Amazing book for transforming yourself and your thinking!
This book was unlike any other I had ever read before. Instead of helping me tackle all my problems one by one using different tactics, he made me see how I could get rid of it all in one fell swoop. He made me see the distinction between the lower self and the higher self, although he uses different words. Now, whenever I am caught up with the drama of my mind, I remember his guidance and am able to separate myself from the chaos while rising above. This has been a moment to moment practice and I feel that I have been made the better for it. I can’t stop recommending this book to the people around me. It really is a gift to humanity.
Must read. This book really changed my life so positively.
Singer’s insightful words were healing and inspirational. Reference to his ideas made it into my new book Waiting for Winter – Memoir.
This book changed my life! Love it!!
Some of my favorite gems…and there are dozens more:
“Only you can take inner freedom away from yourself, or give it to yourself.”
“The natural ups and downs of life can either generate personal growth or create personal fears.”
“As you grow spiritually, you will realize that your attempts to protect yourself from your problems actually create more problems. If you attempt to arrange people, places, and things so they don’t disturb you, it will begin to feel like life is against you.”
“The alternative is to decide not to fight with life.”
“What you can do is notice that you noticed…The one who notices [as opposed to personally identifying] is already free.”
“Stop telling your mind that its job is to fix your personal problems….The truth is, everything will be okay as soon as you are okay with everything. And that’s the only time everything will be okay.”
“If you can learn to remain centered with the smaller things, you will see that you can also remain centered with bigger things. Over time you will find that you can even remain centered with the really big things.”
“When your heart starts to close, just say, ‘No, I’m not going to close. I’m going to relax. I’m going to let this situation take place and be there with it.'”
“Spiritual growth is about the point at which you start to feel your energy change. The moment you see the energy getting imbalanced inside, the moment you see the heart starting to tense and get defensive, you just stop. When the energies inside start to move, you do not have to go there. For instance, when your thoughts start, you do not have to go with them.”
“What used to hold you down is what wakes you up.”
“You’re standing on one little ball of dirt and spinning around one of the stars. From that perspective, do you really care what people think about your clothes or your car?:
“Learn not to be afraid of inner pain and disturbance.”
“Pain is not a problem. It’s just a thing in the universe.”
“Wholeheartedly participate in life…permit the world to be what it is instead of being afraid of it.”
“When you feel pain, simply view it as energy. … Then relax.”
“True freedom is very close; it’s just on the other side of your walls.”
“Events don’t determine whether or not you’re going to be happy. They’re just events. You determine whether or not you’re going to be happy. You can be happy just to be alive.”
“In the end, enjoying life’s experiences is the only rational thing to do. You’re sitting on a planet spinning around in the middle of absolutely nowhere. Go ahead, take a look at reality. You’re floating in empty space in a universe that goes on forever. If you have to be here, at least be happy and enjoy the experience. You’re going to die anyway. Why shouldn’t you be happy? You gain nothing by being bothered by life’s events. It doesn’t change the world; you just suffer. There’s always going to be something that can bother you, if you let it.”
“Nature just gives and gives to whoever will receive. Should you choose not to receive, it doesn’t punish you. You punish yourself because you choose not to receive. If you say to the light, ‘I will not look at you. I’m going to live in darkness,’ the light just keeps shining.”
“The balance point is not static; it’s a dynamic equilibrium. You move from balance point to balance point, from center to center…Let the forces move you.”
“Extremes are good teachers.”
“Life life fully, and you won’t have any last wishes.”
“The only thing there is to get from life is the growth that comes from experiencing it. Life is your career, and your interaction with life is your most meaningful relationship.”
“Daily work is fun. In fact, it’s easy. Your work is just what you do with yourself during the day while you’re spinning on a planet through empty space. If you want to be content and enjoy your work, you have to let go of yourself and let events flow through you. Your real work is left to do after all else passes through.”
“It is not life’s events that are causing problems or stress. It is your resistance to life’s events that is causing this experience.”
“God is ecstasy. God is a high as it gets. If you want to be close to god, learn to be joyful.”
This is a great book for beginners and those who are starting their own paths and shifts.
This book has truly changed my life!!! It’s an amazing book for someone on a self discovery journey.
This is a guidance book into a particular state of spiritual advancement. It has a goal of setting the reader free from a vast array of ‘tethers’ that hold us back without us noticing we are being held back. A major spiritual best seller for a long time.
Profound and pure insight on being a good person.
Michael Singer was on Super Soul Sunday with Oprah and when the book was mentioned I downloaded it right away. I’ve listened to it on and off for months. This book is one that I come back to again and again. It is a self help/spiritual book and a reminder that we spend too much time in our heads listening to thoughts that are self defeating.
This is one of the best non-fiction/self-help books I have ever read. It is in the top 3 of my 50 years of life. It feels like a gift from heaven that now allows me to carry some heaven around with me as I go about my life here on earth.
