A fun, flirty teen debut from Wattpad phenom Alex Light about a fake relationship and real love. It’s been years since seventeen-year-old Becca Hart believed in true love. But when her former best friend teases her for not having had a boyfriend, Becca impulsively pretends she’s been secretly seeing someone. Brett Wells has it all. As captain of the football team and one of the most popular guys … and one of the most popular guys in his school, he should have no problem finding someone to date, but he’s always been more focused on his future than who to bring to prom.
When he overhears Becca’s lie, Brett decides to step in and be the mystery guy. It’s the perfect solution: he gets people off his back for not having a meaningful relationship and she can keep up the ruse that she’s got a boyfriend.
Acting like the perfect couple isn’t easy, though, especially when you barely know the other person. But with Becca still picking up the pieces from when her world was blown apart years ago and Brett just barely holding his together now, they begin to realize they have more in common than they ever could have imagined.
When the line between what is pretend and what is real begins to blur, they’re forced to answer the question: Is this fake romance the realest thing in either of their lives?

Book 101 towards my goal of 290! 4.5/5 stars for this YA Romance read. Great for fans of Much Ado About You (only YA instead of adult). Our main character LOVES her some romance reads. Also includes a fake dating trope, which I love! Loved the dual narration! Definitely recommend if you need a cute romance read!
If I were 17 reading this, I’d be estatic and fangrirl over this giving it 5/5 Not to say I didn’t enjoy this but my reading perspective is abit or moreover so different.
This is a really cute sweet fluffy romance that I’d highly recommend to those who aren’t big fans on heavy romances. I really loved how family dynamics were very important to Becca and Brett. When they struggle or need someone to go to, they rely on eachother. Brett is a sweetheart, the way he cares and feels for Becca ahh it was just too adorable! Becca’s character from the beginning to the end had its slow development change which is very understandable though I want to say her feelings towards Brett was abit on the dry side or for better word lacked abit, though it changed gradually.
I see myself in Becca alot throughout the story because in personal circumstances I think the same way as her about love and family. With her love of romances in books, how she thinks of love in comparison to reality… I wanted to know how HER story would end!
Overall astonishing debut novel I look forward to more of your work in the future Alex Light Did I mention how much I love this cute cover!!
This story is a sweet, teen romance and was very quick and easy to read.
Seventeen year old Becca Hart has stopped believing in love ever since her parent’s divorce five years ago when her father just upped and left. Now, Becca spends most of her time lost in the romance books that she loves to escape into. When Becca ex-best friend, Jenny teases her about not having a boyfriend, Becca lies and says she is dating someone. No one is more surprised than Becca when Brett Wells, the perfect, gorgeous captain of the football team comes up pretending to be her boyfriend. This starts their fake relationship. Brett spends most of him time preparing for his future and doesn’t have time for a girlfriend and thinks having this fake relationship will get everyone off of his back about not having a girlfriend.
Of course the more time Becca and Brett spend together getting to know each other and pretend, they start to find out that they are really drawn to each other. As Becca and Brett continue through their lives, they both start to realize that everything they always thought they had known is not actually the rosy truth and they may just need each other to help navigate through the storm. After all of the turmoil, Becca and Brett realize that their lives are much better with the other in it and they get a perfect fairy tale ending.
I enjoyed this sweet romance. It takes you back to your teenage years and all the drama that happened back then. I really liked both Becca and Brett. They had some fun dialog together but I really liked how they could talk about anything because to them in the beginning it was all fake so they didn’t have the awkward phase of getting to know each other. If more teenagers could do that it would save a lot of heartache in the long run. If you are looking for a fun, sweet, teenage romance, give this one a try.
I spent some time reading reviews and people really didn’t love this one, and I don’t know, it’s cute once you get past the 10 car pile-up of cliches. I mean, wowzah! We start with the ultra-swoony descriptions of Brett, the football star, who does nothing but practice. (He doesn’t once the book gets going, there are just a few games.) Then we have Becca’s anti-love stance. Hurt from the abandonment of her father, she wants nothing to do with love. She’s a huge book nerd, thus making them complete opposites. Add a fake boyfriend and you’ve got The Upside of Falling.
Becca and Brett cute together. I liked the little added details, such as her mom’s bakery. They are good kids, and although it seems like they come from different worlds, they’re good together. It’s a fun book, and once you get past all the cliches, you will find a quick read that’s entertaining and sweet.
4.5/5 Stars
This is one of those books that will leave a perma-smile on your face. It’s that stinkin’ adorable. I knew the moment that I read the synopsis for this story that it was one that I had to read.
I adored these characters so much. The author has written these characters with depth that shows throughout the story. Both main characters have some really solid character development. I really loved their individual personalities. They both stood out and had their own distinct voices. I liked the side characters as well and I wish that we could have seen even more of them in the story.
The romance in the book was so heartwarming. The two main characters start off in a fake relationship for their own reasons. Over time their relationship changes and the edges start to blur a little bit. They each end up finding love when they weren’t looking for it. I loved how they seemed to complete pieces of each other. They were a support to one another and their actions really showed how much they cared for each other. They also had incredible carefree chemistry with one another that was such a delight.
This is a fast-paced story but it doesn’t feel rushed at all. The flow of the story had a perfect balance. All of the plot points are ticked off at just the right time. I enjoyed the overall plot of the story and I was happy with the way the story ended. I liked that this story wasn’t all rainbows and unicorns. It deals with some serious issues that affect many teens and children growing up.
Overall, this was a cute and entertaining story that I breezed right through. This is a debut that I totally recommend!
Great Debut.
I really enjoyed how family centric the story was. How it dealt with managing the difficulties of changing family dynamics and showed how those dynamics can shape the relational beliefs and world view of young adults. The MC’s were super cute and loveable. And who could ask for a more perfect combination than books, cupcakes, and football? Definitely recommend for fans of Han.
