Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year. The tourists think it’s all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better. Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs, fur, and all.Las Vegas headliner and vampire Desdemona Valentine is one cool, … Valentine is one cool, collected diva on the outside. On the inside, she’s petrified of falling in love after her last relationship nearly killed her…literally. Protecting her wounded heart makes for a lonely life, but she has her fame and fortune to keep her company. Who needs anything more?
Julian Ellingham does. One look at Desdemona on stage, and the vampire is smitten. She initially ignores him, but his relentless pursuit pays off when a wild night ends in a Vegas wedding. Finally, Julian has everything he wants while all Desdemona wants is…a divorce.
Julian sweet-talks Desdemona into letting him prove his love, but his time is running out. Especially after someone repeatedly tries to turn his bride to ash. When Desdemona flees Vegas for the spooky streets of Nocturne Falls and Julian’s protection, he’s more than willing to help out. But can he convince Desdemona to trust him, or will ‘death do us part’ become a reality?

Another great entry in the world of Nocturne Falls. Julian, the “womanizer” gets married in secret but his wife, vampire Desdemona Valentine, immediately wants a divorce because she “Can’t love him.” Before they can get the divorce finalized, Desdemona gets a stalker and turns to Julian for help. He brings her to Nocturne Falls… and that’s when the story gets really good. 🙂
3 stars – I liked it
Julian Ellingham has spent months keeping his marriage a secret because while he may love his wife, she doesn’t love him. After eight months of marriage nothing has changed between them and Julian knows that a divorce is imminent. But when Desdemona has to flee Vegas due to a crazy stalker he might get his second chance at convincing her to make this marriage a reality.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I was surprised by how much I liked Julian. He has been the playboy and ladies man from the very beginning but we finally get to see his true self. Julian is a surprisingly emotional and kind man. He frequently shows Desdemona how caring and loving he can be. Julian was a surprise and I ended up loving him.
Desdemona is where the mixed feelings come in. I love that Desdemona is a woman who is true to herself and knows what she loves. She wears crazy clothes and isn’t afraid of being flashy. My issue with her is that while she is all for being true to herself she also is using her ex-husband as an excuse to not live her life to the fullest, which doesn’t match with her outgoing and self-centered lifestyle. Desdemona was just a character whose actions didn’t match her thoughts in my opinion. By the end of the book she had definitely become a better heroine but I still didn’t love her.
Now I did enjoy the whole plot of this story with the accidental marriage and the unknown enemy stalking her. I just wish that I had loved the heroine a little more. Overall, this was a good addition to the series but not my favorite couple.
ARC – I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
From the previous book, I thought that Julian was this “no-cares” playboy.
That was just the persona he wanted people to see
Underneath, he has been pinning for only 1 woman, who think of him only as a friend.
One drunk night, Desdemona + Julian got married.
However the next morning, Desdemona regrets the marriage.
She was hurt in the past + is afraid to give heart to someone else again.
Julian will just have to try to change her mind.
When Desdemona is in danger, Julian will do anything to protect her.
We see a side of Julian that he hides from everybody.
It was a great reading.
Love the ending!
I love the characters, the plot, and the setting. It’s a charming and magical book. Ms. Painter’s wit comes through on every page. The heat level of her romances have just the right amount of steam. I wouldn’t be embarrassed letting my young adult niece nor my aging aunties read any of the Nocturne Falls books.
They are perfect as is. I wouldn’t change a thing.
Loved the entire Nocturne Falls series
Loved it. I could read her books forever. Hater to see the book end
It was not only entertaining but it was funny and had a happy ending.
I LOVE THIS WHOLE SERIES!
I have enjoyed every book I have read in the series. Can not wait to read more of them.
Really cute series, I’ve enjoyed every one of Painter’s books. Her writing keeps getting better.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick funny read with an interesting twist on the normal dark vampire theme. Funny, quirky dialogue and great characters. I love this author’s books and choice of covers.
