The Uncanny Valley…
“… is a macabre serenade to a small town that may or may not exist, peopled with alive and dead denizens who wander about the hills and houses with creepy fluidity. Told by individual inhabitants, the stories recount tales of disappearing dead deer, enchanted gardens, invisible killer dogs, and rattlesnakes that fall from the sky; each contribution adds to a composite … composite portrait that skitters between eerie, ghoulish, and poignant. Miller is a master storyteller, clearly delighting in his mischievous creations.”

A well written read, reminiscent of early Stephen King.
I absolutely loved this book. The premise is fresh and intriguing and the execution does not disappoint. The characters are interesting, including the town itself that truly becomes the most dominant character in the book. If you’re looking for something a bit creepy and utterly involving, I recommend checking out this book!
An amusing and interesting set of tales, though not really scary. It’s not so much trying to be “scary” most of the time as surreal and otherworldly, in which it succeeds. The attempts at horror in some of the stories are not as successful. The author also does well in writing the different chapters in different voices, and I enjoyed the …
You cannot skip the prologue to this book, it’s like walking you into the Twilight Zone. It’s like your sifting through a bunch of stories your boss told you to go through to find the one good one. However, you soon discover you’ve fallen through time and space and will you ever get home?
Excellent writing! Although most of the 33 stories are too brief to even be classified as short stories, they are all incredibly well written – several being quite beautiful. I rarely actually laugh out loud while reading, but there were many laughing moments of somewhat dark humor. This was a beautiful surprise book to me, and I am adding this …
Weird and wonderful.
Fun and funny
Different idea of telling the story. Held my interest. Lots of twists.
I latched on right away and although I can see why some might not “get it” I thought it was fun and creepy. It was a quick read which is sometimes a better experience especially when you’re looking to jump right in. There is no major investment time so you can pick it up and it just flows. It scared me at times…like a jump rather than a drawn …
Great concept and an easy read. And some of the stories are really twisted!
Great collections of short stories that were all connected at the end. Was reading aloud on family vacation to my grandchild and when I looked up, all the family was listening. Shows what good writing can accomplish.
This is a fun book if you like to take a few minutes and read a quick story or two. The premise of having the people of Uncanny Vally submit 2000 word stories to a newspaper contest is different. The writing is well done and the stories interesting, funny, and weird.
I loved that these stories were written from the viewpoint of the writer. And that the stories weren’t edited for grammar or spelling. So if the story was written by a child or a young person, the spelling or grammar errors were left alone and the reader could read the story as written. Some very haunting and uncanny stories.
This was very different from your usual horror stories. The characters are unique, and their town is definitely one of a kind. It was very enjoyable reading, and I hope there will be more stories coming from the Uncanny Valley.
All of the above in short short vignettes. A fun read
Did not realize is was a bunch of short stories, not my type of book.
A fun little read.
Quick read — fun way to read off a little stress.
Very different. Great read. Wanted more
