#1 New York Times bestselling author Daniel Silva’s celebrated debut novel, The Unlikely Spy, is “A ROLLER-COASTER WORLD WAR II ADVENTURE that conjures up memories of the best of Ken Follett and Frederick Forsyth” (The Orlando Sentinel).“In wartime,” Winston Churchill wrote, “truth is so precious that she should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies.” For Britain’s counterintelligence … For Britain’s counterintelligence operations, this meant finding the unlikeliest agent imaginable—a history professor named Alfred Vicary, handpicked by Churchill himself to expose a highly dangerous, but unknown, traitor. The Nazis, however, have also chosen an unlikely agent. Catherine Blake is the beautiful widow of a war hero, a hospital volunteer—and a Nazi spy under direct orders from Hitler: uncover the Allied plans for D-Day…

I’m a huge fan of Daniel Silvia’s work. Not only because the plots are so good, and the characters are believable and complex, but I always learn so much about history and art in each one.
Great book by my favorite writer. I have read every book he has written. This is one in a series where the main character is Gabriel Allon. Most are set in Europe and Silva transports me back to some of my favorite places. I anxiously await every year’s new novel in this series. I highly recommend this book if you like action, highly developed and recurring characters, and intrigue.
Absolutely marvelous historical fiction spy novel set in world war 2.
It’s almost unnecessary to review Silva, I am always awed on how timely his characters issues are and how well we are kept connected to the main character. No small feat when you think about how many times we have met the reluctant Israeli. I was initially drawn to his “cover” of art restorer, was it a need for careful reconstruction of something fine, after an episode of either painful or blazing action? Always good, Silva
As with all of Daniel Silva’s Gabriell Allon novels, very thought provoking. This is definitely a good one.
Daniel silva good. Typical for him. Just enough suspense with the right amount of action to keep you up at night reading.
Always a great read, hard to put down until the end. Then the wait begins for the next book.
Enjoyed Silva’s first book despite several small plot issues – some might call them flaws. I did find that some portions dragged a bit. Having read almost all of his later books, I can say his writing improved and I will continue to be one of his readers.
I love Daniel Silva’s Gabriel Allon series. They all have a historical fact that they are based on. They are very entertaining with lots of twists snd turns!
Well known events interspersed with fiction make for an entertaining read.
Anything from Silva.
Another good read from Silva!
I am big fan of Daniel Silva. He is always on his game. I cannot wait until the new Gabriel Allon story is available.
I always like his characters and contrast between restoration art work and spy craft.
Love all of f his books!
I love everyone of Daniel Silva’s books. Great stories, great characters, very current.
Always edge of your seat and always informative
Silva’s first book is still my favorite of his. A spin on ‘The Eye of the Needle’ with a neat gender-twist, ‘The Unlikely Spy’ brings the era to vivid life. Compelling from page one.
Daniel Silva never disappoints. His Gabriel Allon series is magnificent and I highly recommend that you read them all. You won’t regret it!!
best spy series around
