Turned out he only wanted to get his hands on my daddy’s company. Heartbroken, I ran away with nothing but the clothes on my back. Like a twisted Cinderella. When my father dies, leaving my sisters in a desperate situation, it’s up to me to help … to help them.
I’ll have to beg the man who broke my heart to save us.
But Clayton hasn’t forgotten me and what he wants in exchange for his help is…my body, my heart and my soul.

Last week I was going through facebook when I saw a post the author shared with the prologue and i loved it so much I purcahsed the book thinking I would read it when I could. I picked it up last night and read it in one sitting. I loved it! A second chnance romance with a sexy and broken aplha who only wants one woman and the woman he hurt. On the night of their engagemennt, Veronica could not be any happier, she loves Clayton and she believes he will come to love her. Then she overhears one conversatoin and everything changes.
Five years laters she is back and he is determined to have her. At any cost. I devoured this story and just loved Veronica and Clayton. He was so cold and distant, but she drew him in a way no other woman ever did. An angst-filled and emotional second chance romance I loved!
Happy reading1
I read a blurb of this book on social media and it hooked me to the point that I put down the book I was reading and I went and got this book to read it. Let just say this book is everything and a box of chocolates! It’s 5 stars and more. We start out meeting Veronica who at 22 was deeply in love with Clayton who works with her father. She thinks he also loves her and that is why they are engaged. Of course, her evil stepmom arranges for her to find out otherwise. Fast forward into the future and they meet up again once her crusty father has passed away when she needs to come how along with her sister Bea for the reading of the will. As with life, things do not go as they should. Their other sister Sabrina was a celebrity of sorts and it appears she is home because of someone bothering her. Ronnie (Veronica) always takes care of her sisters before herself and to do that she needs either her half-brother to show up out of the blue or to give in and do something she said she’d never ever do’ again.
So many things could have been solved years before if Clayton had just not been so scared to speak up or not ashamed of his background. Anyways I do recommend this book. There are a couple of boo-boos in it but other than that it is really well written and I am off to read the next book in this series. The great thing was it is on Kindle Unlimited so I can grab it and read it and then go grab the next one and so forth. Yea.
An overheard conversation sends Veronica running from her fiance, father, and family ranch. The next time she sees her fiance he tells her that her father is dead and she needs to come for the reading of the will.
It’s amazing how much family can screw with our lives and how far we will go to make sure they can. The author writes her characters so realistically that they feel like people you know. Veronica’s sisters are just as damaged as she is, just in different ways.
The story is good and the characters are well-written and also flawed. The author does a good job of making you route for everyone because everyone needs a cheerleader. I enjoyed the story and would like to know more about the brother who got away.
This was my first Molly O’Keefe’s book, and won’t be my last. This is the first book in The King Family, a Series written by three authors. The cover is beautiful and attractive! Clayton and Veronica (Ronnie)’s second chance to love is well written. They share a strong chemistry. The secondary characters are interesting. The storyline has twists and turns, and secrets. I loved the ending. Heather Firth and Iggy Toma did a great job with the narration. They both have a great voice. Iggy Toma is a new narrator to me. Heather Firth is one of my favorite narrators. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listen to the next books in the Series: Book 2 The Bodyguard by S. Doyle (Sabrina’s story), Book 3 The Bastard by Julie Kriss (Dylan’s story), Book 4 The Cowboy by Molly O’Keefe (Bea’s story), and Book 4.5 One Last Chance, a novella by Molly O’Keefe.
Veronica comes from a wealthy Texas family, She lost her mother at a young age and was raised by an unloving father.
Clayton, basically had to raise himself with a dead mother and a drunken father. Veronica’s father takes an interest
in Clayton and brings him to head the King company. The first time they become engaged is because of an agreement
Clayton and Veronica’s father make. She finds out and runs away. The next fives years show the strength and courage
Veronica has and how she takes care of her 2 sisters. Clayton does not leave the King Co. The story continues after
the death of Veronica’s father. Clayton wants Veronica back and tries to figure out a way to make it happen.
A great read with me rooting all the way for Clayton to win Veronica back. Looking forward to the next book.
I want to say I’m a sucker for a book that is well-written, well-edited, and interesting or engaging. This story had it all! I’m now a fan of this author.
This is a kindle unlimited recommendation, and it was a pretty nice little series. This whole family is chalk full of drama and problems, but you gotta love a second chance romance! This may be my favorite of the series though!
Good Book
Veronica was suppose to marry Clayton, her step monster was mad because she didn’t loose the 10 pounds. So she ends up ruining the engagement party by letting her the conversation between her dad and Clayton. She and her sister Be a ran to Austin with very little money. Their sister Sabrina went to CA, and their half brother is no where around. Dad is divorced, but now he’s dead and they have to come home, and Clayton has to prove his love.
Loved it
This was my first book by this author and I absolutely loved this book. From th first chapter this book sucked me in and I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
Second, Maybe Third Chance Phenomenon!!
Holy Smoke!! This will break your heart and put it all back together, then break it again – in the best possible way.
Three sisters Veronica, Sabrina and Bea are members of the King family. Their father is domineering, their mother has passed away and step mom Jennifer is no peach. We meet Veronica as she is on cloud-nine. She is in a n amazing relationship with Clayton from her dad’s firm. Until the cruel reality of that relationship is revealed.
Five years later, their father has passed away, and Clayton is the one to come tell Veronica. Veronica only goes to the funeral to support her sisters. Turns out her sisters need more than moral support and Clayton is the one who can ensure she can provide it; at the risk of her heart again, unless she can keep her cool exterior.
The revelations into Clayton’s background show he may not be quite the villain we had thought. Complete roller coaster, and immersion into all the relationships between sisters and Veronica and Clayton.
Stunning read!! An absolute gem of a story.
The Tycoon is the first book in the King Family Series. It’s a stand alone second chance romance with a HEA. This is Veronica and Clayton’s story and it has lots of family drama, lies, sex and betrayal. With the first word I was all in and could not pull myself away, this is a freaking awesome start to a great series. Can’t wait to read the other books. The only bad thing i could say about this book is i wish it had an epilogue…
Five years ago Veronica King’s life changed forever. She thought Clayton Rorick, a beautiful but cruel man, loved her. Instead he ruined her life when she found out “Daddy sold her to the highest bidder”. Turned out Clayton only wanted to get his hands on her daddy’s company. With a broken heart, Veronica runs away with nothing but the clothes on her back and a necklace. She pawns it and starts a new life in Austin. When her father dies, he leaves Veronica and her sisters nothing and her sisters are in a troublesome situation. So, it’s up to her to help them. Veronica will have to go to the man who broke her heart, who now owns the company and beg him to save them.
Clayton hasn’t forgotten Veronica and what he wants in exchange for his help is for her to marry him and in the process give him my heart, body and soul. Can he give me the same thing?
Second chance romances are my catnip and it’s been awhile since I’ve read a good one. Thank goodness for Molly O’Keefe. This particular story is a little unexpected. It would be easy to blame the hero for breaking the heroine’s heart and then wait with bated breath for him to redeem himself. However, the story takes on a nice little twist, and for me, that what makes this guy super special. There is a certain moodiness to this author’s writing. The way she describes scenes and emotions convey the heavy heart that the heroine (and her sisters) carry with them – all because their father is a chauvinistic narcissist. The hero lives with a constant tension of doing what is necessary and doing what is right. I loved that struggle.
The Tycoon gets 4 “very happy & excited for the rest of the series” stars from me! For being a romance, I have to say that my favorite part of this book is seeing the relationship between the three sisters as they deal with inheritance issues that unfold after their father’s passing. I loved Ronnie’s character so much. A previous disappointment with Clayton may have hardened her heart towards romance, but she was still very much a caring individual. Her desire to help women overcome life’s hardships was inspiring! She showed up for her sisters time and again and I’m looking forward to seeing that sisterly bond continue in the series. As for Clayton’s character…Wow! I loved that he was so much more than the cool businessman out to take advantage of this family during such a difficult time. As his backstory unfolded we learned that while the man may not have been great at expressing himself, he was a man that did whatever it took to take care of the people he valued in his life. In that respect, he and Ronnie were PERFECT for each other!
The Tycoon by Molly O’Keefe is the first book in the King Family series and is definitely worth reading. I’m definitely looking forward to reading more books in the great series!
Five years ago Clayton watched the woman he loved walk out of their engagement party and away from him and her father, swearing never to return again, but now she has to come back because her father has passed away and the estate has to be settled.
Veronica swore she would never return to her father’s house or have anything to do with Clayton ever again, but having her father pass away and her father’s last wishes leaving her sisters financially destitute means she must try getting along with Clayton. Getting along with him is one thing, but he is asking for her to love him again… with her heart, body and soul.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
The Tycoon is a wonderful second chance story by Molly O’Keefe. On the night of her engagement party Veronica King overheard her fiancé Clayton Rorick arguing with her father. Clay had been promised he would run the company if he married her and produced an heir. Embarrassed, heartbroken, and angry, Veronica flees from her home and fiancé. Forward five years to the death of her father where she once again encounters Clay. Clay still wants Veronica so when she and her sisters are left nothing, because they are women, Clay steps in to help.
I loved seeing how strong Veronica became, standing up for herself and taking care of her sisters. She was not “the little woman” as her father wanted to be, but a hardworking businesswoman. She worked with other women to ensure no one else ever landed in her situation, without funds. As the story progressed, we got to know Clay better, especially his back story; going from rags with an alcoholic father to riches and taking care of the now sober, stroke-stricken father. Veronica worried that Clay only wanted her body, heart, and soul with nothing in return other than helping keep her sisters out of trouble and bankruptcy without love. What she didn’t know was that Clay had loved her since the first time he saw her, back when they were in their teens. His feelings never wavered over the years and he was actually happy to be the one to marry Veronica. Despite all of the miscommunications, one thing was for sure, Clay and Veronica definitely had an electric attraction to each, one that set off sparks, along with that special chemistry.
Ms. O’Keefe wrote a wonderful love story that drew me into her book and the lives of her characters, making me forget the world around me. I had trouble putting this book down, turning page after page, not letting go until I turned the last page, still wanting more. I highly recommend this book to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
The Tycoon was a pretty good book. I liked the sisters alot. Especially Bea. Veronica and Clayton were a cute couple. I didn’t really like Veronica in the beginning. I thought she was a little weak but she made up for it towards the end of the book. Even though Bea is probably my favorite sister, I really did enjoy the romance between Veronica and Clayton. I liked Clayton and I’m so glad they got their happy ever after. I just wish the ending was a little different. I felt like more could have been written.
Molly O’Keefe is my favorite author for heroine angst; no one seems to do brittle and broken better. Her latest, The Tycoon is no exception. Veronica likes to think she’s tough, but in reality she will shatter with the least provocation. Clayton is her perfect counterpart, as I’m pretty sure is nearly as broken as she. Their journey is quite the ride. This is the first in the trilogy (actually 4 books) and I can’t wait to see them continue to put themselves back together.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.
This book was so captivating. From the minute I opened it, to the minute I finished, I was hooked. And to give you some idea of that, I have 3 kids and a puppy and I managed to read it in an afternoon/night – AND somehow cooked dinner!
The prologue chapter was so delicious – this book could have so easily had a happy ending from the get-go – which was, of course, the whole point. But even though it fell apart spectacularly, we got this amazing introduction to Ronnie and Clayton that completely set the standard going forward.
What I loved most about Ronnie was how real she was. It didn’t matter that she thought she was heavy, per se. For me, it was just the personification of flaws in general. As women, we are always going to be our worst enemies, so when you have a character who is conscious of belly jiggle, you’re sitting here going, ‘I feel you, sister!’ But what’s even better about that is when the character can adapt and begin to accept who she is – aided by a man who thinks she’s beautiful is always a plus, but the fact that it came from within was what made it special for me.
About Clayton… I loved him immediately and even after he messed up, I still couldn’t hate him. He was broody and intense and it was so apparent that he loved Ronnie with every fibre of his being – even when he couldn’t say it out loud.
The story was compelling, the writing was perfect, and the emotions were so raw and tangible. I’m so glad we get to have sibling stories too
The Tycoon is the very touching story by Molly O’Keefe that truly made me happy. A bit of a change for this author since this book is less intense than her usual, but no less engaging. The lovely prose that the Author is known for, continues in this first book about the offspring of the ruthless and very rich Hank King, and the struggle to find a bit of happy in their complicated world. With Veronica King, we get the selfless, hardworking oldest King daughter, who has found a life outside of the King’s Land after her heart is broken by her fiancee and her father. 5 years later, her world is turned upside down once again and Clayton Rorick, as her former everything decides to fight to get his Ronnie back.
I just love Veronica. Her decisions are never easy and she continues to put her sisters Bea and Sabrina first no matter what. Considering all that their father has put them through during their upbringing and early adult years, they somehow have good hearts and always stick together. Clayton is truly a unique kind of man but I loved how much he tried where Veronica was concerned to make things right despite his assumed lack of remorse at how much he hurt her while formerly engaged. Their battle of wills with the more mature and confident Veronica not caving even when she was weak with lust for the love of her life was smartly written and completely believable. But those frail attempts at not being able to resist each other proved futile (thank goodness!) and we were treated to some really steamy scenes as Clayton and Veronica attempt to find their way back to each other.
The Author puts more than one obstacle on their path to what we all hope is a happy ending with raw emotions and secrets revealed that were both heartbreaking and exasperating. Bittersweet scenes with Clayton, in particular, were heartfelt and tender and broke my heart just a little as the realization of his less than stellar youth came to light.. And it is those kinds of scenes that would not let me put this one down! I greatly look forward to more from the rest of the King crew including bastard son, Dylan, and his story as well. I have to make mention of the unique way the next two books in this series will be presented: The Bodyguard will be written by Stephanie Doyle and the The Bastard will be written by Julie Kriss. I think that is very clever and will put a different kind of spin on each story.
I loved every single moment of The Tycoon and these endearing characters have a definite fan in me. Molly O’Keefe has proven time and again that she is always willing to bring the reader not only her very best but something truly distinctive. Which is why she is a go-to author for me.
5 solid stars!
This book grabs you from the first page and basically just keeps on rolling. Veronica King is the oldest of Hank King’s children, but by no means his favorite, or even close to it. Hank has four children by several different mothers as he was regularly unfaithful and basically wanted a son. Veronica is about to be married to Clayton, who works for her father and is captivated and madly in love with him and his bedroom performances. On the night of their engagement party, Veronica overhears a conversation that changes the course of her live and she leaves the ranch, vowing never to return. Five years later, Clayton shows up to let her know that her father has died and that she should come home for the funeral and the reading of the will. Reluctantly she does, and once again, her father has managed to show his feelings for her and the fact that she is a girl. This book dragged you in and kept you turning pages to the very end. I am greatly looking forward to further books in the series.
