Steamy, sexy, and laugh-out-loud funny, THE TRUTH ABOUT COWBOYS is a new contemporary novel that will pull your heartstrings and steam up your e-reader… While I was off pitching in the big leagues, my family was back in the small town of Sweetwater, Texas, running the family ranch. Then tragedy hit and I discovered there were secrets that my family kept, problems they hid. I went home, left … went home, left behind the money, women, and fame. I took over the ranch and took care of my grandmother. I took over hiding the secrets. Then she came to town. A smart-mouthed, clumsy, too-smart-and-too-pretty-for-my-own-good city girl hiding out to write a book. She’s right here, on my property, in the cottage my grandmother rented her without my permission, and she sees too much. She knows too much.
Now suddenly my world is spinning, and she’s shoving a baseball back in my hand while baking cookies with my grandmother. She’s the devil and an angel all in one fiery little package. I decide I’ll wait her out. She’ll go back to the city. Only suddenly I don’t want her to leave, and everything I’ve settled for in my life isn’t enough. I want to play ball and I want her, but there’s that secret that won’t let go, but neither will she.

In a departure from her normal romantic suspense Lisa Renee Jones has written a country cowboy vs city girl rom-com. Take one grumpy, cantankerous, suspiciousm quick to judge cowboy who is a former MLB pitching star and one feisty, sassy, adorably clumsy, high profile divorce attorney and budding romance author. Add in a cookie baking, 70 something, mischievous matchmaking grandmother and a hairless cat named Kelly. You’ve got the perfect recipe recipe for a delightful romantic romp.
Jason and Jessica are about as compatible as oil and water. Their banter is witty, acerbic and rapid fire. Yep, a match made in heaven! She only wants to help and his pride keeps him from accepting anyone’s help. Both of them have pasts that have left them mistrustful. No matter how hot they are in the bedroom, outside their personal issues may be an insurmountable obstacle.
The truth about cowboys is awesome!
This is my first book by Lisa Renee Jones but it certainly won’t be the last. This is an engaging, heartwarming and enjoyable story. I love the interaction between Jason and Jessica. The slow burn will keep you interested. I absolutely love Jason’s grandma and how her and Jessica have such a close and loving relationship. Pick up this book. You won’t be disappointed.
Amazing second chance love. Could not put this book down. This is the first book I’ve read from this author will definitely read more. Loved Jason and Jessica. They were both amazingly strong sexy compassionate people.
A fabulous start to this series! It is sweet, funny, and all kinds of heartfelt.
Jason, former baseball star turned rancher is all kinds of hot and swoony. He has been burned in the past and is not looking to repeat it. When Jessica, a lawyer form the city, turns up on his ranch, he isn’t interested in starting anything. No matter what his fiesty grandmother thinks should happen. Even if she is the most beautiful woman he has ever laid eyes on, he still isn’t interested.
I fell in love with these two. They clash immediately and I just knew all that back and forth is going to turn in to some serious heat. I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting. I can’t wait to get the next one in this series!
I found The Truth About Cowboys to be an entertaining and enjoyable read. How can one not love a hero who is both a sports star and a cowboy? Swoon! The two characters start off as enemies – a city girl and a country boy who “clash like fire and ice”, but the attraction between them was undeniable. They each had their strengths, but also flaws, thus making them relatable. I found some of the banter between Jessica and Jason to be rather humorous.
The storyline was entertaining with the underlying themes of self discovery and learning to trust – something that I think many of us can identify with. I really loved watching them each evolve as characters as they discovered what really made them happy and what they really wanted out of life. There were times where I wanted to shake Jason as it seemed he just couldn’t get past jumping to conclusions and passing judgment on Jessica even though she more than proved she is trustworthy. Nonetheless, I couldn’t help but love these characters and wish for their HEA. I also adored Martha as she is the quintessential grandmother with her matchmaking ideas, wisdom, and of course, cookie baking. This book is different from other books that I have read by this author as I have mostly read her more darker romantic suspense novels (i.e. Dirty Rich series and the Filthy Trilogy) and The Truth About Cowboys has a different feel to it. It is more of a contemporary small town romance.
Such a fun and entertaining read. I loved the feistiness of the main characters. Jessica is recovering from a bad breakup. Jason is not looking for love. But there is undeniable chemistry between them. The grandma was a real character! Will she succeed in her matchmaking? A lovely story!
This book was everything I love about reading! From the first page I was hooked. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough! The character development was wonderful. I just love Jason and Jessica are such a great couple. The heat level between them is scorching. I loved their banter and their fights. At times it’s laugh out loud funny. Other times my heart hurt for them individually. Martha is so funny, I just loved her. I wish I had a Grandma like her. There are life lessons in this book. I really hope the author plans to make this a series! I received an advance review copy from NetGalley for an honest review.
I received this arc for an honest review of this book. This is a new direction for the author. Most of her books are Romantic Suspense books but this is a true Contemporary Romance book,
The book starts out with Jessica fleeing Dallas after catching her fiancé in their bed with another woman. Jessica has rented a cabin to write a book on divorce. She is an expert on the subject since she is a divorce attorney. On her way to the cabin, she gets stuck in a pothole and gets rescued by a man in a pickup truck. Unbeknownst to either they are landlord and tenant.
Jason is a man that was burned badly by a woman and causes him to be skeptical of all “city girls”. But Jason has a lot of history that only his best friend and Grandma know about. Jason has a bunch of secrets he keeps from his grandma to protect her.
Along the way Jessica and Martha (Jason’s grandma) become best of friends. Martha is a matchmaker ultimately and has set her sights on Jason and Jessica. The attraction and chemistry between these two is off the charts. But because of all the secrets and hurts between the two you don’t know if they will make it or not.
In the long run, Jessica discovers Jason’s dreams/secrets/wishes as well as Jason discovers Jessica’s.. but can they overcome the distrust Jason has for “city girls” and fear that Jessica will break not only his heart but his grandma‘s heart.
To discover all the secrets and find out if they get their HEA, please buy this book and read it. You will not be sorry!
City girl vs. country boy makes this a must read! One cranky cowboy, although cranky doesn’t begin to sum up how twisted Jason “The Flying J” Jenks boxers are over the arrival of Jessica the divorce attorney from Dallas, Texas. The chemistry, laughter and family moments are everything in this cowboy romance.
Clearly Jessica is out of her element in the small town of Sweetwater, Texas, but as a top divorce attorney in Dallas she’s used to tackling tough cases and the cranky, cowboy Jason is just another mountain she has to tackle to enjoy her escape. Yes, she escaped, ran is more like it, from her life in the city and her fiance after she caught him cheating and called one of the firms top clients a cheating scumbag. So, it all happened on the same day and her mental status may not have been in the best state, but that isn’t the total reason she’s escaping to the middle of nowhere for a mini-vacation (temporary leave) from her job to finally write a book on divorce. Everything will be fine, except it really isn’t. Can a person be attracted to bad luck? If so, she attracts it like flies to honey.
Jason is just trying to survive. After the death of his parents he left the big city, his career, and his dream of playing baseball to come back and run the ranch that is falling down around him. Yes, he gave up his dream, but he knew his parents dream was the ranch and he will do anything to keep their dream alive. With problems escalating what he doesn’t need is the city following him to his quiet solitude in the form of a shapely woman. Jessica is everything he left behind and he will do everything to make sure she doesn’t stay.
A divorce lawyer in the middle of nowhere who wants to stay and a sexy cowboy who doesn’t want to be there, but won’t leave. How can these two possibly find a middle ground?
The Truth About Cowboys is delicious, full of family fun and love, lots of humor and sizzling heat!
I loved this book! It’s nice to read a story where the male main character (Jason) is not chasing the female main character (Jessica). So, Jessica isn’t chasing Jason either. I literally laughed at all of the banter between these two. The grandma had me in stitches as well. There are a few times that I wanted to just smack Jason. There are some twists, drama, and just plain feel good moments in this story. I read an advance copy via Net Galley and voluntarily chose to review.
TRUST… if you have been burned before, it is not easy to trust anyone else. It is a matter of survival!
Take a beleaguered silent ex baseball player and mix him up with an opinionated divorce lawyer and you have the recipe for trouble. They are both running away from their past while trying to deal with after effects of their present life. The future is not something they can even deal with at this time. It will take a huge event for them to even begin to hope for a way out of their misery.
In a lonely night, in the middle of nowhere, Texas, mud and potholes interfere. Soon you have a pretty ex lawyer slathered in mud while staring at an amazed and grunting ex baseball player trying to play hero. This is the beginning of a love/hate relationship that will have you roaring with laughter. Two opposites have never fought this much. Life his grandmother Martha notes, there is just something while they fight that feels like there is attraction. After all, the line between love and hate is a very fine line to straddle.
Definitely recommended for a delightful reading experience!
“Lord help me, he might be a jerk but he’s a Wrangler commercial come to life, and I need a cold drink right now.” – Jessica
Jessica was living her best life, or so she thought. When she catches her now ex in a compromising position, she takes off from Dallas to a small cottage she found online. She needs to get away from the city and figure out her life. When her car breaks down in the middle of the night in the pouring rain, a handsome cowboy comes to save her. However, unlike in the books she’s read, this cowboy isn’t her knight in shining armor, he lectures her about not being prepared. Jason Jenks doesn’t have time for the pretty city girl he helped, who unbeknownst to him would also be staying in his grandmother’s old cottage on his ranch. As the two get spend more time together, (sometimes against their will) Jason realizes that maybe Jessica isn’t the city girl he thought she was, but when hurtful words and accusations are said can Jessica forgive Jason, or is she meant to stay a city girl?
This is my first book by Lisa Renee Jones, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Jessica was a hilarious heroine with so much sass and snark, and Jason, is the hot cowboy we all dream about! Their back and forth was entertaining, and watching them fight their feelings kept me turning the pages to see if they could finally figure it out! Also I LOVED the secondary characters, Martha was hilarious, from baking together to drinking together she kept the humor alive every time! I need a book about Roarke now, because that man needs to have his own happily ever after! This was a quick read, and I recommend it to anyone looking for something to get lost in!
A fun romp through the back range of Texas, which includes snakes, mice, cats and of course horses. The interplay between Jason and Jessica is intense and entertaining, the trust issues and overbearing anger Jason exhibits regularly becomes old by the end of the book. The story line is entertaining and should be added to your TBR list, quirky and a great read

“The Truth About Cowboys” by Lisa Renee Jones
When I read ‘steamy’ in the description of this story… I almost did not choose to read to review it. But I am ever so glad I ignored that part of the description. I did love this story, and I think you will too. Sometimes the wrong thing happens at just the right time. I received and ARC of this story from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my no strings attached opinion of this story. Happy Reading !!
Are you interested in something different from Lisa Renee Jones, then this is the book to read! I LOVED reading The Truth About Cowboys! It’s a feel good sexy book. Jason is a baseballer that had to leave baseball to care for his family farm after his parents died in a tragic accident. And, Jessica an attorney that is having to take a leave after her fiancé was caught cheating by her and her inappropriate comments to a client.
There were a few times I wanted to slap Jason upside the head. He really has a habit of ruining a good thing!
There are some LOL moments and The Truth About Cowboys is a fun read. Jason’s grandmother Martha, is a cool grandma!
Is it bad that I really want to try an apple cobbler cookie? Do you have a recipe Lisa Renee Jones?
The Truth About Cowboys is a must read! One Click this book now! 5 + stars.
This was the first book by Lisa Renee Jones that I’ve read. I was divided on how many stars to rate, between 3 & 4. The story kept me entertained, I really loved Martha, Jason’s grandmother (we all need a Martha in our life). My main complaint is that it’s too wordy and Jessica sometimes came off as scattered and a klutz when she was supposed to be a cutthroat divorce attorney. Jason was almost too hard headed to be redeemed but he was. It’s nice to read the thoughts and motivations of each character but when it becomes too repetitious, it gets boring. The story and the character attributes along with the dialogue helped make this a more enjoyable book.
Coming home and having your whole life change in the blink of an eye can really have an affect on the future. Finding that someone new and learning to trust and love again is a hard task. This authors story is truly an amazing tale of two couples overcoming great loss and heartbreak. Their story is truly awesome and I highly recommend that you read it. Lisa did an amazing job with all of the characters in this story.
I got all the feels from this sexy cowboy/city girl romance. Great writing, wonderful characters, enemies to lovers to enemies to friends to lovers. Both Jason and Jessica have been burned badly in the past, and yes, you’ve guessed it, they’re not looking for love, but they’ve got a huge attraction towards each other, and the chemistry is so strong, this thing between them is impossible to ignore, no matter how much they dislike each other. Cowboy Jason, is sexy, alpha, and a former pro baseball player running the family ranch. Jessica is a former divorce attorney turned author, with an adorable and extremely funny penchant for being clumsy, all she wants is a quiet place to escape to. The thing is, grandma (Martha) is hell bent on getting these two together. Then there’s also the secrets. Martha is keeping secrets from Jason, Jason is keeping secrets from Martha, Jessica is keeping their secrets from each other. Neither one wanting to upset or worry the other. All Martha wants is for Jason to be happy, play baseball and settle down with the right woman, she’s one hell of a matchmaker. A full five stars from me, I so hope we get more from Sweetwater, Texas and these wonderfully sweet characters. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.
It is a truth universally acknowledged that if you give me a cowboy I’m going to swoon… add to that the fact that he is a professional baseball player with a brazen attitude and I am done for! I LOVED this story. This is an unexpected chance love story that is full of steam and swoon worthy moments.
As I laughed and sighed my way through this story I also fell in love with the characters. They are passionate and sweet, kind and fiery. I loved the possessiveness balanced with the desire to let each other shine. The dialogue was perfect and it was like these characters were real, I felt everything while reading this story.
City woman verses the cowboy makes this story exactly what you are hoping for. The push and pull, the secrets and truths; everything is in perfect balance. I could not get enough of the interactions between the two main characters; they drove me to turn the pages. One minute I was backing one then the next I was rooting for the other. The secondary characters (I am thinking Grandma here) also made this story enjoyable. I loved the humor!! There is not a lot of baseball in this story so don’t get discouraged thinking its part sports romance. It is all about the cowboy and his sassy new love interest!! I have never read this author before but I will be looking into her stories for more! I received an ARC via NetGallery and am leaving an honest review.
