A wonderfully twisty exploration of memory and its fragility, and of obsession and its tentacles. Kyra is a marine biologist who loses her memory of recent events in a diving accident at the appropriately-named Deception Pass (a real place) in Puget Sound. Her very attentive husband has the means and motivation to take care of her. But as her memory starts to return, Kyra begins asking questions that could put her in even deeper danger, in deeper waters. Good pacing and use of an intriguing setting that suits the story neatly.
This was the first book I’ve ever read like this and it was such a quick read.
**I received ARC of The Twilight Wife in exchange for an honest review.**
A loving couple, a beautiful island home, what could be better? Things are not always what they seem. Gripping, you will never see it coming! It’s been quite a while since I’ve been thrown for a loop by a book, it was a terrific spin.
By the end I found myself speaking out loud to Kyra, much the same way you might tell the person in a horror movie “Don’t go in there”.
Once again A.J. Banner does not disappoint.
Kyra has a diving accident and has lost her memory. Her husband Jacob has taken her away to remote island to recover. But as Kyra starts to remember things, the answers don’t seem to add up. Once Kyra finds the key to unlocking her memory, the book takes a turn and doesn’t slow down from there.
Banner’s mystery will leave you guessing all the way through. Set in the pacific Northwest, the setting becomes part of the stakes.
This is a wonderfully crafted story!!!
The Twilight Wife was a great psychological mystery, very suspenseful! I enjoyed the way that everything was a mystery to the main character as well as to the reader. The story is about Kyra, who is a marine biologist. Kyra suffers from memory loss from a diving accident she was in. She can’t remember the recent past years. The story starts with Kyra living with her husband Jacob on a remote island. They are spending some time at their house there in the hopes that the seclusion will help Kyra rest and recover. Kyra starts remembering bits and pieces as the days go by. The memories are confusing to Kyra at first. But slowly, her old life comes back to her and what she remembers will shock her!
What didn’t I love about this book? NOT ONE THING!!
A perfect, realistic psychological thriller. Scary, intense and unpredictable. I would have loved to slowly savor this read, but it is impossible. Should be a movie. Absolutely a winner for A.J.Banner!
Author, AJ Banner, has done it again! This book was a whirlwind of twists that left me pleasantly flabbergasted! I love when a book completely surprises me and this one definitely did. Banner weaves a creepy tale of the aftermath of an accident that leaves the main character with amnesia. The writing is so good that the protagonist’s panic was tangible. I can’t wait to see what is next from this author!
Captivating, interesting, page turning. Kept me guessing most of the way. Lovable characters, even the bad guys! I definitely recommend this book.
“The word twilight suggests falling away into darkness, the strange, dreamlike in-between time, when day isn’t quite finished and night hasn’t quite begun. Kyra hovers in that limbo, not entirely herself without her memory and plunging into a terrifying night as her life unravels. However, she also finds beauty and hope in twilight. She remembers magical nights, when she walked the beach and discovered unusual marine species beneath the moonlight. And night always becomes day again. Darkness leads to dawn. She discovers her own inner strength and reclaims her life.” -online author Q&A
The Twilight Wife is a standalone, psychological suspense novel written by author A.J. Banner. After suffering a head injury, the heroine is struggling with memory loss. As with other novels with a similar plot, she comes across information, people, and experiences that challenge the memories she has been told. The Twilight Wife felt very familiar to me (think Before I Go to Sleep), but I very much enjoyed A.J. Banner’s detail to the heroine’s line of work as a marine biologist. This addition added lovely visuals for me while reading and even prompted me to look up a few terms/sea life words I had never heard of before. Although the bulk of this book isn’t something I hadn’t read before, I certainly don’t regret reading it. Check it out!
My favorite quote:
“None of us is bound by the past.”
Not the best of the genre—fine, but nothing to recommend

I enjoyed this book although I did feel that I knew the way it would end from the beginning,
Wow! Such an unpredictable story. Held my interest to last page.
