The suggested reading level for The Twin is grades 7-9, and I can definitely see kids that age enjoying this book. That’s why I gave it four stars. As for how I enjoyed this book, reading it as an adult, I would be giving it two stars.
Natasha Preston did a wonderful job keeping the twists coming and the gas lighting to a maximum. I can see middle schoolers really being creeped out by Iris’s actions and enjoying the relationship between Ivy and her boyfriend, Ty.
The Twin reminded me of all the Fear Street books I read by R.L. Stine when I was in middle school, it’s predictable, but at that age, kids love reading the same type of stories over and over… and even as adults, there are some people who will only read the same genre.
I can see both young adults and adults not enjoying the ending. I know I didn’t. It made me angry. But after I let my anger steep a bit, I came to like the ending. Life is rarely fair, so why should I expect a book to be the same? And if I want a happy ending I can always read a cozy mystery or a romance novel.
Now to review this book as an adult…. The first 20% of the book is Ivy going on about her mother’s death and wanting to give Iris space. If Prest0n w0uld have toned that down to 5% of the book and took the extra 15% and added it to the ending to flesh it out more and to not have it be over so quick, I think that would have really improved the book.
And I just couldn’t get over how mature Ivy and Ty’s relationship was. Their communication is better than a lot of adults I know! It just didn’t feel real to me at all. I did like that this could show middle schoolers what goals to set for your relationships though. Then there’s the point that even with how solid their relationship is, Ty who seems to be on Ivy’s side, just suddenly isn’t. This really ticked me off, and I think could have added another layer to the store if he would have continued to believe in Ivy.
Since Ivy is a straight A student, and seems to be street smart as well as book smart, I just could reconcile the fact that it took her so long to see how devious her twin was. I would think since they hadn’t lived together for over six years it would be even easier to see through Iris’s lies and schemes.
If you know middle schoolers who love to read suspense, they will probably really enjoy The Twin. But if you’re an adult and read a lot of suspense and thrillers, you may want to try You are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkenan instead!
This book had a terrible ending !!!
Did NOT like the ending, but the rest was a page turner, as are all of her books. If not for the ending, I would have given it a 5.
This book was good but not nearly as Suspenseful has her other books
Didnt expect the ending!
this was okay, not very good. the characters were good and the story line was just okay.
I loved the plot of this book and it had a a fantastic ending but there are a few things that are the reason I rated it a 3.
First off the first like 25% is about her mom dying and her sister moving in and the how she isn’t jealous but this and that. and it is very repetitive.
Then there could have been more detail I mean I barley new what her friends looked like and the cheerleaders and the not so important but still important
This is a great book and was well thought through and other books by Natasha are wonderful and 100% better compared to this one, though her suspenseful and twisted writings will always be some of my favorites and I can’t wait to read my next Thriller by her!!
The Twin was another great read by Natasha Preston. Ivy and Iris are 10 year old twins that were split up when their parents divorced. Ivy went with their dad, while Iris went with their mom. The twins are reunited when an accident take their mother’s life. The first few weeks Iris is in silence but will only speak to Ivy. Iris feels as though her life is over but Ivy promises that they can share their lives now. Iris took that seriously and started taking over Ivy’s friends, school life and her boyfriend Tyler. Ivy is afraid that their mother’s accident may not have been an accident after all. This was a great read by Natasha Preston.
Natasha Preston is the queen of the YA thrillers. Oh. My. Goodness. I knew going in that this story would be full of twists and turns and I adore how this author isn’t afraid to write unconventional storylines. I haven’t been able to put this book down all day, and I am currently feeling devastated at how the story unfolded for one of the twins.
I was gutted for Ivy and Iris when a tragic event occurred within the family. Losing someone close to you affects people in different ways so when the girls grieved differently, that wasn’t totally unexpected especially as they didn’t have the same relationship with each of their parents. Once the mind games and incidences started occurring, I couldn’t stop reading. I needed to know what was going to happen next and it was agonising at times witnessing what was happening with the twins.
I would advise you to go into this book blind and discover everything that this story has to offer for yourself. I loved the mind games. I loved the unpredictability of what would happen next. I loved the drama that held my attention throughout. I award The Twin 4.5 stars and a recommendation for you to read this book. I have no doubts that you will enjoy this story too!
Teen novel about twins who have lived apart due to their parents’ divorce. Now that their mother has died, Iris moves in with Ivy and their father. Iris proceeds to infiltrate herself into Ivy’s life, taking over Ivy’s friends and her life.
No one believes Ivy that Iris is manipulating them. It all builds to an explosive ending-one of obsession – and it is sad what one can do to take over another’s life.

It was predicable and a little boring.
i think this was a very very very very very very very good book
I was immediately drawn in by the blurb. Since their parents divorce, twins Ivy and Iris have lived apart. But when their mother dies, Iris moves in with Ivy and their Dad. Almost immediately Iris’s seemingly perfect life is turned upside down. I really enjoyed THE TWIN and I am looking forward to exploring the works of Ms. Preston. That ending though…. I’m ok when things aren’t tied up nicely in a bow but damn!
This was a really interesting and unique physiological
thriller. I’ve read many different types, and I haven’t
read any in a while that have ended the way this one
did. It had many twist and turns, a little dark, and with
an ending that’ll leave you feeling many different emotions.
I’m having a hard time with this review. The story was good – really good. But… slight spoiler alert…I HATE the ending. What a horrible way to end a book. I can only hope it’s book one and there will be another one coming to finish the story, otherwise, that’s just really an awful way to end a book. I’m actually kind of mad about all the time I invested in this story because of it.
If there is a book two, I’ll definitely read it, because I need some closure. The author does a great job of drawing the reader in and spinning this crazy story.
Ivy and her twin sister, Iris, will now be living together for the first time in six years. When their parents divorced, Iris went to live with their mother and Ivy chose to live with their Dad. Sadly, an accident has claimed the life of their mother which means both girls will be living with their Dad.
As they try to adjust to their loss, Iris is thrust into a new school filled with lots of Ivy’s friends. Ivy is happy to have her sister with her and introduces her to her friends. As they have different scholastic and sports preferences, Ivy is surprised when Iris wants to join Ivy’s classes.
Soon, Ivy realizes that Iris is trying to get cozy with her friends and tries to make her look bad. But when some things happen to make Ivy feels that someone is after her, she becomes fearful. Is Iris trying to make her look foolish in front of her friends or is something even more sinister going on?
A clever young adult mystery that should appeal to teens. Quite frankly, I did not realize that it was a teen book when I requested it because that’s not a favorite genre for me. However, I feel the author did a good job.

Ivy and Iris are twins. They are separated when their parents divorce. Ivy stays with their dad, Iris goes with their mother. When their mom is killed in what seems to be a freak accident, Iris comes to live with Ivy and their dad.
Iris slowly seems to take over Iris’s life. She makes it seem as if Ivy is mentally unstable and jealous. As she starts creating drifts between Ivy and her friends, she also causes a rift between Ivy and their father. Looking into Iris, her old friends, and certain situations, Ivy comes to believe that there is something seriously wrong with Iris. She may even be a cold blooded killer.
I loved this book! While I always felt that Ivy was the sane one of the two, I sometimes doubted her myself. The story line was great. I would label it as a psychological thriller. I couldn’t put the book down, it was a page turner. The only thing that I didn’t like was the ending. I don’t want to give it away for someone who hasn’t read it, but this book is crazy good. Emphasis on crazy!!
Omg!! This was an insane story!! I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I started reading this one but man oh man what a ride it took me on. Kept me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning. And I definitely didn’t see that ending coming.
The Twin will take you on a ride that you will not want to stop. I loved every moment of this one. I couldn’t put it down. I even was yelling by the end of this one. Such a fantastic read. You feel for everything Ivy goes through and you just want to even help Iris along the way. Iris and Ivy bound as twins is never really there. You get why when you realize they were separated during their parents divorce. You really have to read this one for yourself because if I say anything more about this I’ll give everything away. Go one click this thriller today and be kept on your toes the entire read.
The Twin is an young adult psychology thriller by Natasha Preston. Twins Ivy and Iris choose to live with different parents when they divorce. The death of thier mother has them both living at home with thier dad. Things begin to happen and the plot is easy to follow along with but the ending was not what I was expecting. A very enticing book.
