For two sworn enemies, anything can happen during the Hawaiian trip of a lifetime–maybe even love–in this romantic comedy from the New York Times bestselling authors of Roomies.
Olive Torres is used to being the unlucky twin: from inexplicable mishaps to a recent layoff, her life seems to be almost comically jinxed. By contrast, her sister Ami is an eternal champion…she even managed to finance her entire wedding by winning a slew of contests. Unfortunately for Olive, the only thing worse than constant bad luck is having to spend the wedding day with the best man (and her nemesis), Ethan Thomas.
Olive braces herself for wedding hell, determined to put on a brave face, but when the entire wedding party gets food poisoning, the only people who aren’t affected are Olive and Ethan. Suddenly there’s a free honeymoon up for grabs, and Olive will be damned if Ethan gets to enjoy paradise solo.
Agreeing to a temporary truce, the pair head for Maui. After all, ten days of bliss is worth having to assume the role of loving newlyweds, right? But the weird thing is…Olive doesn’t mind playing pretend. In fact, the more she pretends to be the luckiest woman alive, the more it feels like she might be.
With Christina Lauren’s “uniquely hilarious and touching voice” (Entertainment Weekly), The Unhoneymooners is a romance for anyone who has ever felt unlucky in love.

The Unhoneymooners is an over the top, laugh out loud story that will hook you from page one and leave you gasping for more. The Unhoneymooners follows the story of Olive and Ethan. Olive has always been unlucky in life. Anything that could go wrong for Olive usually always does. And that burst of bad luck just had me addicted to Olive. Yes, some moments were over the top or awkward, but honestly, Olive was just a breath of fresh air. And when fate gives Olive’s luck a change for the better, you know I just had to find out what would happen next for Olive…Yes, fate finally decides to cut Olive some slack, but the problem is, fate has Olive going to paradise with her arch nemesis, Ethan. And while she’d love more than anything to tell Ethan to get lost, she decides that she can survive ten days with the enemy. But, things aren’t always as they seem. Ethan proves to be more than just a handsome guy with a charming, sarcastic personality. Fate seems to pulling out all the stops and soon Ethan & Olive will find themselves questioning everything they thought they knew…..
The Unhoneymooners was such a fun ride. After a week of craziness, this over the top, laugh out loud, funny book was just what the doctor ordered. From being down on your luck to finally catching a break. To spending a week with your arch nemesis and discovering that maybe he’s not as bad as you thought. To misunderstandings that could turn anyone’s world upside down. To an unlikely pairing that leaves you breathless for more. This story hit all the marks for me. The Unhoneymooners is like a burst of sunshine on a cloudy day. It’s a romantic comedy that owns the enemies to lovers troupe.
If you’re looking for a book that is hilarious and that will make you swoon, look no further and grab your copy of The Unhoneymooners today. This book was so much more than I ever anticipated. I was taken on one heck of ride and loved every single crazy moment of it. I hope Ethan & Olive’s story will leave you in stitches and will have you falling in love with Ethan & Olive just as I have.
4 stars. This was a good book! In the past I really enjoyed CLo books, but over the last few years their books just haven’t been the same to me. The Unhoneymooners broke that streak for me and brought me back to the joy I felt when I first started reading their books. This book is a true romance with some funny moments, sweet and emotional ones (as opposed to their last few books which felt like women’s fiction to me). I was skeptical that I would love this book, but was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it and how hard it was to put down.
The Unhoneymooners is Olive and Ethan’s story. Olive has always been unlucky. Her luck has recently gotten worse when she lost her job and her roomate around the same time. But her luck may be turning around when she finally gets a job and then she gets a chance to take the trip of a lifetime. The only problem is that she has to go with a guy who she thinks hates her.
Olive’s twin sister is marrying Ethan’s brother. Olive liked Ethan on first meeting him several years ago, but they got off to a poor start and have avoided each other since. On the day of their siblings wedding, due to their personal food issues, they are the only wedding guests to not eat off of the seafood buffet at the wedding. The entire wedding party and all the guests get terrible food poisoning. It is impossible for the newlyweds to go on their honeymoon. So Olive’s sister insists she take the trip to Hawaii, which can’t be rescheduled because it was won in a contest, and bring Ethan with her.
Olive is skeptical that she could enjoy any trip she takes with Ethan. He treats her with disdain and they fight constantly. But she is willing to try and just avoid Ethan as much as she can while they share a honeymoon suite. But as Ethan and Olive are forced to spend time together in paradise, they find their impressions about each other, and what they think the other person is thinking about them, is wrong. They truly get to the bottom of their differences, get to know each other and fall for each other over their two week vacation. There is some complications because they have to pose as a married couple to keep their free vacation going and they run into people they actually know, which makes it hard to keep the ruse going. Once they get home, they also have to face their siblings and families, who may not be happy about their new relationship. Can they make it through the vacation and carry their new found love into the real world?
I really enjoyed this story. It was original and interesting. I loved both Olive and Ethan. They were opposites and they did bicker a lot, but they were very honest with each other as well, which made their relationship refreshing. They were really fun and deep characters, who were all about each other. The two of them got off on the wrong foot when they met and had bad impressions of each other, but it all worked out in the end. I really enjoyed seeing their relationship develop. It felt like a slow burn, even though they fell in love over a two week trip. Both Olive and Ethan grew as people together as the book went on. I enjoyed all of the side characters of Olive’s large Mexican American family too. The only thing I didn’t totally love was the low heat level and somewhat fade to black sex scenes. Still, it didn’t bother me too much.
Overall, The Unhoneymooners was an entertaining, easy and cute read. There were some sweet, emotional, and funny moments. This was a book about finding yourself, growing as a person and falling in love along the way. I enjoyed this book a lot and look forward to more in this vein from Christina Lauren in the future!
Oh my goodness! This one was so good I read it practically in one sitting and would have if life wouldn’t have intruded (drat that job!) but I highly recommend picking this one up immediately! Olive is the unlucky twin (and always has considered herself to be so) and now she is standing up for her twin sister (the lucky twin) at her wedding. That is okay except the best man is her nemesis and the brother of the groom. Spending 24 hours with him is bad enough but when they are the only ones who are not struck with food poisoning at the reception and the honeymoon to Hawaii is up for grabs and the bride and groom insist they take advantage of it, all bets are off. How are they going to spend two weeks together? Easy, all they have to do is there there and sleep in the same room, that is until forces beyond their control in the form of Olives new boss and Ethan’s former fiancee are at the same resort. Oh no! They are now forced to actually act like honeymooners! Cozy and loving and everything! This was smart, witty, FUN, sexy, and oh-so hilarious, I found myself giggling and the dogs looking at me with their heads tilted. Such perfect banter, the pages few by until I thought my kindle was going to combust. This is a standalone and would be a perfect beach read but would probably induce sunburn because you would not want to put it down.
I loved this book! After reading the blurb and seeing the cover I couldn’t get my hands on it fast enough. Once I started The Unhoneymooners I couldn’t put it down.
Olive has a twin sister Ami who is getting married. These two couldn’t be more different. Ami is lucky where Olive is down on her luck. She thinks all the bad things happen to her. Ami does any sweepstakes she can to win things. She ends up getting her wedding and honeymoon paid for. At the reception things are going good until everyone starts to get sick. Out of the family the only two to not get sick are the ones that can’t stand each other.
Ethan and Olive are taking the honeymoon because it is non-fundable free trip. They have to learn to like each other and be able to fake being in love. That is not as easy as you’d think. Many things happen while on the honeymoon.
This was a fun rom-com that had me laughing and loving these characters. I devoured this book. This was the perfect enemies to lovers story. I highly recommend it!
The Unhoneymooners was AMAZING! It’s a laugh-out-loud, slow burn romance that had THE BEST banter and one-liners. From start to finish, this was everything I could have wanted. Amazing characters, storyline, and build. So freaking hilarious and full of so much heart. I absolutely loved it!
I love Christina Lauren and when I received this book I realized that I haven’t read from the duo for a while so I decided to catch-up a bit 🙂 So I read ‘My Favorite Half-Night Stand’ and ‘Dating You/Hating You’ prior to this. As always they did an amazing job. As for ‘The Unhoneymooners’, it is not my favorite book of the duo. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a bad book, it was fun, entertaining and easy read but it just didn’t work for me.
Olive Torres and Ethan Thomas hate each other. However, since Olive’s twin Ami is marrying with Ethan’s brother Dane, they have to endure each other for 24 hours. Ami is a super lucky person, thanks to her luck on Internet contests and her planning, her whole wedding cost NOTHING. Yeah, you read it write, she didn’t pay for anything which is why Olive end up wearing a hideous maid of honor dress. Unlike her twin Ami, Olive has been unlucky all her life. But it seems like for the first time in her likes she gets lucky. Thanks to free seafood buffet, everyone in the wedding gets food poisoning other Olive, who is allergic to shellfish, and Ethan, who is allergic to buffets. Since the all expenses paid honeymoon in Maui is not refundable and the bride and groom is too sick to go, Ami insists that Olive and Ethan should take their places. Even though, spending 10 days in paradise with your nemesis doesn’t feel right, they decided to take the vacation and avoid each other as much as possible. However, running to her future boss when Olive was playing fake Mrs. Thomas, takes their fake marriage to a new level. Olive is smart, sassy and lively. Once she started spending time with Ethan and getting to know him, she realizes that he is opposite of what she believed. He is sweet, funny and really mature. Their hate for each other just started out of some misunderstandings and misguidance. Once they cleared the air between themselves, their fake honeymoon starts to feel real because they decide to act on their attraction. The only problem is after being isolated for 10 days in paradise, they are not sure how their relationship will work in real world. Being back to real life will bring drama to their fresh relationship and reveals too many secrets out.
‘The Unhoneymooners’ is fun, entertaining and easy read. I really enjoyed the banter between Olive and Ethan. I think it would be nice to read Ami’s story as well.
Would I recommend this book: Yes.
Would I re-read this book: Maybe.
Would I read future books by this author: Yes.
Snarky, slow burning, perfection!
Olive and Ethan love to snipe at each other and that’s about all the love they have for each other…or is it? Having to take their siblings’ honeymoon in paradise means 10 days of snarky comments but it also means 10 days of getting to know one another and falling for each other.
The Unhoneymooners is a less steamy version of Christina Lauren but what it lacks in super sexy times it makes up for with a heroine who isn’t afraid to change herself for herself! I really liked the slow burn as it felt natural for the development of Olive and Ethan’s relationship. I also loved the arch of Olive’s self identification and relationship with not only Ethan but her sister and brother-in-law too.
I’m super intrigued by the epilogue and would love to see how that story developed!
I received a complimentary review copy of this book but all opinions are my own.
This was undoubtedly one of the best reads I’ve read so far this year. I couldn’t put it down. I absolutely loved the snarkiness and witty banter between the two main characters. I fell in love with it. And the inner dialogue of Olive was beyond hilarious. I wish I could be as funny as she was. Dear lord, I found myself laughing out loud so much while reading this book.
Ethan, oh dear Ethan. I can’t get over him. He goes on the list of great book boyfriends (even though he does falter a little bit). But, we are all human, so yeah, it happens. His level of snark was amazing. His comebacks and his comments – the hearts swoons.
This book was just all around relatable. Comical. Sweet. Witty. Romantic. And, of course, a little bad luck mixed in with some good luck.
The premise of the book was a great plot line. Twin sisters, two brothers, and a seafood buffet. That’s all this book needs to explain what happens in a small nutshell. The Unhoneymooners was the wittiest, sweetest, laugh out loud funny, and all around great read. I highly recommend this book to anyone!
The Unhoneymooners is probably one of my favorite books by Christina Lauren, after Beautiful Bastard. This book is pure Rom-Com gold! I haven’t laughed this much while reading a book in a while.
This book is an enemies to lovers/fake romance story. Olive and Ethan are forced to go on their siblings honeymoon after an unfortunate incident at a wedding. Olive, twin of the bride, claims to be unlucky. Especially compared to her twin sister. Despite getting to enjoy some time in paradise (which I would claim to be lucky), she has to spend it with one person she can’t stand. Her brother-in-laws brother, Ethan (aka the man she can’t stand).
While enjoying time in Hawaii, Olive and Ethan run into people they know back home and pretend to be newlyweds enjoying their honeymoon, of course they still can’t stand each other. Olive is still hurt about how Ethan treated her when they first met and Ethan, well he just thanks Olive hates him. There is an attraction between the two of them and they have great chemistry. Their banter is great throughout the story.
I absolutely love Olive and Ami’s family. They had me cracking up anytime they were involved throughout the entire story. Ami’s husband, not a fan of the man. AT ALL. I couldn’t stand him from the very beginning. He and Ethan are COMPLETE opposites of each other, but then again so are Olive and Ami.
If you are new to Christina Lauren or even if you’re not this book is MUST READ and a perfect read for the summer of 2019.
Olive has spent her whole life being the “unlucky” twin. Nothing seems to go her way and if it wasn’t for bad luck she wouldn’t have any luck at all. Olive and Ethan are forced to spend their siblings honeymoon together or it will go to waste. Even though this isn’t ideal they are both too petty to let the other one take the trip alone. Loves it!
The banter between Ethan and Olive had me cracking up the first half of the book. These two were a mess and I couldn’t get enough. As expected walls come down and they start to get along. I really liked the build up and gradual transition from enemies to friends to like. It wasn’t forced and it felt very natural.
Towards the end of the book we had some drama that made my heart hurt. I just wanted to reach in and wrap my arms around Olive. I do have to say I love the transformation Olive made in this book. It was nice to see her find her footing and gain more confidence as the story progressed.
So it’s no surprise that I’m a big fan of Christina Lauren books. I started reading them last year and I haven’t looked back since. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book and it did not disappoint. Once I started reading this book I was instantly sucked in with the writing. The story had me laughing out loud several times. I loved the big, meddling family. Needless to say I pretty much enjoyed everything about this book and I highly recommend this story.
A laugh out loud romantic comedy that will leave you wanting more.
The fun plot and characters made this book one of the best I have read this season. I literally laughed out loud while reading it. Olive’s life is filled with bad luck, while her twin sister, Ami, always wins every contest she enters. So, when Ami’s dream wedding becomes a disaster and everyone except Olive and the groom’s brother Ethan, end up with food poisoning from the buffet at the reception, Olive finally gets on the winning end of something. Olive and Ethan are given the tickets to the honeymoon in Maui that Ami had won. The only stipulation is they have to pretend to be the newlywed couple. The problem is Olive and Ethan can’t stand each other. What could go wrong?
This book was filled with hilarious scenes. There were many times when I thought Olive and Ethan’s secret would be blown, but the author quickly changed things up and continued with the adventure. I was so happy to finally see Olive and Ethan become the happy couple they deserved to be. I could relate to Olive and how she felt as I always see so many people on social media with the perfect life and winning lots of great prizes. So, I was excited to see Olive’s luck finally change and for her to have a little joy in her life. This is the first book I have read by this author, but it definitely won’t be the last.
Christina Lauren, Authors of “The UNHONEYMOONERS” has written an entertaining, witty, amusing, delightful story. The Genres for this Novel are Fiction, Women’s Fiction, Romance, and Humor. The story takes place in the present. The authors describe their characters as complex, complicated, quirky and dysfunctional.
Ami and Olive are identical twins but have different personalities. Olive considers herself unlucky and can back it up with many stories. Just be sure not to eat or be drinking anything when you read them. Ami is not only lucky, but she also has a skill of winning many contests. Her current wedding and mostly everything with it has been won in contests, and is free.
If it sounds too good to be true, you know something is up. It seems that the only two people that don’t eat from the free buffet are Olive and Ethan, the groom’s brother. Everyone else at the wedding gets severe food poisoning, and it is decided that Olive and Ethan will go on a free honeymoon. The big problem is that both Olive and Ethan have a complicated history, and consider themselves enemies. The ‘Unhoneymoon is in Hawaii.
Both decide that it will be a free vacation with no problems, but of course, little do they know. I would highly recommend this humorous book for those readers who enjoy a delightful story.
Olive Torres is a bad luck magnet… unlike her twin sister who wins every contest she has ever entered and seems to have her life completely figured out. So when said sister’s perfect wedding reception gives everyone food poisoning… Olive finds her luck might finally be changing after all, when she gets to go in her sisters place on her all-inclusive Hawaii honeymoon.
Ethan Thomas is the brother of the groom and also avoided the wedding buffet from hell. With his own promised seat on the unusable honeymoon trip, there is no way that Ethan is letting Olive take this trip out from under him… even if they have to go together…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Unhoneymooners was a highly entertaining read that had me laughing out loud one moment and my heart clenching the next. Olive and Ethan’s friction-fueled relationship had me hooked from the very beginning and kept me enthralled long after the book was over.
Olive embraces her pessimism and has come to terms with the fact that life is never going to go her way. But, with the opportunity for the (free) trip of a lifetime, she feels like maybe her luck is finally changing. Until she finds out that she has to share her trip with her nemesis, Ethan. Sure, he’s nice to look at… but that’s about where her acceptance of him ends…
Ethan has made no secret of his dislike for Olive. From their heated debates to their unconcealed disdain, this trip should be a fun one. But, something unbelievable happens when they decide to set aside their animosity and learn a little bit about each other… in and out of the bedroom…
I loved Olive and Ethan’s adorable repartee filled relationship and the completely unconventional way that they come together. Olive was hilariously awkward at lying, which was a definite problem while she was pretending to be her sister on her honeymoon. I couldn’t get enough of Olive and Ethan’s brand of banter (ahem: foreplay) and I really enjoyed all the added quirks and substance to their personalities. There was also just enough drama to make the storyline interesting and engaging… without bringing the overall mood of the story too far down.
Funny, sexy and comprised of a fantastic plot and the always incredible writing of Christian Lauren, The Unhoneymooners is the next must read book you have been waiting for.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren …I thoroughly enjoyed this book… thanks so much to the publisher and #NetGalley for allowing me to preview it. It grabbed me from the very beginning…I laughed so much I hated to put it down at all. Ethan( older brother to Dane) Olive (twin sister to Ami who is marring Dane) There are also a lot of wonderful family members…This books is full of laughs, angst, some tears, and loads of fun and steam that take you on a wonderful journey to a HEA.
When I saw the cover and read the synopsis for The Unhoneymooners I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. Not only was it a funny and entertaining enemies to lovers romance, but it also had so much heart. I loved how important the bonds of family (for better and for worse) were in this story. Olive’s family especially was such a treat and I really enjoyed this glimpse into the Mexican-American family.
Ethan and Olive did some serious verbal sparring through this book and they really lived up to the “enemies” portion of the trope. They each gave as good as they got and I loved their banter and back and forth. The forced proximity trope is always a fun one and seeing Ethan and Olive’s impression of the other evolve and change as they spend more time together was wonderful. It’s amazing how one look or moment can change the course of an entire relationship.
As much as I enjoyed The Unhoneymooners, I can’t say that I completely loved it. I think a lot of that has to do with Ethan. He certainly had some swoony moments, but honestly I’m still a little unsure how I feel about him. I don’t want to be too spoilery, but mistakes are definitely made by both Ethan and Olive and a decision late in the book had me wanting to throw my kindle across the room. I understand family loyalty, but it still hurt my heart so much. I think it really colored my opinion of Ethan and Olive’s relationship and caused me to not feel the “to lovers” part of the trope one hundred percent. I think having Ethan’s POV sprinkled into the story would have been really helpful in understanding his character better. The epilogue left me smiling though and really brought the book full circle. Overall, this was a great read and I’m already looking forward to the next Christina Lauren adventure!
*I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book*
I’m a big fan of Christina Lauren and have read most of their books. The Unhoneymooners was a fast-paced romantic comedy with likable characters. My only complaint was I wanted more interaction between the heroine and hero, Olive and Ethan. Still, I would recommend this and every book by Christina Lauren.
“The Unhoneymooners” by Christina Lauren
A fun contemporary romance. It is a entertaining story. There were times that it seemed a little long in places but that was probably because I was tired but didn’t want to stop reading… curious as to what was just around the corner.. I was gifted an ARC copy by the publisher via NetGalley and this is my opinion of this story.
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review**
The Unhoneymooners written by the awesome writing duo Christina Lauren was an entertaining, fun, flirty read! It also had its emotional, both good and bad, and heartwarming moments as well.
Olive Torres is an identical twin and while she and her sister look exactly alike, that is where their similarities end. Olive has always felt like she was unlucky. It always seems that when something negative happens she is the common denominator, whereas her twin, Ami, has luck to spare. Ami was able to win nearly everything, including the honeymoon, for her wedding.
When Olive learns she’s going to have to deal with her nemesis, Ethan Thomas, the best man and brother of the groom, she’s not thrilled. She’s known Ethan for years, but she won’t ever forget one of the first times they met and how he’s brushed her off since that time. On the day of Ami and Dane’s wedding, everyone in attendance at the reception, with the exception of Olive and Ethan, end up with food positioning, meaning the bride and groom can’t take the all inclusive honeymoon they had won. When Ami suggests that Olive and Ethan take the honeymoon in she and Dane’s place, they originally think it’s a crazy idea, but knowing what it would mean to the couple, they suck it up and decide to go.
While the trip to Maui starts off with a boatload of tension, as Ethan and Olive begin to get to know one another they realize that the original idea they had about one another was actually one big misunderstanding. As they grow closer, Ethan shares information with Olive that makes her mind race and leaves her extremely conflicted. Olive is forced to examine many of the relationships in her life, not to mention the very new one she is forming with Ethan.
As we move through the book, Olive is challenged and is given the opportunity to really take a look at her life and the things she has always thought were important. She is able to grow from the things she has to face and the tough decisions she has to make. In the end she is happy with the person she becomes, which is awesome to see.
As I said at the outset, this was a fun, flirty and entertaining romance. Christina Lauren did a great job with it and I enjoyed it very much.
Some stories are just flat out fun to read, and The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren is one of those! An entertaining romance for fans of enemies to lovers!
