This is a completely different take on a vampires story. It’s refreshing and engrossing.
Areal hates being a vampire. Michael is his angel campaign. His trusted friend that has been with him through many lifetimes.
Areal is whinny at times. He is definitely demanding, and he is very afraid. It is through Michael’s friendship and blood that Areal starts to change. Stops running and becomes someone that his friends can rely on. It was brilliant to see Areal develop. To read his story.
S.S Bazinet has a very distinctive writing style. It draws you in. Compels you to keep reading. It makes you feel and understand the characters, from vampire to angel.
This book is a treat for any reader.
This is not a same old, same old vampire story. It is a story about trust, friendship. It’s about understanding the mistakes you make in life. Coming to terms with your past. To become stronger in the present. A well deserved five stars.
I have to confess I never thought I’d read a book about vampires. On top of being a big chicken when it comes to anything of otherworldly scariness, I just couldn’t grasp why these stories would be so captivating. But having read other books by talented author S.S. Bazinet, I was sufficiently enticed to dive into this mysterious realm. What I encountered surprised me, in a good way.
Though the opening scene is intense, it’s filled with the kind of drama I can appreciate. I wasn’t unnerved by the subject matter because it was secondary to the drama between the angel Michael and Arel, the soul he is trying to redeem. The tension of their relationship kept its hold on me as the story shifted seamlessly into an entirely different direction.
As Arel—the former vampire—grows stronger and more invested in having a new life, he ventures out into the world with baby steps, making a connection with a very kind woman named Carol in an online chatroom. From that innocent fledgling relationship, Arel falls into a whole new scary world filled with Carol’s formidable friends. The mix of completely different personalities is explosive, leading to all kinds of friction and turmoil, the kind of turmoil that makes for very compelling reading.
I don’t want to give anything away, but I can say this book manages to address so many concepts regarding the human experience and souls and destiny. I found it fascinating and thought-provoking as well as entertaining.
Fascinating!
This is the first book that I’ve read by S.S. Bassinet but it won’t be the last! She has a way of writing that is so compelling that you begin to literally feel the characters emotions! In fact, some of the beginning portion of the book was so heavy and dark I thought I was going to have to put the book aside for a while but just as that thought crossed my mind, it changed and things became more optimistic. That being said, the concept of the book was fascinating. It was totally different than what I expected as far as the vampire side of the story, but I think we will see more “vampire” in the next book, which I look forward to reading, as well as other series she has available!
I gave this book 3 stars to be fair because in all honesty, I didn’t read it all, I just skimmed through some of it. I really tried to read this, but I became incredibly bored and started to skim chapters to get to something more interesting. The book is very long which wouldn’t be a problem if it would interest me more, have more going on maybe. This one isn’t for me. I can say it is well edit which isn’t always the case.
Not worth reading
