Over the next hours and days, Alex and his companions tend his wounds and use their resilience, ingenuity, and dogged perseverance to reach help at a remote village a thousand miles north of the US-Canadian border.
The Twenty-Ninth Day is a coming-of-age story like no other, filled with inspiring subarctic landscapes, thrilling riverine paddling, and a trial by fire of the human spirit.

For a true fact book, it was ok.
Very slow getting started but second half very interesting.
Based on true story.
I was impressed at the maturity of this seventeen year old boy in a frightening, serious situation. Most of us would have given up after the first attack of the bear. His will to survive and the true friendship of his mates to get him through were truly inspiring.
Liked it. True story with interesting insights into geographical area and animal behavior.
Pretty boring except for one part
Well told story that moved along!
They took the trip I always wanted to make
I liked it. Slow start with great ending
Very interesting and fast read.
Great recounting of high-adventure in the Canadian north. Story of teamwork, friendship, and terrific endurance….along with dealing with a Grizzly attack.
Well written memoir of a once in a lifetime trip that could have ended tragically. Even though I have no interest in a canoe trip in northern canada, his descriptions of his group’s challenging adventure kept me turning the pages. What an extraordinary young man!
I thought this book was very slow to get into..not really my kind of book
Riveting. So detailed could vividly imagine being there. Very challenging siuation
An amazing adventure into a wilderness area very few venture into. I was impressed with the knowledge and determination these young men possessed. The encounter with the grizzly bear was frightening and I had to remind myself this young man was only 17. His strength and character were remarkable. Great book!
It was a great read. Best outdoor adventures from the comfort of your home. Descriptive graphic, a travel book which is entertaining and absorbing. National geographic quality read.
Like NIGHT OF THE GRIZZIES…..non fiction man vs nature adventures are often better than anything than can be imagined. The beginning seemed to drag a bit until I was able to see how the author, who was subsequently mauled, was effectively setting the scene: a bunch of teens in an unbelievably remote and harsh environment. The author descriptions were chilling, stark and beautiful. Well done!
This book gave me a lot of information about canoeing through rapids and got me really invested in Alex before and after the bear attack. Glad he and the bear survived.
This book keeps you interested as to what adventures would follow.it also shares the view of the wilderness in Canada and then the strength of a 17 year old and his 28 year old leader under difficult circumstances.
Very exciting true story which kept me turning pages!
