A steamy, standalone, enemies to lovers romance. OliviaBeing hired by Barrett London should have been a dream. Nice job in the city, amazing boss…but then I met Luke. Cocky. Self-assured. Sexy. And the most frustrating man I’ve ever laid eyes on.When we’re forced to work together, sparks fly. But is the attraction enough to risk losing everything? Or should this truce be in name only?LukeThe … truce be in name only?
Luke
The moment Olivia walked through the door, I wanted her. That is, until she opened her mouth and ruined it with her ‘I can do it better’ attitude. When we’re coerced into working together, I start to see Olivia in a different light. She’s smart, vibrant, and gorgeous. Is that enough to let go of the past or will my demons turn our truce into a lie?

What a debut by Becca Steele! This could be considered a short read but trust me when I tell you there is no short of emotion, excitement and hot men!
In the Truce we follow the journey of Luke and Olivia, coworkers who can’t stand the sight of each other and everyone in the office feels it. I would love to be a fly on the wall and just watch them bicker back and forth. Actually no, I’d be sitting at a desk with my hands under my chin watching them go at it but really staring at the boss Ethan…but we’ll get to him later 😉
There is only so much sexual tension two people can take before it just explodes like a bomb and this does not disappoint. Once our main characters realize they have feelings that are opposite of hate, we get to see a completely different side of them as we realize maybe they never actually hated each other at all? Didn’t your mama ever tell you that when boys are mean to you they like you? Yeah mine didn’t actually either.
Will Luke let the demons from his past ruin his chance at a happy ever after with Liv?
From the start to the end we watch the characters evolve which Steele has done beautifully. She really has a way with words. It’s the little things you pick up on that make you go OOooooOOOO! You really get to know all of the smaller characters and hopefully there will get a book of their own one day because I NEED MORE! *cough cough here’s lookin’ at you Becca Steele*
** spoiler alert ** I wanted to crawl into this book and drink at a pub in London and meet the Characters of The Truce
Becca made you imagine the scenes clearly in your mind, along with the commeraderie of this group of friends.
The emotion or lack of it that Luke and Olivia displayed to each other at the beginning had me wondering “ when and how is this going to change”.
Well change it did.
The growing friendship forced upon them from their boss and Luke’s great friend Ethan as “ a Truce “
This set up what was to come.
I love a 2 person version of events in a novel, I love how Becca showed us thoughts and feelings of both main characters.
Luke frustrated me from the 1st chapter, I couldn’t understand his resentment , but as the book went
On, we were taken inside his thoughts coming to understand why, but I was still thinking him being
a douche. His love for Martha showing us under that cool British demeanour was a man wanting to be loved but to scared to try.
Thank god for the intervention from his two good friends. Grown men playing PlayStation
I fell in like with the other characters in the story and how everyone interconnected and bought their own story into this one. I say like as the in love will come with their own stories. I certainly look forward to reading about them and what’s to come , especially the brooding Jake Savage.
I thought to myself, Here’s a man who makes me want to hear his story now.
Thank you Becca for Olivia and Luke’s story, I felt like I was there at times, being the voyeur watching it unfold , drinks in the pub, coffee in the office, laying on the grass watching hot men with no shirts throw a ball around. All they needed was a puppy and they were ultimate chick magnets.
I hurt when Luke hurt and I quietly seethed towards him when Emma was upset.
I especially loved the gift at the end of the book that Luke gives Olivia , it to me was Luke’s way of saying
Yep I’m ready Leap of faith taken, what had made him run , had run him straight back to where he had run from. No Payne no gain
Congratulations on your first book of I’m sure, many more to follow. Bring on Alex Ethan Avery and the Savage boys.
I just wanted to keep on reading.Thank you Becca
I loved it, hot sex, hate to love good friends great settings and Luke and his Doucheness at the beginning I secretly loved .
This is the debut novel for author Becca Steele and let me tell you that what a great way to start!!! This book is well written, the characters are amazing and the interactions between the friends(Avery, Ethan, Alex, Olivia and Luke) are so entertaining that you will love them instantly. An enemy to lovers story were the main characters are Olivia and Luke, 2 people that “hated”each other guts. The bickering between them was hilarious and I had to read some scenes twice because they were that good and made me laugh so hard. They created this tension in the office that they were force to make a truce to try to work together for the benefit their company. Thats when they started to really know each other besides their work environment and then sparks started to fly between them. Like a quote in the book says:’there is a thin line between Love and Hate”. Luke doesn’t want a relationship but Olivia does, so they form their on truce where they became friends with benefits, and let me tell you those sexy steamy scenes are. So now here is the question , Would love conquer all?? You have to read this book and find the answer to that.
Luke is my boyfriend. Dedication, says so I am that Claudia.
Luke & Liv
Becca Steele gives you a fun sexy read with The Truce.
As soon as I saw it was enemies to lovers I was sold.
Our Hero and Heroine hate each other but we all know underneath all that hate they want to tear each other’s clothes off. wink. wink
The story will make you laugh, want to rip Luke’s hair out and cry. My favorite thing about enemies to lovers is that moment when the characters just go aha and they realize they do have a strong feeling for each other but its not hateful.
It’s also filled with a lot of hot scenes and Luke’s filthy mouth. ( God that filthy mouth)
An amazing debut.
I can’t wait for more!
To be honest, when I first picked up this book, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But I was blown away with the first paragraph! I’m a lover of words and descriptions, and I love a book that sucks me in. Becca had it all! She continued to surprise me as I got to learn more about Luke and Olivia. Luke isn’t one of those fairytale book boyfriends, he’s gritty, he’s broken, he’s real! Absolutely fantastic debut, a fantastic read and can’t wait to read more from Becca Steele.
SO GOOD!!! This felt like a novel by a seasoned author, not a debut. The characters were complex and likeable, the tension palpable, the chemistry scorching, the banter on point. It’s an enemies to lovers office romance that keeps the pages turning and it’s easy to get lost in the story.
The Truce follows Luke and Olivia, coworkers who got off to the wrong start and now seem to spar every time they interact. Things come to a head when they run into each other outside of work and their personal lives enter the mix. When their feuding starts to interfere with their jobs, they come to a truce and it becomes easy to see the sparks of tension were actually hiding a real romantic connection. Unfortunately, Luke doesn’t have the best history so he’s hesitant to take things further.
I was rooting for this couple from the very beginning, and the story hooked me right away. While the feuding is great, the aftermath is also fantastic. We get a real sense of their relationship, growth to the characters, and it’s not all smooth sailing once the games end, but the connection is definitely worth the struggle. My only real complaint about the book is that I wanted more of the good times. A little more of the flirty period after the tension is over, and definitely fewer dark times after the inevitable argument. These two run through every emotion imaginable, and it makes the story feel more authentic, the ratios were just slightly off for me. I enjoyed the book from start to finish and will certainly pick up the author’s next one. We’re introduced to some intriguing guys in the story that I think would make great heroes in their own books.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
An honest enemy to lover romance. I liked both female and male protagonists. I leaned more toward Luke. He’s a sexy beast. His remarks did seem cruel but in a sexy way, like he was fighting his feelings, not in a way that would make a reader hate him. The female protagonist is a good match for the male protagonist. I liked that she is strong and didn’t cry a lot.
I’m looking forward to the next book in the series, and I hope I don’t forget. There are so many books floating around that it is hard to keep up with all of them.
A great book by a new-to-me author. I really went through this one really fast!
Olivia and her colleague Luke are office-enemies. Actually with good reason I must say 🙂 Had a new colleague done what she did her first day I would have disliked her as well. But… okay… Luke and Olivia could have made up but do not, even though his best friend Ethan (also their boss) is with her best friend Avery. When Ethan is a bit fed up with their behavior, he orders them to work together and after that they find they have amazing chemistry… But Luke has a trauma from his childhood and doesn’t think he can commit. So they try the ‘friends-with-benefits’-thing until it explodes in their faces.
What did I like? Well, the writing was very good and engaging. I liked Olivia, Luke and all the secondary characters like their office mates and Luke’s friends (I think they might get their own books haha). The story made me care for them and I could not wait to pick up my Kindle after every break.
The only reason I deducted a star was because I thought Luke a bit whiney. I do understand his pain and such, but I had expected something much worse to be honest. Olivia forgave him way too easily in my opinion.
But hey, I loved the tears and the drama and can’t wait for the next to arrive! (2019)
This was a really sweet, slow burn, enemies to lovers read. I wish that Liv kicked Luke in the shin for the stunt he pulled but I get were he was coming from.
This book has everything that I love in a book. Enemies to lovers with some tension. Caveman moments are high in this but it also has heart in it. Olivia and Luke have been at odds at each other ever since she took over a job he was doing. They fight and bicker at each other until their boss/friend steps in and makes them work together. This is when things get good. They have to overcome their differences and realize that they truly care about each other. That there’s real feelings between them. Things are good until thoughts in Luke’s head get the best of him. He didn’t have the best childhood that shut down his ability to love. It takes his friends talking sense in him to finally get things back on track. I loved how despite Olivia was hurting and her heart was broken, she never gave up on Luke. They couldn’t stop the attraction between them. This book has fire, sass and whole lot of love in it. It was a great book with characters I definitely want to read more about!!
I am amazed that this is a debut from this author! Olivia and Luke are complex characters, who are co-workers, and have explosive chemistry between them. This is a well written story which is intense, emotional, passionate and steamy. I look forward to reading more from this author, and recommend this for all enemies / lovers scenarios’.
I really enjoyed The truce by Becca Steele it was just one of those stories that drew me in and but it first got my attention after reading the blurb . I need this story in my kindle stat and when it landed in my kindle lets just say I may or may not of let a little yay out but the only one that would know that would be my dog who gave me judgy eyes . I loved the dynamic between Olivia and Luke the banter between them was fueled by sexual tension plus had me let a little giggle out (again dog judgy eyes) . Along with loving the couple they did frustrate the dickens out of me with how they would go about things more so how the hero handle things the way he did . But over all this was a great story that I can’t wait to see more of looking forward to read what’s to come from Becca .
How I adore a well-written enemies to lovers trope! In Becca Steele’s debut you novel The Truce, she gives us the story of known workplace adversaries Luke and Olivia. Not only do Luke and Olivia work together, but their best friends are married to each other. So it seems no matter where they turn there the other is. The already boiling attraction between the two starts to spill over when Luke and Olivia’s boss demands a truce between them.
I instantly fell for the banter between Luke and Olivia. Becca did a fantastic job with witty humor between the two. Would I have loved to see the enemies part of the trope pushed maybe just a little longer with possibly a good hate shag to get things started? Sure! But that’s just a personal preference that I have.
During the conflict, Luke’s issues get in the way of what he and Olivia have, and Olivia started to grate on my nerves. She comes across a bit like a needy teenager at times. The friend seems to be in the middle of the conflict more than he probably had to, running between the two, again as teenagers would do.
I enjoyed Becca’s debut novel as a whole and overall she did a great a job. I am excited to see what she has up next for us in this series.
WOWZA, what a fabulous debut from Becca Steele!!
My favorite storyline right now, an enemies to lover’s romance. This was such a great story, full of so much back and forth banter, and holy cow, their chemistry was off the charts hot. The story of Olivia and Luke, work colleagues that in the beginning that can hardly be in the same room, unfortunately for Olivia, she had terrible first impression on Luke that he just couldn’t shake it.
Their story flowed so well, and the sex scenes, you will want a cool glass of white wine on hand to cool yourself off. Becca did a wonderful job making these characters come to life, you might even shed a tear or two. Luke may even be one of my #1 book boyfriends this year.
One of my favorites for 2019, don’t pass this jewel up.
Oh how this book made my heart hurt! The angst is palpable and had me twisted up like grandma’s yard. I was all over the place with every emotion. I cheered for Olivia, I cried, I got angry at Luke, I got angry at both of them. This book was filled with emotion.
In the beginning, I hated Luke. He was unnecessarily mean to Olivia and wouldn’t even call her by her first name. Once I learned of Luke’s traumatic past and upbringing, it all began to make sense. You can never hurt someone if you never let them get close enough. The problem was Olivia had already fallen in love with him and he couldn’t bear the thought of breaking her heart further down the road so he ended things between them. It devastated Olivia and gutted Luke.
Olivia is truly giving of herself and Luke finds comfort in her during a very difficult time. As a result of this, they become closer. Close enough to begin to develop real feelings, feelings that scare Luke – which makes Luke push Olivia away and in the process break her heart. Even though he can’t bear the thought of breaking her heart later down the road in their relationship.
They have very supportive friends who help them see what’s going on and what they should do to make things right. However, Luke is stubborn and determined to lock down his feelings for Olivia. Could this brooding man leave the past behind to grasp at what could be an amazing future?
Special thanks to the author for this advanced readers copy.
