Reid and …whoever was lucky enough to write with her! OMG, they are all just like bonbons you can pop in your mouth and savor for hours. Get them all! 🙂
4 star Review The Varlet & The Voyeur (rugby #4) by LH Cosway & Penny Reid
AUDIO REVIEW
Having read all the previous books in this series I was excited to listen to the final book which was narrated by Paul Corning and Jennifer O’Brien, who are both new to me. There is somethng about a L H Cosway and Penny Reid collaboration that usually ticks all the boxers for me.
Paul Corning’s presentation was okay, although his Irish voice didn’t really do it for me and I could not connect to Jennifer O’Brien at all; to be totally honest, I was rather disappointed.
I liked the characters of William Moore and Josey Kavanagh and feel that if the narration had been more engaging, then I would have enjoyed this one a lot more.
The book itself, I enjoyed, it was funny and smoking hot, it’s just a shame that did not translate across to the audio.
Loved this book! Whole series was really well done.
Loved this book, the whole series really.
The Rugby Series hit me by surprise when I first listened to The Hooker and the Hermit and reading this final book is bitter sweet. I’ve wanted to know more about the American player on the team since William was introduced and his backstory does not disappoint. How the authors managed to create a character that so thoroughly embodied kink, guilt, and sensitivity is an amazing feat. I’ll admit, he was by far my favorite character in the book, but I did enjoy Josey as well. Their connection is sweet and intense and I wish that we got more stories in this world. Even if they leave the world of RLI, I do hope that Penny Reid and L.H. Cosway opt to coauthor more books for us in the future – they have definitely proven to be one of my favorite duos in just four books! 4.5 out of 5 wine glasses.
She’s there to rescue him and she does it in her own uniquely charmi ng way
So satisfying to get another book full of these hot, sexy Irish (although Will is American) rugby players. And Josey is delightfully awkward, charming, and absolutely wonderful! She’s the varlet to his voyeur. They’re both kinda clueless when it comes to relationships and they stumble a bit but the story delivers their HEA along with a big dose of steamy passion and charming awkwardness. I loved tbis book.
The Varlet and the Voyeur by Penny Reid and LH Cosway (Audiobook)
Narrated by: Paul Corning, Jennifer O’Brien
Series: Rugby 4
3 Stars – I was looking forward to Williams story as in the other books he seemed like a sweet man. I do wish they hadn’t made him a voyeur. That part of the story didn’t fit his character for me. Josie wasn’t my favourite character as she seemed very selfish in the other books. I liked her a bit more in this story, and she got on well with William. Together Josie and Will had decent chemistry and I am happy he got his HEA.
The narration was ok. Paul Corning did a pretty decent job, however I found Ms. OBrien seemed to read too fast and without emotion. She had a nice sounding voice which wasn’t unpleasant to listen to, so had she added a bit more emotion and slowed down a bit she would have been amazing.
~Paragraphs and Petticoats~
OMG I loved every second of this book and let me just say I want to be best friends with Josey . I laughed, cried and then laughed so hard I cried. This book was great , don’t let the taboo of Will being into voyeurism turn you off from reading this book , it is about so much more than that. YOu can not go wrong with reading this book. I have read everyone in this series so far and have to say this one is my favorite so far.
This book was good and a really nice ending to the series. I didn’t like it as much as books 2 and 3, but it was better than book 1.
I’ll admit, I had to look up the definition of both ‘voyeur’ and ‘varlet.’ Call me inexperienced but I had no idea that voyeurism is a thing! It weirded me out at first, but how the authors wrote William and why he partook in it, it kinda made sense. I’m really glad that he wasn’t continuing to do it in the present time of the story. I really liked how they wrote Josey’s reaction to it and how her moving in with him and their blooming relationship flowed.
Josey was an awesome heroine. I really enjoy the weird, oddball heroines who don’t fit the norm. I’ll admit that as soon as Josey said that she was once described as looking like a bug, all I saw in my head was bug face on a woman’s body. I had to go look up images of women with really big eyes and pick one to use in my brain when reading about her!
There’s a lot of sex scenes in this book. At least four, possibly five. All very detailed and multiple pages long. And all very steamy!
I liked the way of their feelings of love were finally expressed came about. It just goes to show that communication AND honesty in a relationship is key! I also really liked that once they admitted their feelings, the book wasn’t over yet. There was at least three more chapters and an epilogue and it all wrapped up perfectly! It was also really fun having the co-ed baby shower scene in the end with all four couples being present and happy.
Now if we could just convince Ms. Reid and Ms. Cosway to write Broderick and Ophelia’s story! I’ve been dying for more Borderick since book 2!
The Varlet and the Voyeur is the final book in the Rugby series—a collection of romantic comedies written by L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid that are intended to make readers fall in love with a bunch of Irish meatheads and the unique women who redeem them. Their efforts have been successful, by the way.
The shining star in this story is Josey. She is the very definition of a hot mess. She is socially awkward to the extreme, and I couldn’t wait to see what weird things would fly out of her mouth next. At least she’s gorgeous and just doesn’t know it, right? Isn’t that how things are supposed to go in rom coms? Well, Josey is fully aware that she’s no beauty queen. Her physical features don’t conform to normal beauty standards. She is wonderfully unique and the cause for at least one massively embarrassing moment of my uncontrollable laughter in public.
While I love the heroine, and the comedy is superb, the book didn’t quite click with me the ways some of the previous ones did. Essentially, I just didn’t buy the premise. I didn’t think Will did anything terribly scandalous for this day and age—certainly nothing that would require a 24/7 babysitter. He’s a nice guy and the relentless fallout from the “scandal” seemed over the top.
Will is overly noble, overly needy, and overly insecure. Vulnerability in a man is sexy, but all these “overly”s add up to a less than attractive hero. I really enjoyed the fun friendship between Josey and Will, and they have some great chemistry. However, the amount of restrictions they place on their relationship seems unnecessary. I’m not a huge fan of riding a drama llama, and there are so many moments that come across as much ado about nothing.
The romance is sweet, and is quite enjoyable if you can accept the surrounding drama. As always, the friendships among the rugby teammates are entertaining. If you need a bit of cheering up, this amusing book will do quite nicely.
Loved it!
I loved the entire Rugby series from L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid, but this book in particular was one of my favourites. The characters are strong, funny and unpredictable, and the story runs away with you like an Inside Centre on a breakaway (tee hee). This series is the perfect summer read!
The Varlet and the Voyeur (Rugby Book 4) by L.H. Cosway and Penny Reid is a standalone, contemporary, sports romance told in dual point of view. I have loved every book in the Rugby series and this one did not disappoint at all. This was such a fun read! It was funny, sexy, and touching with quirky, complex characters. When Reid and Cosway write together, they create absolute magic!
Awkward, self-conscious, talkative, nutty, veterinarian student Josey needs a job and a place to live after her parents inform her that they lost money in a bad investment, can no longer pay for her college and are selling the family home. So she temporarily moves in with her best friend, Eilish, and her rugby player, boyfriend Bryan.
Straight-laced, reserved, polite, rugby player Will has always had the reputation of a gentleman, a good guy. When a big secret gets leaked to the media, it creates a scandal that could jeopardize his career. Will needs to hire a roommate to be his personal keeper – somebody to live with him and help him stay out of trouble.
Eager to have his privacy with Eilish restored, Bryan suggests that Will hire Josey as his live-in companion. It seems like the perfect arrangement, meeting both of their needs. But when sparks start flying between Will and Josey, things quickly get complicated.
I loved this book! The characters were unique, the storyline was original. It made me laugh, swoon, and even cry. It was a truly fantastic read, deserving 5 stars.
The sexy rugby players are back!! And with them their awesome ladies!!
It is the time for Will The Brick House Moore to have his HEA! But oh boy, did he had to go through a lot to be really happy!!
He’s been the quiet, rule follower, respected, and highly private player or the team. But sadly, he had a problem reading others correctly. He has trusted the wrong people and he’s always ended up hurt. And this time it is hurting his career, his team and mostly, his reputation.
The problem: he was a voyeur. Well, that is not a problem IMHO, but some people would think he’s a pervert and that is when it became a problem.
The solution: he needs someone to keep him occupied, to give him a good kind of companion and to be completely truthful about his behavior so he won’t go doing his voyeuristic business.
And the perfect person for that job is Eilish’s best friend, Josey. She was the cute, inappropriate and completely honest girl who will save Will’s ass from going rogue.
And the perfect arrangement started. She was the perfect distraction for Will, with her constant talking and her cute dog and her awesome personality. And he was the perfect salvation for Josey, current situation.
But feelings started happening and rules started being broken and things got complicated. But….
And I will say no more… I suggest you read it and enjoy this hilarious and romantic book by yourselves. But what I can say is that I loooooved it, despite my annoyance with both main characters, they were absolutely awesome. I felt so related to Josey. I am so much like her. I don’t know when to shut my mouth and that was her main problem… though, it was what Will loved the most about her. He loved her honesty and cheerfulness and her shiny, and happy personality. And Will was so dreamy, a complete gentleman and the best friend, HE WAS WILL THE BRICK HOUSE MOORE!!! *sighhhhh* He’s got a great sense of humor and he always laughed off all the crazy comments from Josey. And of course, I loved the cameos of the couples from the previous books, they were amazing. I always enjoy seeing my favorite couple’s HEA.
100% recommended.
PS: The title of the book is P.E.R.F.E.C.T. for the story.
Reviews by the Wicked Reads Review Team
Angela –
Let me set the scene just a bit as I begin my review. Mere hours before beginning The Varlet and the Voyeur, I had finished a heart-rending coming of age romance that had reduced me to a snotty, sobbing mess. I blame this for why I didn’t pay any attention to the voyeur part of the title before cueing it up on my Kindle. In my head, I was reading the next Cosway and Reid novel or the next Rugby book, and because of that, I was hanging on every word with anticipation, fighting not to scan ahead as I waited to find out what Will had done that was so shameful and had him offering to quit the team to save their reputation.
So, when the word voyeur was finally uttered during the meeting, I was torn between wanting to purr “You dirty, dirty boy.” into his ear and wanting to pull up a chair beside him to watch. Honestly, I was rather surprised with how much shame people were trying to pile onto Will because of it. Had the book been set in America, it would have been completely believable because we’re quite prudish in how we look at sex. And while I cannot comment on Ireland’s sexual mores, I’ve always gotten the impression that Europeans were far more accepting – or perhaps I should say, less shaming – of others’ sexual kinks and such. While Annie’s explanation as to why the public was so ready to vilify him made sense, I was still taken aback by his teammates’ judgmental responses, especially considering some of their antics in the previous installments.
As for Josey, hahahahahahahahaha. Oh, I so understood why Will wanted her in his life and eventually fell in love with her. Her brain-to-mouth filter is nonexistent, and it makes for more than a few hysterically awkward conversations and scenes. I mean, Scrotum Appreciation Day… I nearly hurt myself laughing at that one. And because of that, I loved watching their relationship grow from employee-employer to tentative friends to friends with benefits, to falling in love with one another. The Varlet and the Voyeur was an absolutely delightful read I know I will enjoy just as much on future reads, but it and the accompanying laughter were the perfect balm to my bruised heart.
