L.A. Cotton has written a story that is EPIC !! Bloody brilliant !! I dont know how she does it.. the detail was outstanding, i know nothing about soccer but I found myself engrossed as the team entered the field and found myself as excited as Flick as the atmosphere charged as LA built up the intensity.
The characters… well they’re a whole other level.. with an exterior that takes no sh*t Hailee is our H with an attitude, I loved her! We see the softer side too where under it all she just cant understand why her stepbrother hates her so much and see her nearly fall apart.. the angst is a complete rollercoaster as these two face each other off.
Cameron… yup he’s the atypical bad boy, football jock.. but you just love him, because underneath his tough outer layer and meanness you come to understand his reasons… and boy do they give you ALL the feels.
In summary this story is off the scale !! I LOVED it and The Raiders are me new favourite team!
The Trouble With You is the beginning of a new series (Rixon Raiders) by LA Cotton. Football was everything and football players are like gods in Rixon, Pennsylvania. Hailee Raine and Jason Ford are stepsiblings who hate each other. Jason is Rixon High School’s Star Quarterback and he and his teammates get away with so many things. Hailee hates football and all the privileges the players get.
Hailee’s a very likable character. She was raised by her mother and she’s never known her father. Hailee’s mother and Jason’s father have been together since they were 12 years old but they just recently married. She loves art and is a very talented artist. She also knows that Jason made it clear to everyone that she is off limits and no guy will come near her. He didn’t do it to protect her but to torture her. Hailee’s strong and she has fought back against Jason and hasn’t allowed him to break her.
Jason is a hateful character who is entitled and he’s very dark and cruel. He rules the school and the town with his two best friends Cameron and Asher. His father was a star football player and was on his way to the NFL when he got an injury his senior year.
Cameron Chase has moments where he’s a great guy and moments where he’s pretty bad. When Hailee first met him she thought he was a good guy but then she was shown many times how callous he could be. The football players are all players of course but he only hooks up with one person sometimes who completely understands the rules. There are so many things going on at home and with his family and there are times where he feels like he’s drowning.
Definitely a great series to read and enjoy.
L.A Cotton Is Fast Becoming One Of The Queens Of Teen Angst!!
Step Siblings Hailee & Jason are complete opposites. She’s quiet, into Art & happy to be anonymous. Jason is a jock, loud, entitled and at the centre of the entire town’s attention – not just their Schools!! They can’t stand one another. He’s played spiteful pranks, meant to shame & emotionally hurt her, since their Parents started dating, when they were just 12!! Hailee is made of tough stuff though & refuses to take any of it lying down, so she gives as good as she gets!
Starting Senior year seems monumental & her BFF, Flick, wants to make some changes to the way they’ve gone through High School so far. She has a senior year bucket list It includes attending a Pep Rally, A Game, A Party etc all perfectly normal things, but not when you’ve blacklisted by Jason the QB1 & his Raiders Team Mates including his 2 BFF’s Cameron & Ash!!
What no one really realises is how messed up Cameron has become. He has some big issues at home & no one knows the full extent of them! but he can see Jase is going over the edge in his prank war & hatred for Hailee & keeps trying to step in, subtlety, to mitigate the looming disaster. What he doesn’t expect is to see the lust he secretly feels for her, mirrored back at him in her eyes!!
They’re all going to Hell & the Rixon Raiders QB1, Jase, seems hell bent on dragging them all there with him, one prank or excessive team rivalry stunt or another!!
Can Cam grow a backbone in time? Can Cam & Hailee overcome the years of bullying to see what’s right in front of them? Will Jase back off of the Team rivalry with East, to protect the Step Sister he despises? Can Flick & Ash pull them all together to some kind of harmony? Or are they all destined to burn in the flames of Jase’s rage??
This is a push & pull romance that’ll have you wanting to throw your Kindle at the wall. Priorities People PLEASE!! It’s drama & angst filled from the get go & ends on a steamy scene we know is coming but …. don’t really want to happen! I’m kind of dreading, but with a sick sense of anticipation, book #2 – I’m ashamed to say!
These characters are 100% addictive. I have a soft squishy place in my heart for Ash I loved this High School with it’s High Drama

This is a signature L.A. Cotton book with an emphasis on football. There’s tons of angsty drama with characters that you love to hate but will never forget (even after you put the book down). Hailee had my heart from the beginning of this story. She was a broken and hardened senior who has had to live with her stepbrother Jason’s cruelty for years. It’s like a constant prank war that never ends. Cameron was not my favorite hero from the start, but I let that go because I knew he would redeem himself. He most definitely did, especially with his revelation during the conversation with Jason. I really enjoyed this story and ended up reading it all in one day. If there was one thing that I would love to know more about though, it would have to be what Cameron said to Miley. I know, insignificant, but I would loved to have been a fly for that very brief conversation. I’m really looking forward to the next book. Especially after that little glimpse we got at the end! Great start to a new series!!! *I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.*
