The Truth in My Lies by Ivy Smoak is the First book in The Secrets of Suburbia series. This is the story of Adeline Bell.
Adeline’s is married to an abusive man but he leaves for business during the week which gives her a little freedom to jog in the mornings. A few months ago on Thursday’s she starts to see a young man mowing the neighbor’s lawn. So Thursdays start to be her favorite day just to watch him…Ben Jones while she is jogging. But then she accidentally falls which brings Ben to come to her aid and he soon learns that she is being abused by her husband.
This is a suspenseful drama so a little of the romance path but overall enjoyed their story.
Great book! Truly original. You won’t want to put it down until you’ve read the complete book.
Lots of twists and turns, but if you are paying attention you might see where it is going. A good read never the less.
Weird but fantastically great way of telling a fantastically great story. So glad I had the opportunity. From beginning to end you will be mystified and then shocked at the end. Not giving out any clues or spoilers; just read it!
This book was incredible! This was the first suspense I read by Ivy, as I’d read her romance books, so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. This book did not disappoint. I read so much that with a lot of books, I can anticipate the plot twists coming, but I can honestly say that Ivy shocked me with this book. I read this book in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down. A must read if you like to be kept on the edge of your seat with a great story!
This story started out great, expecting something similar to Ms Smoak’s other books. This was more suspense than romantic. Although I couldn’t put it down, the ending was rushed, not what I was expecting and actually left me hanging with lots of loose ends. I wasn’t sure if the husband was real in present time. What happened to Ben? I’m feeling cheated! I’m hoping Book 2 of this series will offer some resolution. I enjoyed the story although Adeline definitely seemed psychotic even though I found myself not wanting her to be.
This is a very good romantic suspense story. I totally recommend it. Never expected how it ends. as much as it is nice to be a standalone but I really hope Ivy Smoak give us what happens later to the main characters, some is cleared in book 2 but never enough.
Different kind of book. Kind of guessed the ending, but not sure till the end.
Fans of “Gone, Girl” will love the twists and turns of this book. Definitely did not see this ending coming!
Great story! One of the best books I have ever read. Unexpected plot twists. I highly recommend.
Very Different from Ivy’s normal style. Good read
A bit rushed at the end.
completely sucked me in
This book had me guessing till the end!!!!!! Loved it!!!!
The story drew me in. Then I find there is another, so I had to buy that to find out the rest of the story.
It was written very well. Great twists and turns. Not at all what I was expecting. It defInitely kept me guessing and thinking long after I finished reading it.
This is a great book. I didnt want to put it down.
I really enjoyed this book! It’s quite different from other suspense stories I’ve read. It’s dark, twisty and yet somehow filled with a little bit hope. I loved all the twists and turns this journey took me on! I couldn’t figure things out which was awesome!
Adeline is a woman with a past and present that would make anyone crazy. I felt for her at times, was shocked often and yet still felt for her on some level. Ben is a good man that I easily understood and felt for. The roller-coaster these two had me on was exciting.
The writing flowed smoothly and was easy to follow. I couldn’t figure anything out early on, which is a plus for me. And that ending! It left my heart racing and was set up wonderfully to transition into book two of this series.
I truly got into this book and trying to put the pieces together before the story was over proved to be impossible. Ivy Smoak is a new to me author and I’m really glad I was introduced to her work!

5/5
I started The Truth in My Lies and got sucked in from the start. Adeline is housewife whose only excitement comes on her Thursday morning run when she gets to see the one man who holds her interest. It’s been a while since I’ve read Ivy Smoak and I forgot how great her writing is. This book did not go anywhere I thought it would. The Truth in My Lies has so many twists, turns, lies and partial truths that you start to question Adeline and her reality. I don’t want to ruin anything in this book but if you’re looking for a romantic suspense that’s dark, twisted and messes with reality then pick up The Truth in My Lies. It’s unlike anything I’ve read before.
I received a copy of this book for free. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Wowza! As a free Kindle download, I didn’t have high hopes, but this was definitely better than expected. In fact, it was a real page turner. So many twists, so many surprises, I couldn’t read fast enough to figure out what was going on. The protagonist was completely unreliable to the point that you never knew what was truth and what was imagined. I enjoyed it enough that it would have been a five-star read for me until the final chapter or two.
***Spoiler Alert***
The resolution/final twist was just too, too far out there, and there was just no way I was buying that most of the book was fantasy — her husband, her therapist, all those scenes with them were just imagined? She had killed them years ago?! And if the wonderful Ben (32 going on 23, also very unbelievable) was really an FBI agent investigating HER, suspecting HER, watching HER via cameras, there’s just no way that he would have fallen for her, kissed her, lusted after her, if he were any kind or normal human being. I’m just not buying that a professional government agent would fall for a suspected serial killer, no matter how pretty she was.
If I were better able to suspend disbelief and logic, I would have loved this book more than I did. As it was, I still loved it, but only at a four-star level. Definitely a fun read, though!
