Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year.
The tourists think it’s all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better.
Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs, fur, and all.
After seeing her maybe-mobster boss murder a guy, Delaney James … maybe-mobster boss murder a guy, Delaney James assumes a new identity and pretends to be a mail order bride. She finds her groom-to-be living in a town that celebrates Halloween every day. Weird. But not as weird as what she doesn’t know. Her groom-to-be is a 400-year-old vampire.
Hugh Ellingham has only agreed to the arranged set up to make his overbearing grandmother happy. In thirty days, whatever bridezilla shows up at his door will be escorted right back out. His past means love is no longer an option. Not if the woman’s going to have a future. Except he never counted on Delaney and falling in love for real.
Too bad both of them are keeping some mighty big secrets…

This is a great series to start if you like funny, light hearted paranormal romances. Fun and quick read.
A town called Nocturne Falls celebrates Halloween all year round and all of the creatures associated with the holiday live and work here too.
After Delaney accidentally sees her boss murder someone she knew she had to get out of town, and fast. She ends up inside of an agency for mail order brides and assumes the identity of a young woman being sent to Nocturne Falls to get married. Many surprises lie in store for Delaney as she realizes that the agency arranged marriages for paranormal creatures and that she’s on her way to marry a wealthy vampire.
This is a whimsical sort of story with likeable characters and a good story line. I enjoyed reading this book immensely.
Such a cute story! I really love the world of Nocturne Falls and have already started book two in the series.
In Nocturne Falls, Halloween is celebrated 365 days a year. Tourists all think it’s for show but the vampires, witches, and gargoyles are actually all real. After Delaney James sees her mobster boss murder someone she knows she needs to hide fast. She assumes the identity of a mail order bride and finds herself in Nocturne Falls, with vampire Hugh Ellingham.
This is such a light-hearted and fun read. I love the town of Nocturne Falls and its inhabitants. I can always count on Kristen Painter to write light-hearted romances with unique settings! Also can I move to Nocturne Falls, Halloween is my favorite.
Now to the actual story. Delany was a fun heroine. She wasn’t afraid to stand up for herself which I enjoyed. I also loved all her chocolate facts. Hugh was a protective vampire but also a bit geeky. He has a lab that he experiments in but also isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. Delany and Hugh’s relationship was an enjoyable one. This is an instant love relationship though with them admitting their feelings within just a few weeks of knowing each other.
Overall, this was a fun, light-hearted, paranormal romance set in a unique town. I am looking forward to rereading the rest of the series, especially since I don’t remember a lot of the characters anymore.
I’ll admit, I was a little hesitant to start The Vampire’s Mail Order Bride, but I am so glad that I did! It is full of sweet sugary goodness!
The entire story was just light and fluffy and an overall fun read. I found myself smiling and laughing almost the entire time! I loved Delaney, Hugh, and Stanhill. Despite Stanhill being Hugh’s “butler,” he steals the scenes sometimes. He is just that funny! The humor is not obnoxious either, it just seems so natural for the characters. There are funny puns and great references.
One of my favorite parts was how the book actually made me crave something sweet. Delaney is a confectionery genius, and Painter has a way with describing all of the sweet confectionery treats that Delaney encounters. All I could think about wile reading the book, was I wish I lived in Nocturne Falls and could have Delaney make me some tiramisu!
If you are looking for a nice light and fluffy paranormal romance, then The Vampire’s Mail Order Bride is perfect! I am just so glad that I came across such a fun entertaining read and am so glad that Painter has a few more books set in the town of Nocturne Falls, where everyday is Halloween!
This was my first Kristen Painter book and I fell in love with her writhing by the end. I love the idea of the town celebrating Halloween year round so that the inhabitants had a safe place to be themselves.
Loved this book and can’t wait to read the rest of the series. Lots of fun!
A light, frothy paranormal romance, it’s fairly predictable, but still enjoyable for a quick, cheerful read.
When Delaney accidentally sees a mob related hit in New York, she tries to hide by fleeing to tiny Nocturne Falls and assuming the identity of a woman who is supposed to be arriving there as a mail order bride. Like all the other tourists in town, she assumes the fur, fangs and magic spells are just for show, in this town billed as “Halloween/365”. Little does she know that her unwilling groom-to-be is actually a 400 year old vampire, who plans to send her packing in 30 days, the time limit agreed upon between he and his grandmother, who arranged the match. But he never planned on meeting Delaney, when he made that agreement.
Sometimes I am in the mood for fluff. This was great fluff. A nice quick read that required no thinking. It was sweet and enjoyable. I felt all snuggly reading it. Apparently its a part of a larger series, which is good. I know where more are whenever I need a hug and a jolt of ramance.
absolutely had a blast reading this book
This is my first time reading Kristen Painter. Out the gate – absolutely had a blast reading this book and am definitely look forward to the rest of the series! Our little heroine is a handful of trouble and a whole lot of fun. She accidentally witness’ something that she shouldn’t (no I am not telling you what) and has to hide out. She stumbles into the perfect scenario to keep out of harm’s way till she can figure out what to do. And on to our hero she goes, our unsuspecting hero. And the town – love the town (again not telling you) Our hero is one of three brothers in a “close” family and the dynamics throughout the book are just excellent! Really all I can say is this is a definite must read if you are looking for romance , laughter, and a little bit of danger.
(3/2016)
I didn’t intend to buy this novel. I noticed the title during a sale, laughed, and went right past it. A day later, I found myself looking it over again, reading the blurb, and thinking about giving it a try. The day after that, I bought it. I mean—with a title like this, it deserves some extra consideration.
So I bought the book and ended up bumping it to the top of my list and I enjoyed it thoroughly. There’s nothing in here even remotely surprising (except that the vampire can walk about in daytime), but despite being rather formulaic, it was just the sort of light-hearted read that makes me smile.
The plot is pretty straight forward. Our heroine, Delaney, witnesses a mob murder and has to run for it. While getting off the streets to hide, she stumbles into a business that arranges prospective matches between lonely men and women—a modern-day mail-order bride service. She steals a file and impersonates the bride-to-be thinking that if she can just get away for a few weeks she can figure out what to do about her mob problem.
On the other end of this relationship is a four-hundred-year-old vampire whose grandmother wants him to get married and have children so she can have some great-grandbabies. That, by the way, tells you another critical point about this book. Vampires are really just people with fangs. They aren’t evil. They don’t appear to have a particular strong bloodlust. They eat regular food in addition to blood in packets. And really aren’t vampires by most people’s definition of the word. Anyway, our vampire, Hugh, hasn’t gotten over the death of his wife four hundred years ago. And he’s angry that his grandmother is interfering in his life, but agrees to give the mail order bride she’s arranged for him a 30 day chance to win his heart.
As everyone reading this review has already imagined, the two fall instantly in love but Hugh fights his passion fearing that he will cause Delaney’s death as he did his first wife. Most of the problems—an ex-girlfriend, the mob—really aren’t problems at all. They are just foils to force Hugh to realize Delaney is the perfect woman for him.
And it works! Painter has assembled a charming little town that celebrates Halloween every day and it’s just a lovely setting for her light romance with a touch of supernatural for flavor. Despite my initial hesitancy, I’m so glad I read the novel that I’ve already picked up another one in the series.
This was such a sweet, quirky and cute story! Kristen Painter built the characters and town so perfect and loveable. Nocturn Falls reminds me a lot of Halloween Town in A Nightmare Before Christmas and writer Molly Harper’s Half-Moon Hollow town. I’m not used to clean romances, so I kept waiting for more. I feel like the intensity between Hugh and Delaney could’ve been better. But that just could be me not being used to clean romances where they basically kiss and then fade to black. This was a light and fluffy read. I had just finished an intense thriller, so this was exactly what I needed. I really love the town and would love to visit again in the rest of the series.
BJ Harrison was perfectly cast for this role. His timing, pitch, and pacing were spot on. He flawlessly transitioned between characters and accents, making each person distinguishable. He brought the story to life. I would highly recommend the audiobook version of this story.

This was the first book by this author I had read . Enjoyed it so much couldn’t wait for the next in series.
Super witty and well written.
Delaney James is witness to the unbelievable. Now on the run for her life she finds a way to go into hiding, steeling the identity of someone else. But she has just entered the city of Nocturne Falls, where the citizens have secrets she has only read about in fantasy paranormal novels, and where she is expected to date the incredibly handsome Hugh Ellingham with the intention of possibly marrying him.
Hugh Ellingham is furious with the plan his grandmother has set in motion, forcing him into an arranged marriage with a woman he has never met. But he struggles with the feelings that quickly develop for the adorably sassy woman his grandmother arranged for him. But when he discovers the secrets she’s hiding how will he react?
When Hugh finds out Delaney is running from the mob he will do anything to protect her. Delaney will be shocked to find out Hugh’s secret but hopefully love will conquer all obsticles in this sweet novel.
I was horribly disappointed that this book completely overlooked dealing with the killer. He was the catalyst to all of Delaney’s problems but there was no conclusion there.
I really enjoyed this book. I would love to read more in the series but the rest are too high priced.
This was my first book by this author, and I grabbed it after it was recommended in a reader group on Facebook. This is a sweet romance with some suspense mixed in. Hugh is a vampire and Delaney is a girl on the run for her life. Their attraction to each other is immediate, and not just physical. Delaney is a different kind of woman than Hugh is used to and she keeps him on his toes. I love her driven personality, her easy acceptance of circumstances, and her sense of humor. I love Hugh’s protectiveness and his gentleness with Delaney. The town is an amazing setting with lots of fun places and characters. I thought the book was clean and well written. The secondary characters are interesting. The main characters fall hard for each other and get their HEA. It was enjoyable, and I will read more by this author.
I love this book! What I love most was that there were no nasty scenes or language. I love Hugh and Delaney. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
The characters in this book are awesome. I love this whole series. With the right amount of drama and romance without the graphic sex descriptions which is a plus for me. A fun read!
A good balance of drama and whimsy.
Stayed up all night to finish this one, very cute. Can’t wait to read the others!
