Steamy, sexy, and laugh-out-loud funny, THE TRUTH ABOUT COWBOYS is a new contemporary novel that will pull your heartstrings and steam up your e-reader… While I was off pitching in the big leagues, my family was back in the small town of Sweetwater, Texas, running the family ranch. Then tragedy hit and I discovered there were secrets that my family kept, problems they hid. I went home, left … went home, left behind the money, women, and fame. I took over the ranch and took care of my grandmother. I took over hiding the secrets. Then she came to town. A smart-mouthed, clumsy, too-smart-and-too-pretty-for-my-own-good city girl hiding out to write a book. She’s right here, on my property, in the cottage my grandmother rented her without my permission, and she sees too much. She knows too much.
Now suddenly my world is spinning, and she’s shoving a baseball back in my hand while baking cookies with my grandmother. She’s the devil and an angel all in one fiery little package. I decide I’ll wait her out. She’ll go back to the city. Only suddenly I don’t want her to leave, and everything I’ve settled for in my life isn’t enough. I want to play ball and I want her, but there’s that secret that won’t let go, but neither will she.
Each book in the Texas Heat series is STANDALONE:

When Jessica rents out a cabin where she can get away from her city life, her cheating ex, where she can clear her mind, she doesn’t think a hot cowboy will be the real owner of the cabin. Nor does she think she’ll come to love that hot (but rude) cowboy!
The Truth About Cowboys is equal parts funny, sexy AND frustrating. I say frustrating because the push and pull between Jessica and Jason is…well, frustrating. He really is the asshole cowboy, I gotta say. He’s so quick to accuse, so quick to judge, and he takes it all out on poor Jessica. I do like how she gives as good as she gets, though, but honestly, I kinda thought she was too good, too easy-going, for him. She deserved better. But their chemistry was smokin’, the story was fun and witty, and Jason’s Grandma was the absolute star of the whole story!! I freakin’ love her! Also *hint hint* I thought Roarke (Jason’s friend) was really interesting. If his story is next, I will be 1-clicking it in a heartbeat!

This was such a refreshing book. It had me smiling and laughing pretty much from the get go as these two characters kept going head to head. There is a fine line between love and hate and that is certainly true here. I loved, loved, loved the interactions between Jessica and Jason, with the added bonus of Martha, Jason’s grandmother.
Jessica is escaping to the country after her city life spectacularly imploded when she found her ex in bed with his assistant. In her down time from being a divorce lawyer she will be using the time to write a book about divorce. Jason is a cowboy and an ace pitcher who returned home after the death of his parents to run the family ranch. Jessica’s arrival at the ranch cottage is unexpected and unwanted by him.
Lots of mishaps follow Jessica, lots of misunderstandings, lots of cookies, lots of tension between these two and definitely plenty of sparks. Mud and Jessica do not go together too well. In fact Jessica and nature don’t go together that well. This was a brilliant, funny and heart warming read that is just what I needed.

Jason is running his ranch he best he knows how and never considered renting his grandmothers cabin out, especially to a city girl. Needless to say when he came upon a city girl in her high boots saying she’s there to rent the cabin he doesn’t believe her. What a way to start right?
Jessica wants a quiet place to write and she can’t do that in the city where her ex-fiance is. These two are explosive together and so much that they don’t know about one another. Trust is in short supply for these two they don’t have the best track records when it comes to ex’s.
Will these two learn to trust each other before it’s too late for one of them to say enough is enough?
I loved Jason’s grandma Martha! She was funny and made me laugh and I just wanted to hug her. I was totally waiting for a cookie recipe! I loved this book and can’t wait for the next book in the next series.
This was such a Fantastic read. So entertaining! Lisa Renee Jones brings awesome hate-flirt in this enemies to lovers romance that had me smiling big time. Sparks fly and Jason meets his match, when broken-hearted, divorce attorney, “City girl” Jessica rents out a isolated cabin.
Swoon worthy hero? Check. Strong determined heroine? Check. Major attitude and animosity? Check. Being in total denial of your feelings? Oh Yeah! Interfering Grandma? Check. Check.
Jason and Jessica were so awesome together. Their animosity and heat towards one another was off the charts and I loved being absorbed into it all. Their conflicts made for the best one liners, great verbal sparing and sizzling chemistry. There were just so many great moments between them and I couldn’t get enough. These two clash and its ridiculously fantastic! I love the bickering and tension. And when they explode they explode! I also love straight shooting Grandma Martha and everything she does to throw these two together.
Get ready for some serious fun, a whole lot of of emotion, heartwarming charm, and off the charts sexy in this Incredibly Fantastic story. I’m a huge fan of Lisa Renee Jones and books like “The Truth About Cowboys” is why. It’s the kind of book you can get lost in and never want to leave. What a way to start off this series!
Jessica was on the top of her game. She was the best at her job, she had very high end clients, and she was about to make partner at her law firm. If you need to get divorced, then she’s your attorney. After finding her fiancé with another woman and calling one of her biggest clients a cheating sob, she decides a leave of absence might be a good idea to write the book she’s been contracted to write. She rents a place from a sweet little, old lady and is all set.
After hydroplaning off of the road someone stops to help her. He’s a judgmental jerk and she can’t to get away from him. How dare he mock her shoe choice? Whoopsie. Looks like he owns the place she just rented. Well, crap.
This was such a fun read. I laughed throughout this one. And it was oh, so hot.
This is a must read author for me and I believe I’ve devoured every book she’s ever written.

THE TRUTH ABOUT COWBOYS by Lisa Renee Jones is the First book in the Sweetwater Series. This is the story of Jason and Jessica.
Jason left Sweetwater, Texas to start his baseball career pitching in the big leagues. But then his parents died leaving him to take care of the Ranch and his Grandmother Martha. Jessica lived in the city and was a high powered divorce lawyer who was engaged to be married. But Jessica caught her fiancée with another women. So Jessica has did a 180 turn around and rented a cottage in the country and plans on writing a book. But when she shows up to the cottage it isn’t Martha that owns it even though she rented it to her its Jason who owns it. Of course Jessica falls in love with Martha but tempers along with some hot sparks fly between Jessica and Jason.
This was a hot funny read that I could not put down loved it!
5 Love Comes Knocking on His Door Stars!!!
What an amazing start to a new series by Ms. Jones. Jason and Jessica definitely don’t start out as the best of friends… more like frenemies and they’re not even sure how they got where they are… I was chuckling out loud when we find out how Jessica ends up on his ranch that’s for sure.
Oh and Jason is a man after my own heart….former athlete turned rancher/cowboy with a love for his land and his grandmother that results in some oh so fun run-ins with Jessica. She’s a woman that’s trying to reclaim her life and I loved that she gave it as good as it got dished out to her. There’s definitely no lack of zingers coming from either of them!!
What’s also very apparent is their attraction to each other and let me just say….holy moly I’m glad I had a fan near me when reading this one because they’re LIKE TWO FIRECRACKERS!!! What starts as a way to release the sexual tension building between them turns into so much more. Our H/h have a chance at second chances in more than just the love department and going on this ride with them was phenomenal.
I adore how they not only are themselves around each other but they manage to bring out a side of each other they both thought they had lost and they laugh along the way which just makes their relationship that much more solid.
Ms. Jones has written the perfect start to a new series and I cannot wait to see where we go next with this series!!

I really enjoyed this story. I mean how can you go wrong with a sexy cowboy. Jessica was running from the city because she needed to get away from a cheating boyfriend and her job. She goes to the country so she can write a book about surviving a divorce. She is a divorce attorney so who would know better on the subject. She meets Jason on the first night during a rainstorm. Jason is a rancher on the farm where the cottage she will be using is but he is not happy that she is there. His grandmother has a grand scheme to get these two together so he can get back to playing baseball. She wants what is best for her grandson and if it takes some tricks from her, she is all for it. This was a different type of story because Miss Jones typically writes romantic suspense but she does this story so well. I can’t wait to read more of this series.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This story from Lisa Renee Jones took me by surprise. Not in a bad way, though. I’m used to her thrillers and suspense books, but ‘The Truth About Cowboys’ hit me in my funny bone continuously as I started reading. It’s not something I expected to find but Lisa certainly handled the quirky banter, snarky comments between Jason and Jessica with aplomb.
Both characters have been burned by past relationships, Jason so much so, that he’s sworn off having another one. Jessica just wants to hide from hers. They spark and fizzle from the moment they meet. They have a slow start but are soon burning up the sheets and anywhere else they feel like even though there was still a push and pull feeling about them.
I loved Jason’s grandmother’s character too. She was fun and a big highlight to the story. For me, The Truth About Cowboys, is, they may be a**ho!es but they are sexy as sin and hotter than Hades. Grab your copy and see for yourself.
This is the 1st book in a new series from this talented author, and is about Jason and Jessica. Jessica is a successful divorce attorney / author, who has leased a cabin in order to regroup about her life and the direction it is taking. Jason is a grumpy, sexy cowboy, who is the owner of the cabin Jessica has leased. The push and pull from these two as well as the love / hate scenario, to be honest got a tad tiring and repetitive, and how she tolerated his antics is beyond me. However, this is just my opinion! This is an engaging story which is sweet, fun and humorous, and I look forward to reading more from this author.
This isn’t my first read from the author, but it is differently from anything I’ve ever read from her and I LOVED it! A sexy cowboy, who is also a former pro baseball player? SIGN ME UP!
Jessica is a former divorce attorney who is running away after catching her fiancé cheating on her, which is how she ends up finding a little cottage in the middle of nowhere in Sweetwater, Texas. What she doesn’t expect to find is a former baseball player turned cowboy and his super amazing grammy. Jason is trying to save his parents ranch and making sure his granny is taken care of, so when he has a run in with Jessica his world is turned upside down.
I loved the banter between Jason and Jessica. They definitely got off on the wrong boot, but they more time they spent together they started to form a friendship. Jason was possessive of Jessica, he wanted to keep her away from the rest of the workers on the ranch, of course that was due past relationships. The chemistry between them was something that had to build for me. The more time they spent together the hotter their chemistry was.
Lets talk about Granny. She was amazing! She was a fighter. The love she had for her grandson, for the ranch and everyone involved was fantastic. I LOVE the bond she formed with Jessica. Those two literally became instant best friends.
If you love cowboy romances this is a MUST READ!
Jones flexes her creative muscle with a side of her personality that we as readers don’t often get to see. Always tempting this time around she proves her versatility with neverending humor and ever present emotion. The Truth About Cowboys is a tale of past regrets, present disappointments and the chance to begin again. With characters that wrap themselves around your heart and refuse to let go, how can you not love every minute of this irresistible tango of love.
A darling story. Jessica is running away from everything she knows to get away from a cheating fiancé. She is clumsy, accident prone and seems to always need rescuing. Jason is hiding at home from all the trouble that has happened his life recently. This story is filled with fun characters and hilarious incidents. It is witty and charming. As Jason and Jessica go back on forth on how they feel about each other you will enjoy their name calling and feisty fights. Getting to a happy place takes lots of cookies and many missteps.
The Truth About Cowboys will make you have a love/hate relationship with the story. It has a slow burn that will kill you slowly. Some may not like that in a story, and some like me will be begging for more. I had so much emotions running through me as I am not very patient. But good things come to those who wait, and believe me, this is worth the wait!
What am I rambling about? Well that will bring some spoiler alerts. But I will say, you will love Jessica and Jason’s story. You will love the side characters (hint hint Martha). But most of all, The Truth About Cowboys is memorable and will stay in your head for days to come!
Jason and Jessica! Both Jason and Jessica have experienced some life events that have turned them away from the possibility of love yet through their interactions are able to force the other to overcome and grow. This book has a lot of conflict, comedy, and angst that blossoms into a beautiful demonstration of love and sacrifice.
The Truth About Cowboys is added to my list of favorite reads. Two damaged souls push and pull each other with an attraction they didn’t expect or even want.
Jason, a former pro baseball player, was burned by the likes of a “city girl.” In his eyes they’re all alike. He’s a sexy cowboy with a judgmental brazen attitude. Jason has had his share of hard times both emotionally and financially which also creates the mental stress that he struggles to rein in. Cynical as he is, he can’t control what he feels for Jessica. She is the storm within he can’t control.
Jessica a divorce attorney doesn’t believe in love. She has seen her mother get married and divorced several times and the fact that she was cheated on by her ex. She’s headstrong but when it comes to Jason, she confused. She wants him but can’t stand his arrogant ways.
Lisa has written a story of how true love can heal a broken soul. Once again she has taken her readers on an incredible journey filled with stubborn a hero and even a more stubborn heroine. Hopefully we will read more about Jessica and Jason in the future. I received an advance copy from Entangled Publishing, LLC via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
This is so amazing. Lisa really hit this one out of the park. I loved everything about this story. Jason and Jessica have the best banter back-and-forth. I laughed so much all the way through this book. I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars.
4-4.5 Stars
The Truth About Cowboys was a fun and sexy story, one I couldn’t put down. I was completely wrapped up in this one. The characters were intriguing and frustrating and endearing. The tension between Jason and Jessica was both infuriating and combustible. I had to find out if they’d end up together or strangle each other.
I really loved Jessica’s journey. She was such a wonderful character. Her growth throughout was inspiring. Jessica and Martha’s relationship was one of my favorite parts of the story. They were so cute and funny and sweet. It was a welcome break from the intensity of Jason and his relationship with Jessica. He was a tough character. I wanted to shake him…often. His development was much slower but I loved the tension and drama it caused.
I’m excited to see that there will be another story in this world. I can’t wait to get my hands on it!!
After Jessica catches her fiance canoodling with his secretary in his office after hours she decides she needs a little break from the city and life in general. So she packs up her belongings, rents a little cottage a few hours away, and says goodbye to all she knows in exchange for some much needed thinking time and writing time. What she finds hidden in the great outdoors is not only good for her soul, but also unexpectedly good for her heart too!
She never expected to meet a man like Jason, but the button-pushing, uber sexy cowboy waltzed into her world and turned it upside down. They share some serious sparks, but they are both non-believers when it comes to love too… so things are bound to get interesting!
From the first chapter this one pulled me in, between it’s captivating words and the romance blooming between Jason and Jessica it made it impossible to put down. The chemistry between these two was evident from their first meeting and it continued to sizzle throughout the entire book. But their self-doubt about love and their future kept making an appearance too and stirring up lots of turmoil for their hearts and minds… which meant angsty heart-squeezing feels for me! I loved this one it’s pages came brimming with feeling, humor, and steamy encounters… all things necessary to make a romance readers heart happy!
Highly recommend you get your hands on this book, it pages hold a story that is certain to leave you swimming in feels and swoons!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, via NetGalley request, and I am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased opinion.
5 star review of The Truth About Cowboys by Lisa Renee Jones
When I heard that Lisa Renee Jones had a new series coming out I couldn’t wait to put my hand up to review. Having read several books by this talented author I was excited for The Truth About Cowboys.
There is so much going on in this story that I found myself riveted to it. Jason Jenks, where do I start? There was just something about him that really drew me to him. He works hard, is a retired baseball player who is forced to return home to run his family farm and although he frustrated me at times, he ticked many of my boxes.
This was a passionate, heartwarming and fun book, full of laughter, a little drama and was one of those books I didn’t want to put down. The writing was strong and the characters had a great deal of depth to them. I really liked Jessica, how feisty she was and how determined she is to make a go of her new life. Jason’s grandmother Martha is a real hoot and I loved her, she really brought an added layer to the story.
Can two strong willed people such as Jason and Jessica overcome their stubbornness and in doing so find a future together? One click and find out.
