Steamy, sexy, and laugh-out-loud funny, THE TRUTH ABOUT COWBOYS is a new contemporary novel that will pull your heartstrings and steam up your e-reader… While I was off pitching in the big leagues, my family was back in the small town of Sweetwater, Texas, running the family ranch. Then tragedy hit and I discovered there were secrets that my family kept, problems they hid. I went home, left … went home, left behind the money, women, and fame. I took over the ranch and took care of my grandmother. I took over hiding the secrets. Then she came to town. A smart-mouthed, clumsy, too-smart-and-too-pretty-for-my-own-good city girl hiding out to write a book. She’s right here, on my property, in the cottage my grandmother rented her without my permission, and she sees too much. She knows too much.
Now suddenly my world is spinning, and she’s shoving a baseball back in my hand while baking cookies with my grandmother. She’s the devil and an angel all in one fiery little package. I decide I’ll wait her out. She’ll go back to the city. Only suddenly I don’t want her to leave, and everything I’ve settled for in my life isn’t enough. I want to play ball and I want her, but there’s that secret that won’t let go, but neither will she.

Divorce lawyer Jessica’s had it with the big city!
Dallas was full of idiot clients and cheating fiancés.
Now she’s rented a little cottage to finally write her book.
But when she finally gets there – the owner is not very happy to see her.

Grandma definitely has some bigger plans for her grandson and Jessica. But those two just can’t seem to be in a room – or in a mud puddle – together without starting to argue!
Plus there’s Jason’s mysterious retirement from professional sports and lots of money and old relationship problems that’ll keep our darlings busy!
Let the fun times begin!
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO JESSICA & JASON?
WILL THERE BE A HEA?
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT
Well, that was … cute!!!
It was a funny Cowboy-Baseball-Lawyer-Author romance full of mud and cookies and rain and moody, sexy ranchers!
I really loved reading it.
It was also a Lisa Renee Jones book – so it was a tiny bit too long. We could’ve cut a few pages and a few too complicated sentences. And a few of those YOU DID, DID YOU?’s – there were too many of those kinds of ‘questions’ in here. The writing was a bit weird here and there. It felt like Lisa tried too hard to sound different and funnier. But I still really liked Jessica and Jason – and grandma and Roarke! And the cookies! I even liked the cat – and I hate cats!
It was a sweet and adorable and slightly frustrating romance. I enjoyed reading it and I can’t wait to read Roarke’s story next!
THE TRUTH ABOUT COWBOYS was an adorable Cowboy-Baseball-Lawyer-Author-Cookie-Baker-Cat-Sitter Love Story! Run to your nearest amazon for your own Jason – this one is MINE!
“Lord help me, he might be a jerk, but he’s a Wrangler commercial come to life, and I need a cold drink right now.”
I’ve been a Lisa Renee Jones fan for years. She’s an auto-click author for me. That being said, after having read many of her books, I think this is my favorite. I loved it soooo hard I want to see it on a movie screen. It’s that good.
There are so many things that make this story amazing, for starters, in alphabetical order…
Apologies
Baseball
Boots
City
Cookies
Country
Cowboys
Grandma
Giggles
Horses
Mud
Sex
Snakes
Texas
Vodka
What’s not to like about all that, right? Trust me, you’re gonna love The Truth About Cowboys as much as I did. And I can’t tell you how thrilled I am that it’s just the beginning of a new series. I’m counting down until my next trip to Sweetwater. The line forms here…
Wooohooo! LRJ has a new sexy, funny, emotional contemporary release! A grumpy cowboy turned pro-baseball player, a city girl, a meddling grandma, and a whole lot of fun and trouble!
THE TRUTH ABOUT COWBOYS is the first book in the Sweetwater series. Each will stand on its own.
Does anyone remember Dudley Goodwright? Nell? Snidley Whiplash? When I was a child, we would sum up the old cartoons by using a blue bow and holding it under our nose (Snidley’s mustache), “You must pay the rent.” Then at the back of our heads, (Nell), “But I can’t pay the rent!” Repeat: “You must pay the rent.” “But I can’t pay the rent!” Then, we would hold that bow at our neck (Dudley), “I’ll pay the rent.” “My hero,” Nell sighs.
This story reminded me of those old cartoons, with a few twists. After all, it’s been nearly 100 years since those days of the Canadian Mountie and his beautiful beleaguered femme. Jessica is no wilting Texas rose; she’s a former divorce attorney shark turned author. Though Jason saves her from mud and mice, she is as willing to support his life and dreams as he does hers.
I don’t normally love the tormented I love you-I hate you type of relationship beginnings. Okay, maybe hate is too strong of a word, but denial is all over that ranch! Thank God for one matchmaking, meddling, cookie-baking grandma who knows more than she’s let on to her ex-baseball playing, handsome as heck, cowboy grandson.
I have a feeling the next book will be about Allen and Debbie. At least I hope it is. I’m looking forward to learning more about their story and their happy ending.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

Humor, drama, angst, romance, hot sexy cowboys, and wonderful characters kept me turning the pages of this wonderful story. The Truth About Cowboys is a different read from Lisa Renee Jones’ normal suspenseful romance, but it did not disappoint! I enjoyed every single page from the first to the last! Highly recommend!
Jessica is a riot, I’m sure she wouldn’t think so but reading this story you can’t help but laugh the things she get herself into. I know it’s about two people who have been hurt but they keep trying and that is always a good story. Jason is a ball player who gave up his chance at the big leagues to run the ranch his grandmother lives at but the ranch is losing money so when he finds his grandmother has rented his office cottage to a city girl he has a fit. Jessica is running from a bad relationship and her firm told her to take some time off when she called her client a few names.
Jessica vows no men and she is just gonna right a book about divorce but Jason is messing with her head and Jason has had a bad experience with a city girl so he doesn’t trust her especially with his grandmother. The book is a fun read and it’s got some romance but Jessica finding herself in a mess is the best.

Jessica is a hot-shot divorce lawyer from Dallas. She has left the city to find peace and quiet to decide what she wants to do with her life. She has rented this cute cottage in the middle of nowhere. The only problem is that it is already taken. Jason Jenks is an ex-pro baseball players. He is home trying to save the ranch. From the very beginning, they are setting off sparks. Added to that, Jessica is a klutz and Jason is constantly saving her. The character that steals the book is Martha/Grandma. She is a hoot. Loyal to her grandson, a great sense of humor and a fantastic baker. She also thinks she’s found the perfect person for her grandson. Until the past is dealt with, neither can move forward.
I loved this one. You get the sexy, the sweet. You get the laughs and you get your heartstrings pulled just a little. You will love this one. I mean how can you go wrong with a sexy cowboy and a meddling grandma. All I gotta say is Martha is a hoot. Jessica is sweet with a strong head on her shoulders. She is clumsy and somewhat a magnet for disaster. Jason is gruff and puts family and his ranch first. I love Jason even when he runs hot and cold with Jessica. It’s his relationship with his grandma Martha that seals the deal for me. It is just so sweet. The chemistry between Jessica and Jason is so hot. You will love and may get a little annoyed at times with how much effort they fight things between each other. But trust me it is worth it. This book is fantastic and I couldn’t get enough. I’m looking forward to another visit to Sweetwater.
I absolutely loved this story about two individuals that have had losses, and been deeply hurt. Jason is a former famous baseball player that has been burned by a city gal, left the game he loved , lost his parents in an airplane accident, loves his grandmother whom he wants to keep happy and is dealing with a ranch that is barely surviving. Jessica escapes the city after being betrayed by her fiancee and is given leave from her job as a divorce lawyer when she speaks her mind to the wealthiest client of the firm. She rents a cabin in a little town in Texas, hoping to write a book about divorce, and looking for some peace in her life.
From the moment these two meet , sparks fly as well as distrust .
It’s an engaging, heartbreaking, at times funny as well as heartwarming story about family. About once again trusting your heart, finding oneself , forgiveness and of course romance.
You will fall in love with the main characters, as well as the secondary ones, especially Jason’s grandmother. Though I have to confess that at times you’ll want to shake Jason with all his insecurities.
Can’t wait for book 2 in the series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Entangled.
The truth is I want this cowboy! 5 stars
This is book is so good! I laughed, I cried & I loved all the characters! Jason, the cowboy, & Jessica, the city girl, have a chemistry from the beginning, & they have a hate to lust to love relationship. The push/pull between them almost became too much for me at a certain point, but that just means I cared so much about these two characters & their relationship. I felt for both of them so much, but Jessica really struck a chord with me. I loved all the secondary characters as well! This book was well written, beautifully flows, engaging storyline, in depth characters & a happy ending that made me smile. I definitely recommend this book!
I received a copy of this ebook from the publisher/author/Netgalley for my honest review.
This book by Lisa Renee Jones is something different from her normal genre. It was refreshing and was a nice change up! This light hearted story about a love gone wrong and two people meeting and not knowing but they are perfect for each other! This book was so easy to read and a page turner!
This was a hard push and pull romance with a couple that often straddled the line between love and hate.
While Jessica is working on writing a divorce guide, her drunk friends talk her into writing a romance. Soon she’s doing both and each books shadows her emotions towards the jerky cowboy that is stealing her heart. From the highs to lows, her writing is a reflection of what she is experiencing with Jason. Unfortunately, it looks like she might have to dig further into fiction in order for the romance to have a happy ever after.
Jason was burned by a city girl and with the death of his parents and the condition of the ranch, his plate is full. He gave up pitching in order to take care of business and ensure his grandmother’s future. While he loves the ranch as well as his grandmother, his passion is baseball until he meets Jessica. Now he’s tormented with wanting it all and unable to make his complete dream come true.
I enjoyed these characters. Jessica was smart but a bit clumsy which led to some fun moments. Jason was damaged and carried the world on his shoulders but was too afraid to make the changes that would bring him peace. They were each wounded by life and afraid to yield to what was growing between them.
There is a lot of back and forth between Jessica and Jason which created a wealth of angst. With every decision Jessica made, Jason seemed to take it the wrong way. Even while they battled it out, the chemistry between them sizzled keeping this couple in a constant state of want and desire that pushed against what their minds told them.
This has a great pace to it, never bogging down. There is plenty of humor, lots of steam, and some amazing secondary characters I can’t wait to see more of. Overall, this was a great read for anyone who enjoys the push and pull of which this couple excels!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and Entangled Publishing. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This one is different from others in this author’s recent releases but WOW was this one GREAT! Jessica is on the run. From her life, her career, her fiancee, and basically life but getting stuck in the mud on the way to her new lease and rescued by a cowboy is the best way to start this story. Add in the fact the cowboy is really an ex-pro pitcher and now rancher and she is staying in his cottage…err…office, rented to her by his grandmother, and this story just leaps off the page. I could not turn the pages fast enough. I highly recommend this one for a fun and sexy read!
This is a whole new sexy story! Get read for cowboy lovin’! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
This new series from Lisa Renee Jones is exactly what you always get from her, but with new fierce characters and a new world. I have fallen comes in love with this story! Jason and Jessica have off the charts chemistry… think Chris and Sara Level Heat!
5 Hot Texas Heat Stars!
Once again, Lisa Renee Jones slays it. Most books by this author are suspense, this, however, was not and it was a nice change. One she did smoothly. She gave us a city girl recently single and a hot as hell cowboy.
Jessica a divorce attorney leaves Dallas behind after finding her man in bed with another woman. She rents a place out the country to start writing a book on all things divorce when on the way to her new place she hit a snag and a cowboy in a pickup truck that passes by is so nice to lend a hand. The two instantly have chemistry and to make things even better. He is her new landlord.
The cowboy’s name is Jason, and he’s had a rough time when it comes to love, after being burnt painfully by his past, it makes him wary and he struggles to trust, especially city girls.
Jason’s grandma is a matchmaker, and fast becomes close friends with Jessica, and of course, matches them up and because of the chemistry between the two that is already there, it doesn’t take much. But there are secrets he holds and hangups which he struggles to overcome. While these two grow with each other and discover each other as the story progresses, they also struggle. Jason struggles to let go of his past which would ultimately stop Jessica from being his future. Will he be able to overcome these things? Or will the wedge between the two remain and stop them both from getting a happily ever after that they both deserve.
I loved this book. It was fun, hot, intense, full of drama and angst. with that oh-so-good push and pull between the characters. I loved the grandma, and I loved the friendship Jessica had with her too.
The authors’ style of writing is amazing, it’s always sucked me in and this book was no different. I devoured this book with ease!
Loved every minute of it!
This was a 5 star read for me.
One hot-headed cowboy, former pro baseball player, and freshly scorned lover meets no filter, balls-to-the walls divorce attorney, turned newly book author, and freshly scorned lover in the countryside of Texas. I think it’s safe to say that sparks fly in The Truth About Cowboys.
I’m not one who loves a constant push/pull romance but there are exceptions I find that I tend to really enjoy. Jason and Jessica are one of those exceptions. It has a lot to do with the fact that I just really liked their characters and that push/pull they were constantly battling brought a lot of heat as a couple.
This had a great background setting on a farm in the Texas countryside with a feisty grandma, quite a few sexy cowboys, and a naked cat. This was a fun and entertaining read that I highly recommend!
Another awesome book by Lisa Renee Jones.
A hard headed ball player and a hard headed city girl go head to head in a battle of wills! Both have been hurt by someone else!
Will these two hard headed people be able to find love in each other or will their stubbornness have them going the other way?
Once bitten, twice shy..the consistent, witty banter between these two, along with the greatest grandma ever, kept me reading this LOL, never gonna do that again, hawt romance. Loved it!!
