— Double Carol Award-winner (Best Debut Novel, Best Historical Fiction) —Patrick Collins has three items on his Christmas list. He wants the army to find his father. He wants to leave his grandfather’s house. And he wants–very badly–the wooden soldier tucked away in his grandfather’s attic. Set at Christmastime in 1943, The Unfinished Gift is an engaging family story that reminds us of the … of the surprising things that can affect powerful change in our hearts–-like a young boy’s desperate prayers, a shoebox full of love letters, even a dusty, long-forgotten wooden soldier.

A heartwarming read for Christmas time even though it has tragic events. It shows how true faith can see us through difficult times in
I love any book by this author. Story was sad but had a great ending!!
I loved this book. You never go wrong with Dan. Only one book I could’nt finish when the dog was mistreated by the drug dealer. I couldn’t continue.
A great book! A little boy with great faith in God that he learned from his mom. He changed his grandfather’s life.
I’m never disappointed with Dan Walsh.
This had its share of storylines that I found myself staying up too late to find out what happened next.
Reminded me of my mom’s stories about rationing & the bread lines & my father’s WWII stories.
Excellent book. Wonderful Christian about tragedy and trust in God. Best book I have read i a while.
Author created unique characters that were different to typical scenarios enjoyable read kept you wanting to follow the story to read the final outcome.
Dan Walsh did outstanding again!
Loved it!
Loved this story. Shows how love can change a person from the inside out and how that love comes from Jesus. Story was well written and a few tears were shed when Grandpop read letters he shouldn’t have read. God works in mysterious way…..
This is hands down my favorite Christmas book. While grandpa starts out as a mean old man he learns a few lessons on being a grandfather to a lonely little boy who’s dad is away during WWII. A eye opener as to the time period. Although you don’t want to live during the war time it makes you nostalgic for the Christmas era the book is set in.
Dan Walsh is such a great story teller.
This was a very nice story!. I loved it!!
Heartwarming tale for the holidays
I have never read a book by this author that I didn’t like. This book was not superficial. it had substance. It was realistic.
Make you think how one action or reaction can change a life.
A very heart felt read. I love how Dan Walsh weaves history into his stories. You feel like you’re in 1943 while you’re reading.
God forgives us, as we forgive others.
Good Christmas story, pretty predictable but enjoyable. Haven’t read the sequel
This is a wonderful story of family stress both from fractured relationships and from WWII. Dan Walsh is gifted with the ability to portray human emotions clearly and build his story around them. Seeing an isolated and bitter man coming to value family and friends through one little boy was rewarding. I enjoyed the story, including the view of life as it was in the 40’s.
