Quinn is a loyal soldier of Farset, willing to risk her life on behalf of her country and squad. So, when a fellow soldier volunteers for a dangerous mission, Quinn joins him. Their assignment is to investigate the nightly disappearance of the twelve royal princesses, a mystery none have solved as those who attempt it vanish. But when she follows the girls, Quinn uncovers the truth: the … princesses are cursed, and they’re not alone.
Emerys, the sarcastic and brash King of the Elves, has lost all hope. His people have been prisoners in their own forest for years, and night after night an unbreakable curse forces them to dance and celebrate against their will. But everything changes when Quinn saves Emerys’ life and the pair form an unlikely friendship. Together, they just might be able to free the princesses and the elves.
However, those who cursed the elves will do anything to keep them restrained. And if Quinn breaks the spell, she may pay for it with her life.
Will she succeed? Or will Emerys and the elves be lost…forever?
THE TWELVE DANCING PRINCESSES is a fairy tale retelling and the tenth book of the TIMELESS FAIRY TALES series. Filled with magic, unbreakable curses, elves, and witty banter, it can be enjoyed as an individual stand-alone book, but will be most enjoyable if read after other books from the series. If you enjoy tales of strong heroines, sweet romance, and magical adventures, download a sample or buy it today!

This is my all-time favorite (so far) of K. M. Shea’s books. I read this one 4 times while on maternity leave and several more times since then. Quinn and Emrys are two of my favorite characters from the Timeless Fairy Tales series. It was also fun to follow a female soldier as the main protagonist.
I love all of KM Shea’s alternative fairy tales – strong female characters, flawed but interesting male characters, well-defined and logical world, and each book is different – not the same formula over and over. Definitely written for young adults, but every adult I’ve recommended these books to has enjoyed them, even some 60-year olds. The only problem – have to wait for the next book to come out in December, and I understand it will be the last in the series. I highly recommend you read them in order, because characters from previous books show up.
This whole series is wonderfully done.
Oh, my word! This is my favorite out of the series. I loved the action and the adventure. Also, there are finally answers to some of the questions that have been brought up slowly throughout the series.
Emerys and Quinn are so cute together. The storyline in these last two books has really piqued my interest. I want to know more about the Chosen. Where has Lord Enchanter been all this time and will they ever find him?
While I did say this answered some questions, it didn’t answer all of them. But there may have been new light shed on them and I have some guesses of what it could be but I have to read the next book which I think is the final book.
I want this to end but I don’t want it to end.
An original and imaginative retelling!
I have always wondered why the 12 dancing princesses were cursed. This author came up with plausible explanation. They weren’t cursed; they just fell into someone else’s curse. The curse in question is almost like a virus – it proved to be amazingly contagious, with a cure that was almost impossible to arrange. At least this cure, though very painful, was original – I completely appreciate Enchantress Angelique’s desire to scream over “true love’s kiss”. How trite can you get?
Good retelling of the 12 dancing princesses. I liked the main character, Quinn and her band of Gallant. I liked seeing more of the Elf King and the continuation of Angelique’s story. You can read this book as a stand alone, but it’s a good series and you’ll get the back story on some characters if you start with the first book.
This was my favorite one so far! But it better not be the end of the series or I will die!!!! Quinn and Emerys aren’t your average couple, but they really work. I love that the 12 dancing princesses are almost a side bar in this story! I also think someone needs to get Angelique a spa weekend stat! I’m so hooked on this universe! And it had a little twist I didn’t see coming!
This book is part of a wonderful series of fairytale inspired books set in the same world with a certain amount of character overlap and a definite continuous plot that allows them to be read alone and in a series. They are well written happy, clean, books with enough peril to make them interesting. I would love to be friends with many of the characters. Good people, good stories, and good writing.
I have been reading this author, and her various series, amongst my other reading materials. I have found these books to be delightful short novels, with witty, entertaining characters who keep me laughing and keep me ready to see what’s coming next. This book keeps up that tradition in the best sense! While all books in this series are made to be enjoyed as stand-alones, the rising drama of the series is reaching nearly the climax in 12 Dancing Princesses. However, instead of being another fairy tale retelling, the main drama of this book is even more original. I hope you fall as in love with Quinn and Emerys as I did!
Loved it!! Love everything K M Shea writes. I am really going to hate when this series ends.
