4.5 Star Review of The Trouble With You (Rixon Raiders #1) by L A Cotton
Audio Review:
I don’t normally read YA/NA or bully stories but as LA Cotton os a new author to me I found myself volunteering to listen to this audio book. Having listened to other books by Sarah Puckett and Wen Ross I went into this with an open mind.
Hailee Raine dislikes Cameron Chase with an intensity that most would find overwhelming. All she has to do is survive one more year before she can escape her home town, her step brother Jason and his football playing mates.
Cameron plays for the Rixon Raiders and has colleges lining up to sign him. His best friend Jason is not a nice person, particularly to his step sister Hailee and of course being a best friend Cam is often just as much of a jerk to Hailee too.
I really loved Hailee, she seemed to be the only person who didn’t bow down to the football players in the town. Not only that, but she was brave, fierce and not afraid to stand her ground. She also showed her vulnerability and confusion as she struggled to understand why Jason hated her so much.
An emotional roller coaster of a listen that at times made me angry. I have to say I was so happy that Cameron came through for Hailee in the end.
The narration was great and absolutely enhanced my listening pleasure. #AudiobookObsessionReviewer
This story held my attention from beginning to end! Who knew high school boys could be so cruel yet so tempting! My heart broke for Hailee and the constant suffering she was put through at the hands of her step brother Jason and his friends. Then the sibling rivalry turned darker when a rival school took it upon themselves to shame her further. I wasn’t sure that she’d ever recover from the horrific situation she’d been put in at a party. That was a great turning point in the book and proved just who could be trusted and who needed to watch their backs.
Cameron, the brother’s best friend and team mate was in on all the harassment but deep down knew he was doing it for all the wrong reasons. Hailee has captured his attention when they were young kids and he’d never managed to look away, despite the bro code his friends had invoked.
I loved the push and pull between the main characters! It kept the read interesting. The chemistry because numerous characters was simmering and helped move the story along in a tantalizing way.
This is not the first book I’ve read by this author so knew what to expect when I cracked the binding.
Like going back in time this new adult romance brought back all the angst and ugliness of high school and then changed it into something good.
This story was well written and has fantastic world building. I did find myself skimming a few times because I had to know what happened before I could go back to adulting.
I am looking forward to reading more this this series.
The Trouble With You, is a new series by this amazing author! She knows how to write YA/NA that hooks you in and won’t let you go!
The Trouble With You is a enemies to lovers romance, it’s filled with angsty young love.
“I know it doesn’t make any sense, Hailee, but I didn’t choose him, I chose you.”
Jason being quiet has Hailee wondering, she’d tried ignoring him but that failed so now she fights back, no one went against him, but she was going to fight back, even with something feeling different this year it was her only choice.
Hailee drives him crazy, she may hate him, but her body doesn’t. Things have changed and she’s put herself in the middle of a war and he knows he can’t stay away from her anymore.
With Cameron’s persistence and her friend making sure they are going to events Hailee realises she’s fighting a losing battle against Cameron, but he’s her brother’s best friend, a Raider, their worlds do not mix, and he could ruin her.
Cameron has to clear things up with Hailee, about why how he was protecting her for years, but he wants her she thinks it can never work between them, but he’s a Raider and they never quit.
The Trouble with You is the first book in the Rixon Raiders series by LA Cotton. This bully novel was fast paced and drama filled. It was a slow burn romance will lots of angst that had you hooked from beginning to end. With lots of twists and turns, you won’t know what to expect and will be kept at the edge of your seat throughout the story.
Although this is Cameron and Hailee’s story, the other characters – Hailee’s BF Felicity and Cameron’s BF Jase and Asher play a prominent role in the story. These characters were well-developed and I loved the friendships and dynamics between them all.
I listened to the audible version of this novel which was narrated by Sarah Puckett and Wen Ross. Sarah is without a doubt one of my top narrators and I enjoy everything she narrates. This was my first time listening to Wen Ross and I absolutely loved his voice. Together these two were amazing and did a fabulous job bringing the story to life.
The Trouble with You was engrossing, addicting and extremely well-written. I loved it and would highly recommend it to all lovers of YA romance and enemies to lovers romance.

Awesome book! Ive always lived her books an this one has topped the charts again!! Live the beginning of the new series she always leaves us wanting more. Haliee and Jason have a troubled relationship. Its toxic. The sister/step-brother combo are at each other’s throats with pranks that are awful it hurts. When things come to light its life changing. I love the way I never saw the twist coming. It kept me on my toes. Its great to see how she added in the setup for her next book!! I cant wait. No cheating and a HEA. Enjoy!!
When I got the opportunity to read The Trouble with you, I jumped on it. L.A Cotton is a new author to me but the blurb caught me, and I needed to know more. Well I got what I wanted that’s for sure.
You have Hailee who is starting out her senior year and ofc this time she says nothing will bring her down and shell always keep her head up high. Well she does that, til ofc the whole feuding with her stepbrother and his friends. Hailiee starts falling for Cameron and lets just say the chemistry they have it out of here. Plus Cameron is a someone you can’t help but fall in love.
I can’t wait to know a bit more about Jason & Asher’s story! You will love this high school book!
Senior Hailee Raine is ready to escape her football obsessed small town as well as her tormentors step brother Jason, who just happens to be the star quarterback of the Varsity Team, and his best friends and teammates Cameron and Ash.
Cameron Chase is a god in his highschool and small town as the star running back. He has girls falling at his feet and is being recruited by colleges all across the country. He just needs to keep his eye on the prize and his best friends Jason and Ash from from doing something stupid that gets them benched.
When pranks go too far, however, loyalties will be torn. Cameron’s supposed to hate his best friend’s step sister, but suddenly, she’s dominating all of his thoughts. She’s off limits, but Cameron doesn’t care. And, maybe Hailee starts understanding just how fine the line between love and hate really is.
The Trouble With You was book one in L.A. Cotton’s Rixon Raiders series. I’ll be honest, it took me a bit to get into this one, because it felt a bit younger than her Wicked Bay series even though they are both set in highschool. These characters were so into pranking and bullying, that I had a hard time getting past that to see the relationship between Hailee and Cameron forming.
Once things started moving past the pranks, the depth of the characters began shining through. Both Hailee and Cameron had things happening in their personal lives that bring them closer together and have them relying on one another more than they imagined they ever would.
I really enjoyed watching Cam finally give in to his needs and wants rather than folding under the peer pressure of being a Rixon Raider. Hailey was also incredibly forgiving and much more adult than I ever could have been in her situation.
As the book progresses, we also start learning more about Jason and Ash as well as Hailee’s best friend Felicity. I can’t wait to see what is up for them now that Cam and Hailee have found their way into a relationship.
4 Stars for the bully romance.

The Trouble With You
Rixon Raiders, Book 1
By: L A Cotton
Narrated by: Sarah Puckett, Wen Ross
Wow, this an amazing book, it is well written and well told. It captivated my mind from start to end. L.A. Cotton takes you on an angsty emotional rollercoaster ride. She created interesting storylines that are realistic and relatable. Her characters are complex and well developed, she captured the struggles and challenges young adults face in and out of High School. She nailed teenage angst, the peer pressure, the rivalry in HS sports on and off the field, the favoritism/popularity, peer pressure, bullying as well as young love. Hailee Raine is one of my favorite characters, I admired her strength and determination, she did not let anything her step-brother, Jason, threw her way, and it sure was a lot. I disliked his attitude and behavior, even after finding what his issues and inner demons were they did not justify how he treated Hailee. I was glad she gave as good as she got and did not let it break her. Jason friend Cameron Chase and fellow teammate was fairly decent to Hailee, until he wasn’t. He had his reasons and for the most part he did the right thing by her. I was so glad he finally came to his senses and stopped fighting the inevitable. I really liked Cam, thought he was the most mature guy on his team. I really liked Hailee’s best friend Flick (Felicia) too. I am curious who’s story will be next in this series. I highly recommend this book, it is emotionally charged and there is never a dull moment, plenty of drama, angst and twists, all great components to an enemies to lover romance. LA Cotton thank you for this great story!
I listened to the Audible edition, both Sarah Puckett and Wen Ross are fabulous narrators and voice performers. They did a wonderful job bringing these characters to life, giving each their own voice and personality as well as heart and attitude. You could hear the characters emotions projected in their performance. They set the perfect tone for the story, each handled the back and forth banter with ease. Each are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another amazing listen

The Trouble With You is the first book in this brand new series and my first ever read from this new to me author. It can be read as a standalone and it’s an NA, contemporary romance, with small town, enemies to lovers, and brother’s best friend element in the story. Whew! That was a lot and it sure covers everyone who loves the mentioned tropes that makes this a remarkable read.
It follows the story of Hailee, a senior who just wants to finish the year so she can move out of the town where its people worshipped their local football team, The Raiders Rixon. To add to that, she wanted to stay away as far as she can from her step brother, Jason, whom she had a long standing war since their childhood. Jason hates her and her mother and even roped his best friends Cameron and Asher to torment her. The pranks continues until the pressure became too much and too far.
I liked Hailee’s character. She is not a push over. She didn’t for one second let the pranks his step brother Jason and his friends slide. She met those head on and one up them as much as she can. She is fierce, sassy and loyal to her best friend, Flick. Cameron is not what he seems to be. His persona as the jerk, the guy who sleeps around and party a lot is a far cry from the sensitive, responsible and loving son to his family. He is deeply loyal to his friends too, even to the extent of choosing Jason over his feelings for Hailee.
I thought at first that this will be a love triangle between Jason, Hailee and Cameron. But as I read along, I was thinking maybe it was Asher, Hailee and Cameron because there was some attraction on Asher’s side. Even I suspect some on Jason and the reason why I was thinking halfway to the book that it might go that way but there were some little clues that it might not be. It was such a conundrum but I enjoyed it because it kept me reading until I’m finally sure what the deal was.
I was angry at Cameron at the start because he let Jason dictates them when it comes to pulling stunts at Hailee even when he obviously likes her. But I started to get it because he was a friend first, more like a brother, to Jason before anything else. I was happy that he found the courage to get the love of his life and balance his personal life with his football career.
The Trouble With You is chock full of angst, drama, loyalty, brotherhood and young love. The story has me riveted to my seat and glued to my e-reader until I finish it, as I wait for the secret and drama to unfold. I am sure to read the second book because that ending was shocking (well not too much, more like a long time coming) and I’m curious how it’s going to play out with seemingly three people involved.
Hailee’s counting the days til she’s outta here. She cannot wait to go to college to escape her bully stepbrother and his evil minions, especially Cameron. Cameron was the one guy she had thought was different, who she had thought would be her friend, rather than her tormentor. Unfortunately, he proved himself to be just like Jason, her stepbrother.
But something changes and suddenly her bully just might be the guy she falls for.
I’ve been lucky lately in that the Young Adult/New Adult fiction I’ve read has all been really good. The Trouble with You is just that – really good. Hailee is a kickass heroine with a strong backbone and a feisty mouth. She gives as good as she gets. I wanted to hate Cameron, but he got me pretty early on, once I realized he was more than just Hailee’s tormentor.
If you like your YA/NA fiction with angst but not so much it’s overwhelming, chemistry in spades, and complicated, interweaving friendships and rivalries, then I highly recommend you download your own copy of The Trouble with You. It’s all that, plus it’s sexy and really well-written. I can’t wait for more Rixon Raiders!
Ohhhh the combination of the narration of Sarah Puckett and Wen Ross on this is just out of this world. I loved listening to both of them and could easily tell which characters I was listening to. They brought the story to life brilliantly, I was right there with them.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story with all its teen angst and growing pains. I loved watching the characters and how they interacted and how their relationships grew and changed over the book. But what a place to leave it!!! It’s a great start to a new series.
*Received an ARC for an honest review*
5 Stars hands down! L.A. Cotton has done it again! Her writing pulls me in every time.
I loved Hailee and Cameron’s story. All the push and pulls, the hate and love. This book has it all. The tension between these two was so thick and hot! It’s a must read if you enjoy “enemy to lovers”.
I can’t wait to see what is next in the Rixon Raider’s series!
Oh my lord, this book will have you in your feels. I loved Hailee and Cam’s story. This book is so much more than I thought it would be.
Hailee is a strong, beautiful girl about to turn 18. She has a love for art and HATE for football, especially Raiders. For the past six years she has been tormented and bullied by her step brother and his two best friends but they can’t break her, they won’t break her. She has walls built so high their antics will NEVER get in until Cam.
Cam was the one Hailee thought was different when she first moved to Rixon but he quickly proved her wrong. Now he’s the boy she can’t stop thinking about and the looks he’s dishing aren’t his usual.
Cam has his dreams at his finger tips. Senior year and then college ball with his best friend. He wasn’t suppose to feel the way he does, he wasn’t suppose to want the one girl whom has been off limits. When something threatens all his dreams of ever coming a reality he can’t ignore that she is the one person he finds himself needing.
“She kept me sane in the quiet moments, the moments where my thoughts turned dark and went to places I didn’t want to be.”
If you love young love, angst, bullying, pranks and HS alpha football drama this book is for you. This book will leave you breathless and wanting more, so much more. Jason story is next and it can’t come quick enough!
I loved this story. Cannot wait for the next book to come out!
It’s about self-discovery, difficulties, making mistakes and memories, family and sport of course.
Hailey only needed to survive the last year of highschool in her hometown, she would have been free to chase her dreams after that.
That is, if it wasn’t for her step-brother Jase. He cannot tolerate her, so he makes everything happen to ruin her.
Cameron is the Jase’s best friend, well at least appears to be. He is something like a buffer, because all those years he did everything to soften the pranks and Hailey’s bullying. Albeit secretly.
But don’t worry. She is a strong girl she have it handled. She got even for everything.
They fall in love, but they fight it all the way.
I recommend this book if you wanted to read something funny, witty and hot.
The Trouble with You is the first book I have read by L.A. Cotton! I have had many of her books on my radar for a while now but haven’t had a chance to dive in. Until this one… The Trouble with You is an awesome YA/NA crossover romance. The story takes place in high school but are all in their senior year and don’t come off as “young”. Some books you can tell the age in terms of the way they act and behave and see the immaturity but that’s not the case here. I enjoyed getting to know the characters. I liked how their relationships were super hateful in the beginning but then lead to more. I also liked The friendship between Flick and Hailee. Sometimes it felt like Hailee wore the pants in their friendship (for lack of a better term), but it’s clear how close two are and the fact that Flick could make Hailee do things she never would have dared before (like going to a party or a football game) was really cool to watch. They essentially brought each other out of their shells like all BFFs should!
That little twist at the ending didn’t come as a surprise to me, it was basically hinted at throughout the book. However, I know there will be some readers who won’t see it coming and I hope they really love the surprise! Don’t worry, this is a complete standalone novel but the ending sets the tone for book 2! I am really excited for it!
If you are in the mood for the following, this is the book for you:
Young Adult/New Adult Romance (I feel it’s more NA than YA)
An enemies to lovers romance that spans YEARS
A standalone BULLY romance (the heroine is bullied by her stepbrother and even the hero at some points during the story)
A sports/football romance
L. A. Cotton
If you love a drama filled, an enemy to lovers, sports romance story this is for you. Plenty of ups and downs in the book. Love and drama. You just had to love and hate Cameron all at the same time. Hailee is definitely a heroine that is set in her was and isn’t willing to bend to her step-brother and their football-crazed town.
The Trouble With You was everything I hoped for and so much more than I expected. Cotton blew me away with this slow burning, enemies-to-lovers story full of so much angst my stomach was in knots the entire time.
For Hailee, hating everything about highschool football came naturally. Growing up the the star QB, who is intent on making her life miserable, as a step-brother givers her every reason to hate him and all of his friends. And that includes his best friend Cameron.
Hailee and Cameron’s story had me on the edge of my seat, unable to put it down. I just had to know what would happen. I read this in one sitting and I am not even sorry about the loss of sleep. I loved every second of it and I can’t wait to see what comes next for the Rixon Raiders! I highly recommend you pick this one up!
There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about that book. Everything just was so right… Cam, Hailee, everything!!!!!!! Get this book. Grab it. Get sucked in and never come back out.
