the unwanted is a strong debut novel, with lots of good ideas.
the start of the book was a little slow. but once things got moving, that’s when i started to get into it. the ending was eventful, and well written.
one thing i liked about the unwanted is the use of the people’s different abilities. i liked that a lot of them felt unique and different. i don’t want to give too much away, so i won’t go into detail, but i think this is the first book where the character’s abilities were what they are.
i also really enjoyed the relationship between alex and anthony. i felt it was well written and very well developed. they were fun to read about. throwing emma into the mix was a very good choice from the author. i loved her character. i just wish we had more time to properly get to know her.
the book takes place over a couple of days, making some of the training seem illogical. (however it didn’t take away from my reading experience, it’s just something i noted as odd). due to the book being taken over a short period of time, i felt this affected the relationships between the main characters. if they had more time, i think we could’ve seen a lot more of their friendship (mostly with emma).
overall, i enjoyed reading this book. although it was plot motivated, i enjoyed the characters and their relationships more.
I loved the storyline and the friendship that connects the characters. It’s the gripping story of a group of teenagers with different abilities, that they’re just discovering and can’t fully comprehend.
When one of them gets killed and the day resets, Alex makes it his mission to prevent the murder from happening. Things don’t go as planned and although his friend survives, something else bad happens. Alex feels guilty and goes above and beyond to make things right again.
The story is original and the writing is tight, well-paced, and engaging with relatable, multidimensional characters. I wish I knew more about the superpowers each character has, like where did these powers come from. But I suspect the author plans on revealing this a little bit at a time, and I’m okay with it.

This author is new to me. Now that I’ve read this book I will read more of what he has written. The story is about 15-year-old teenagers who have exceptional abilities that normal people don’t. I like the way the book is written along with how the author portrayed the main character Alex’s thoughts and feelings as he maneuvers through life. These kids are just trying to grow up in normal situations however their abilities have caught the eye of an unknown Group of evil doers. Alex, Emma, and Anthonys friendship grows throughout their adventures . Alex and Anthony go through many trials and tribulations to save Emma who was taken by a Kidnappers. She is considered the parcel throughout the story but the reason for the kidnapping is never truly revealed. This is a well written story and I’m looking forward to the second book in the series.
A week ago, the author contacted me in the hope of giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I read the description of ‘The Unwanted’ and found it interesting. The novel also was a great chance for me to diversify my shelf, so I was pretty happy about that too. It took me three days to finish, and I enjoyed reading it.
The book was easy to read, and it can be finished in one sitting. The pacing was a bit off; in the beginning, the actions were happening quite fast, throughout the middle part, the pacing slowed down, and towards the end, it was fast again. A lot of things happened in the last 5 per cent of the book, but I didn’t mind it. It hyped me for the next book in the series (at least, I hope there will be a second book). The writing was clear and easy to follow, and even if sometimes it contained terms used in chemistry, I found that they made the story more engaging.
As for the characters, I found them well-written and round. Alex annoyed me in the very beginning because he was too concerned about his scholarship. I know it meant a lot to him, and I know it was important, but I don’t think there was a single page in the first 3 chapters without ‘What if I lose my scholarship?’. Anthony was the sweetest. He cared so much about his friend, and every time his name appeared on the page, I cracked a smile. I only wish we had more time with Emma, at least in the beginning.
What I found a bit of a stretch was the fact that Alex had no idea Anthony had a brother. In the book, it says that Alex and Anthony were friends since they were little. How did Anthony hide the fact he had a brother? How is that even possible? I think Alex should have known about David without knowing about what he did to Anthony. It would have made more sense.
Overall, the book was great! It had action, strong characters, plot twists and a hell of a cliff hanger in the end. I couldn’t recommend it more, even if sometimes it needs some improvement. I also have high expectations from the sequel, just as a side note.
