Steamy, sexy, and laugh-out-loud funny, THE TRUTH ABOUT COWBOYS is a new contemporary novel that will pull your heartstrings and steam up your e-reader… While I was off pitching in the big leagues, my family was back in the small town of Sweetwater, Texas, running the family ranch. Then tragedy hit and I discovered there were secrets that my family kept, problems they hid. I went home, left … went home, left behind the money, women, and fame. I took over the ranch and took care of my grandmother. I took over hiding the secrets. Then she came to town. A smart-mouthed, clumsy, too-smart-and-too-pretty-for-my-own-good city girl hiding out to write a book. She’s right here, on my property, in the cottage my grandmother rented her without my permission, and she sees too much. She knows too much.
Now suddenly my world is spinning, and she’s shoving a baseball back in my hand while baking cookies with my grandmother. She’s the devil and an angel all in one fiery little package. I decide I’ll wait her out. She’ll go back to the city. Only suddenly I don’t want her to leave, and everything I’ve settled for in my life isn’t enough. I want to play ball and I want her, but there’s that secret that won’t let go, but neither will she.

I don’t really know what to tell you that I expected going into this book, but what I got was a glorious feel-good, emotional, passionate and humorous journey of two people brimming with so much heart I just could not get enough!
From the very beginning I was hooked! I loved Jason but for me, Jessica stole the show. Her character was so perfect for not only Jason, but for the story. This chic! She was willing to do anything and everything to grab life by the (you know what). She was adaptable and that’s exactly what Jason needed in his life. This guy! Man, he frustrated me to no end most times but his damn heart was so big I couldn’t stay annoyed for very long! I could wax poetic to you for a long time about this journey, but you really need to experience it without prejudice. So I’m not gonna tell you a thing about the plot, except it’s busy for sure LOL (in a good way!)
I will say this, this was a 5+ star read for me until I just couldn’t handle the push/pull between Jason and Jessica anymore. It was a lot. Too much in my opinion. The plot had enough story in it that it did not need so much conflict between them. It pulled me from my cloud nine haze of wonderment every damn time it happened, UGH!
BUT LISTEN, this story is glorious. I promise. Go forth and #oneclick. Seriously. Do it now.
A sexy, funny, emotional contemporary read with a grumpy cowboy turned pro-baseball player, a city girl, a meddling grandma, and a whole lot of fun and trouble!
Mix a grumpy cowboy turned pro-baseball player, a city girl, a meddling grandma, and what do you have? A lot of fun and trouble! And a whole lot of steam! Perfect summer read! Highly recommend!

Lisa Renee Jones is one of my favorite authors and one I always one click so I was super excited to see that she was venturing into hot cowboys. I really loved Jessica and Jason. The dynamic between these two is so back and forth, pushing and pulling. You know how the saying goes, it’s a thin line between love and hate, yeah this was absolutely the case with these two. There were moments where I got very frustrated with both characters, but overall I found this to be a really good start to a new series. Oh and let me tell you, Grandma was more than a hoot. I adored her.

A sexy, funny, emotional contemporary read with a grumpy cowboy turned pro-baseball player, a city girl, a meddling grandma, and a whole lot of fun and trouble!
If you have read any of Lisa Renee Jones’ books you know they tend to be romantic suspense which she is a QUEEN at writing but this is something different, there is no suspense here. Jessica that needs to get out of the city after catching her fiance in a compromising position with his secretary, so she rents a small cottage in the country far enough away she knows she won’t be running into him. Well, there is only one problem with that, and no it isn’t that someone is chasing her – like I said not a suspense, this is a contemporary romance – the problem she has is Jason Jenks the cowboy she can’t help but keep running into.
You know once you swear off men its like the universe laughs at you because they put the perfect person right in front of you, but what if that person has sworn off women as well? WELL I’ll tell you it leads to a whole lot of sexual frustration….I mean chemistry, lol.
I loved Jason and Jessica together but I really loved Jason’s grandmother, Martha. Martha was the best! She’s the grandma everyone wants. Jason and Martha’s relationship was wonderful and loving and so very special, he’d do just about anything for his grandmother and the same went for her.
This was wonderful start to the TEXAS HEAT Series and I cannot wait for the next book. If you enjoy Cowboys, and honestly who doesn’t, you’ll want to grab a copy of this book I honestly don’t think you’ll be disappointed at all.
Happy Reading!!
A sexy, funny, emotional contemporary read with a grumpy cowboy turned pro-baseball player, a city girl, a meddling grandma, and a whole lot of fun and trouble!
Lisa Renee Jones’ new standalone takes a departure from her billionaire romance and enters the world of small-town life and cowboys. Jessica is a successful divorce attorney in Dallas but when she finds her fiance in bed with his secretary then curses out her firm’s top client, a sabbatical is in order. She finds a quiet cabin in the country to lick her wounds and regroup. Little does she know that the cabin that she rents doesn’t exactly belong to the little old lady that she spoke to. It belongs to rancher Jason, who is none too happy with what his grandmother has done nor with Jessica. The two battle it back and forth as their feelings grow. Feelings neither of these world-weary people want to admit.
An enemies to lovers story, The Truth About Cowboys has several light-hearted moments courtesy of Jason’s grandmother. The characters are relatable once you learn what makes them tick, thought with Jason that is further into the story that it should be, making him mostly unlikable for about half the book. Jessica and Jason go after each other regularly as they fight their chemistry and each can get quite defensive.
Overall this was a good read that perhaps went a bit long on the fighting the feelings stage with the characters both extremely headstrong and completely stubborn. I would have liked to see them opening up about their feelings a bit sooner in the story but enjoyed this book just the same.
Sparks fly hotter and brighter than the fourth of July in this sexy, engaging and laugh out loud fun romantic adventure filled with secrets, witty banter and off the charts passion…… Loved this total opposites but so right for each-other couple. Their journey was so emotionally thrilling and exciting to read.
I really, really enjoyed this story. Jones created a fun world for us that includes snakes, flying air conditioners, ugly brown boots, warm gooey cookies, a snarky, clumsy city girl and a “Wrangler commercial come to life” cowboy. These two are oil and water, lol, in other words; the perfect match! Jessica, down on her luck, is looking for a place to lick her wounds and regroup. She may need saving from her clumsiness, but she sure doesn’t need saving from life. She is her own hero. Insert fist pump! Jason may be a swoon worthy cowboy, but he’s also a true a$$hole. At least to Jessica that is. We learn that Jason too is hiding from his own past traumas. He realizes that Jessica just might be the one that can see past the protective walls he’s created and that scares the crap out of him. He does what he can to remain safe and pushes her away at every opportunity.
Jason may be “rugged country hotness”. But his tactics drive Jessica batty and she fights back refusing to let him win.
“I’m no longer fantasizing about a kiss, but rather a stomp on his toe or a kick to his shin.”
The feeling between the two is completely mutual. It seems like the story will play out as an enemies to lovers type, but the author doesn’t hold true to prediction. Jason and Jessica may push each other’s buttons, but they also understand each other in ways no one else has. They really never reach the enemy level, just the drive each other crazy level.
“That crazy, clumsy, pain-in-my-a$$ woman is ten kinds of turn me on and piss me off, and I don’t know what to do about it now besides leave, but that’s not going to work for long.”
The have an instant feisty attraction fueled with sexual tension. So combustible sparks fly whenever they are together. It’s obvious to those around them, just not to them.
“Because your mouth says a$$hole and your eyes say –oh, baby.”
“He lightly touches my arm, but heat radiates up and over my chest like a fire, burning me alive. My gaze jerks to his again and that fire now blazes a circle around us.”
But the sexual tension can only be held off for so long until it ignites with such a fire it is epic!
“When he’s buried deep inside me, our eyes collide and I swear I tremble with that connection. I swear his eye register that same kind of jolt. He cups my face and drags my mouth to his. “I knew you were trouble.””
But they both know that being more than friends will come at a cost and neither are willing to pay the price.
Jessica doesn’t believe in love. “I’m passionate about not becoming captive to a relationship.” Jason will never let his heart be used and abused again.
Will these two beautiful people who clearly belong together ever see the light? Will they be able to rebuild their lives? And will it include each other?
The author gives us a thoroughly entertaining story that has all the good parts! There was enough humor, snark, suspense and lots of delicious steamy parts to keep readers very happy. I really appreciated that the potentially predictable parts, didn’t play out predictable at all! It kept me engaged and intrigued. This book is an entertaining emotionally light read with wonderful characters, written in a way that you feel like you’ve come to be part of the family. A read you don’t want to miss!
I read an ARC of this book via netgalley. My fair and honest review is voluntary.
Jessica, a high-powered divorce attorney, has just had the worst day of her life. After discovering her fiancé with his secretary and then placed on leave for calling a client a lying cheater, Jessica leaves Dallas. Jessica makes a hasty decision to rent a cabin, in the middle of the country, in Sweetwater, Texas. On her way to the cabin, her car gets stuck in the mud and she’s “rescued” by a gruff cowboy. Although she is drawn to the cowboy, she secretly wonders if he’s an axe murderer. She’s drawn to him, but his mistrust is off-putting. Then, she gets a good look at him and realizes who he is…
Jason has no use for a city girl like Jessica. He’s lived the city life and doesn’t want the reminders of what he was forced to leave behind. After suffering the tragic loss of his parents, Jason leaves MLB to return to Sweetwater and the ranch he grow up on. The ranch that is secretly struggling to stay afloat. Even after putting his life savings into the ranch, Jason’s barely able to pay his employees. A return to his MLB pitching career would solve his financial situation, but he vows to never leave his grandma behind again.
Between Martha’s crazy antics, Kelly the hairless cat, and the banter between Jason and Jessica this novel is a hilarious mess! I loved Jessica’s strength, determination, klutziness, and inability to cook. I liked that she wasn’t whiny and didn’t take crap from Jason. She endeared herself to him, tearing down his walls and becoming the best ball girl a pitcher could ever dream of. Jessica’s faith in Jason propelled him to overcome his fear of failure and take a chance on living again. I loved his plans for the ranch and his yoga, match-making granny! The best in opposites attract stories! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
Have you ever needed to just get away from your life? May it be a vacation or completely move to a new town just to start over. Well, Jessica definitely had a need to disappear from her current life to clear her mind and renew her purpose.
She’s in the process of writing a book about divorce and living off her book advance. Staying in a cabin in small town Texas seems like the perfect place to get her book written and heal from the hurt her ex-fiance caused.
What she didn’t expect in her oasis is for the owner of the cabin to want to toss her out every chance he gets. Jason is determined to get the city girl out of his cabin and out of his town. City girls are nothing but trouble and he’s determined to live by that mantra. Only Jessica is not what he expected.
Have you ever had an expectation, preconceived notion of someone, if you will and then it turns out to be completely opposite from what you thought. Well, Jason definitely needed correcting and so did Jessica. Their thoughts about each other are quite funny and sometimes not far off base.
As usual, Author Lisa Renee Jones wow’s us with her creativity. This is not your typical cowboy story. It’s sweet, funny, and you’ll fall in love with Jason’s Grandmother the moment you meet her in the story.
Excellent book by Lisa. I love her writing style for six years. With Jessica and Jason. All I can say wow and definitely a must read..
I really didn’t feel anything between Jason and Jessica. I mean he started off as an ahole and to me, there were parts that he didn’t let up. It was frustrating because I like the build up, the push and pull, and I really didn’t feel any of that. I actually really liked the grandma, she was pretty badass. After about half way through I started skimming because I wanted to see how it ended. This is just a me thing, I’m sure other people might enjoy it.
4.25 stars–THE TRUTH ABOUT COWBOYS is the first instalment in Lisa Renee Jones’ contemporary, adult TEXAS HEAT erotic, cowboy romance series. This is former major league baseball pitcher and rancher Jason Jenks, and Dallas divorce attorney/writer Jessica’s story line.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Jason and Jessica) THE TRUTH ABOUT COWBOYS follows the acrimonious relationship between former major league baseball pitcher and rancher Jason Jenks, and Dallas divorce attorney/writer Jessica. With the discovery that her boyfriend was screwing around, and her outburst and accusations towards a client, Jessica finds herself in Sweetwater, Texas, licking her wounds as she writes ‘A Girl’s Guide to Divorce’. On a forced leave of absence Jessica intends to forget about the past but driving in the rain lands Jessica knee deep in mud facing off with the ‘a$$hole’ cowboy who will steal her heart. Enter former major league baseball pitcher turned rancher Jason Jenks. What ensues is the building but antagonistic relationship between Jason and Jessica, and the potential fall-out as Jessica is forced to walk away following one too many accusations by the man that she loves.
Jessica needs some time alone, and Sweetwater, Texas offers the solitude she needs to write her novel but Jessica had no idea that she was about to meet her future in the guise of an angry and embittered former baseball player who struggles to move on from the past. Jason Jenks doesn’t do relationships having been burned in the past, a past that continues to control his present. Battling too many demons and the inability to trust, Jason struggles with issues of jealousy, and uncertainty as it pertains to the woman with whom he is falling in love.
The relationship between Jessica and Jason is oft-times combative and hesitant. Jason’s issues of trust control his emotions and our hero tends to direct his frustrations on the woman he loves. Jessica, fresh off of a disastrous romance finds herself on the defence more times than she wants, a defence that forces Jessica to walk away before losing her heart. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Jason’s all seeing and feisty grandmother Martha; several ranch hands, Jason’s best friend and local veterinarian Roarke, as well as Jessica’s friend Shelly. I am looking forward to Roarke’s story.
THE TRUTH ABOUT COWBOYS is a story of family, friendship, betrayal and love; a story of trust, miscommunication, misunderstanding and hope. The premise is engaging and captivating; the romance is seductive and hot; the characters are broken, colorful, dynamic, charismatic and energetic. THE TRUTH ABOUT COWBOYS is a spirited and intoxicating introduction to Lisa Renee Jones’ new TEXAS HEAT series.
This was my first Lisa Renee Jones’s book. This is a great cowboy romance, and sports romance. I loved it. Jessica and Jason’s story is sweet, fun, and beautiful. I love their slow burn story. Martha, Jason’s Grandma, is a great and fun character. I enjoyed reading this story. Now, I’m looking forward for more books written by this author.
